Firstly, I'm hoping this is okay to post here. If not, please delete it and then I'll never mention is again.

The question that has been bothering me for a while is...

Am I allowed to talk about smoking in my guild? Like would I be allowed to say "I'm just poppin out for a cigarette" or is that against the rules?

I know the rules are there for a purpose and everything, and I know it's not an essential thing to say, I am just interested in whether I run the risk of being frozen...

I've never heard TNT say anything about not speaking on tabacco products. As far as I know, you're safe, but you could get frozen for blinking so how safe are you really anyway? ;)

I honestly dont know, I dont really see the need to say that anyway, just say "Im popping out for 5 minutes" I think that some people would likely take offensive at you talking about smoking or anything else similar.

I wouldn't say that. I'd just say I am stepping out for something and I'll be back. No need to say what you are going to do.

Twinkly, I wouldn't say that. If you have to type anything on the board just say you have to go, but will be back soon - something like that. *lights up at the computer desk* ;)

I wouldn't risk it. I don't think it is that imperative that you let your guild members know that you smoke cigarettes.

Hm. Yes your probably right. I mean, I was worried about it because I typed it the other day without thinking about it. Well I guess thats just another black mark against my username. Joining 'Held a contest' and 'Had a fake something has Happened'.

I'm in a 21+ guild, and we say that kind of stuff all the time... and as far as I know, no one's been warned. But TNT is a little more lax on what they allow in the guild chats, as opposed to neoboards. We've posted links (I've posted PPT.com more than once), and no one's gotten in trouble.

Johnny, that may or may not be true - I think? it may depend on the monitors on the site at any given time and where they're looking (remember - they don't just read the boards, they can read our neomail and guild messages). I got a warning for typing the word ebay on my guild board and all my messages wiped. ebay isn't on any list of forbidden words or topics. Smoking may just be a no-no, as in being an "adult" topic. And they don't need to know that, it could just start an argument or something, even if you're all good friends.

I have to agree with everconfused on this, smoking is a topic that alot of people feel strongly about, either for or against and a throw away comment can lead to an arguement where one or more people are frozen.

Plus I have to say that if we talk about smoking where do we draw the line? Is it ok to talk about drinking, drugs?

Well that's going a little far into the topic, but the way I see it is; if you're in a guild that's 18+, you should feel free to talk about smoking. Chances are it isn't going to start an argument, you live hundreds of miles away from each other, it isn't as if you're smoking in the same room. However if it isn't an 18+ guild, chances are you shouldn't say anything about it, as that's the grey area; underage smokers.

Ironically, the TaC say nothing about talking about drugs or smoking.

First of all, why would you need to post that? Just say "Just poppin' out, back in a few'!"

For example, would you say "Oh, I REAAALY need to pee. Hold on" or would you say "Ah, BRB."

I'm not really sure. Actually I do say I really need to pee quite a lot. I guess it's about being too honest about what you are doing offline.

Twinkly, that post just made me :roflol: ... no I wouldn't post that on any board - regular or guild, but I do say stuff like that to my friends if we're im'ing. Then again, those people know I'm really weird!

The most I'd post on say, my guild board if we have a conversation going, would be something like, be right back, need to get something to eat. Otherwise, I try to be sooooo super careful what I do and don't post on any of the boards anymore. Proper English at all times, and only Neo related, even to giving people places to go for html, css and backgrounds and I never, ever argue with anyone. If someone starts trying to goad me I just leave the board. It's just not worth it to end up reported, warned, frozen and arguing on the internet is, well ...

Yeah, I guess maybe I am paranoid.
