I was looking at some of the book rarities and some of the rarity 96s were going for much less than the rarity 94-93s even 89s...I dont understand. Isnt it the higher the rarity the more expensive its meant to be?

It comes down to supply and demand - some of the rarity 93 may have only been out a short time while some rarity 96 have been around forever, so stocks have built up.
Also some mystery pic give books as prizes and that affects the supply too.
If all books were released today with none in circulation then a rarity 96 book would be harder to get hold of therefore more expensive than a rarity 89.

Think about omelettes. They're "MEGA RARE" ("rarity 106").

Rarities are also kind of confusing for me--what exactly do they stand for?

Rarities stand for how available that item is. Think of a one dollar bill and a 500 dollar bill. The one dollar bill is in circulation all over the place, you'd never cosider it rare. But there are fewer 500 dollar bills in circulation so they're more rare than a one dollar bill. Of course money almost never changes in value, as well as the fact that some rarities are incorrect (as it was stated, some omlettes are considered really rare, but omelettes are free and easy to get so their rarity isn't very acurate)

THat a very good explaining job you did, it just a shame that rarities don't reflect the item, lol.

Yup, it all comes down to supply and demand. A good battledom weapon, like the dark batttle duck, even though its been out for awhile still is very expencive for its rarity. A Usuki, TC, or something like that would sell for a alot less because there is not as much demand for them. On the other hand, a plushie that has been out for one week will sell for alot more than a 3 year old plushie, as there is less supply.
