It's been years (literally) that I've had that same, darned Brain Tree trophy from DoN1. I know I can beat Commander Garoo easily but I still have not acquired him as a challenger! I've refreshed hundreds of times at the Virtupets Station but still no luck. Is he really THAT rare? Or am I just THAT unlucky? Is there a technique I can do instead of pressing F5, waiting for the screen to load to see if I got him, then pressing F5 again until I do see that I got him?

*Note: Not sure if this goes in this board or the BD board so I stuck it here since the question itself isn't so BD based.*

You've double checked your 1-player list? I always use CTRL+F to be on the safe side. I don't believe there is any secret to refreshing at the Space Station. Like many random things some people can refresh once, others can refresh for days on end and still come up empty handed. Unfortunately.

Curse that Commander Garoo.

Well, I can't even get the Lever of Doom avvie, so obviously I suck at refreshing and getting the good random events.

Commander Garoo was one I took AGES to get active. Keep trying and you'll eventually get it.

I think it took me about 3 or 4 hours of constant refreshing for a couple days to get him when he first came out.

I was actually wondering (and I'm sure this can be applied to most RE's), can I go to the Space Station and jab F5 (Refresh) like a madman, stopping only to check my 1Player List to see if he's there, and still get Commander Garoo (just that I won't see the notice)? Or do I actually have to see each and every page load in order to get him?

Yes, you can refresh for a few minutes without letting the page fully load, then check if you have Garoo yet. The Editorial where refreshing was discussed said that this is still okay. Don't keep the key down for more than a few minutes though.

Coolio! I guess it's back to good ol' refreshing, then. Oh joy...

I believe I got him visiting the Grundo Warehouse. I know that getting the Snow Beast seems easier at the Advent Calendar because hardly anyone visits there so REs appear to happen more when I refresh there. Maybe refreshing at a lower traffic space station page will help. Just a thought.

So anyplace in the Space Station will have a chance to get me Commander Garoo?

EDIT: Yay. I finally got Garoo and beat him easily. Huzzah! ^_^
