There are tons on Neopets copycats, but I haven't seen one get over even ten thousand users. I don't think Neo will have much competition when it comes to virtual pets.

actully.... *coughnutrinopetscough*

I think nutrinopets is pretty good...they just got to 100k useres, and had a contest to celibrate that. :)

the staff on the staff on there are exreamlly friendlly, as are the userers, heck, the moniters, artists, etc, post frequentlly in the general board!

they are still working on things..but recentlly, they changed there battle system, so it is no longer a boost system, meaning every point of speed, attack, and defence you earn, helps! :D

speed actully does somthing to...speed used to be your defence, and there was no defence...then they added defence, and made that defence, so now speed does somthing else, what, I don't know, as there still debugging the new arena script...although the arena is usable right not, leveling isn't working, and your damage dosn't show up right(it'll say you did some decimal number of damage, say 9.5, but the move may have just killed a 19 hp enemy. O_o) They don't have such a variaty of games...but you can actully make nc from batteling! :D

basiccly, it's a very good site! :D it is still being worked on, and they is always a news update or two every day, somtimes a lot more! (yes, even on the weekends it seems...as there was 3 or 4 updates this morning!)

you can sign up here: http://www.nutrinopets.com/signup.php?r ... _anime_fan

anyway, more on topic...lets face it, there are those few things, that every pet site will have, if they didn't, what kind of site would they be? Would you WANT to join a site with no arena, no auctions, no CHAT? com'on, give me a break! personlly, I don't compleatlly judge a petsite by what they have...but how the staff treats it's users, which is why i'm playing nutrinopets more and more, the staff there is actully friendly, and they seem to care about their users! I just don't get that feeling with neo...

No, they're not copy cats. I dont see you calling Neopets copy cats, after using the same ideas of different games in their flash games... So, why do you attack other petsites? Many games have avatar chats nowadays. Guilds are a must. Plots? Games cant do without them. Quests? They need them too. And battle stadium... That's a must-have too. And some of the things on the list... I dont even see those being in Neopets. I don't see a kingdom named Hygard. I don't see elemental lands. So...

This almost sounds like a pokemon-digimon comparison. Example? They both have monsters that battle for experience, that's it. Does that make them copycats? Absolutely not. They both have the base category but that doesn't automatically make them plagiarists.
It's the same way with Neopets and other virtual pet sites. The only way to consider them copycats if they deliberately copy Neopets. In which(with the exception of Veropets), they haven't done.

If any of you are signed up there... http://www.zetapets.com/explore.php?place=Islands Check out that area. I drew all the shopkeepers there for em. In all my time working for them I've never heard the words 'like neopets' or any other pet site.
Give it a break.. let us hear some orginal ideas YOU would use if making a pet site.

thank you, i was hopeing sombody would bring that up. :) On the surface, you could say a lot of things are alike...but once ya dig deeper, you find there are many diffrences. Everything in the same base catigory will have those few surface things in commen, but theres always many diffrences you can only see if you play the game, or watch the series. (kind of off topic, but I once wrote a paper comparing and contrasting pokemon and digimon...the teacher told us to do somthing we new a lot about! :P ) Anyway, the point is, you could say EVERY petsite is copying neopets, and some maybe are. But really, you could say the same thing vice-versa, or even that neopets is copying tomagatchi. It's really all quite silly.

You guys do realize that Draiks look like the common westernized dragon right? o_O

Oh yeah and Neopets made pacman into a lucky charm sponser game....lots of other ideas they used. I mean I don't think we shoudl really worry I doubt most of these sites will have more users than Neopets now anyways. (Virtupets has a lot...but its too late to get some odd million, but yeah Virtupets arn't all that bad)

Everyone copys a bit.

Does that mean that whoever created Snake, Breakout and stuff should sue neopets for using their ideas?

No!

Yano. If I had the drawing skills, and HTML skills, I would want to create a virtual pets site too. And because Neopets is so diverse and popular, I would snag some ideas and tweak them to my own liking. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. It's not like those sites were copying and pasting, with a few minor adjusments here and there, saying DON'T STEAL OUT STUFF!!!!!!11one!!1
So...
We as humans tend to look on others for guidance. No one out there is 100% original.. IMO, atleast.

Good question.. I worked for them too at one point. Most pet sites are short lived, i guess.

First of all,I'm gonna ask you to stop mocking her. Second of all, please stop being rude.

All virtual pet sites are pretty alike,Neopets is just on top of them,Pimboli.

im in too bad a mood to be worried right now.
first of all, i wasnt mocking her (well okay maybe a little, but not in my usual intentive manner)
secondly, i wasnt being rude, i was being pretty friendly considering.
thirdly, neopets copies mythology, draik? well thatl be a drake then huh.
flotsam/ jetsam (meaning random deterious born upon the ocean) eyrie (the home of a cliff dwelling bird, first used in refferance to the griffon)
mythology is copied from the random nutters who thought these things up (who thusly stole it from the random musings of a bunch of early/pre civilisation nutters) who thusly stole it from a bunch of cave paintings made by a bunch of neanderthals, and or homo erectus hominids, in an effort to impress and/or explain the universe.
ergo: neopets stole all their ideas from the early hominids.
oh and no one can sue over snake/ tetris/ whatever, because such early games werent patented indefinetly, IE: its free game on them now.

The old games, whether they were shareware or commercial, are only free if and when their creators release them into the freeware market. Most of them were all copyrighted (which is different than a patent, btw). Many of the leading early game producers choose to release the old games into the freeware market, but not all of them.

Looking to buy Snowbunny Stamp and Sticky Snowflake Stamp. If you're selling, please PM me!
