So... MUCH... REFRESHING...

Sat Dec 10, 2005 2:55 am

I've got like 6 tabs in FF with the virtupets spacestation, and am reloaidng them every few seconds, i've been doing this for like 20 minutes, when am i going to get garoo?

I feel your pain. Garoo took forever, as did the cave chia. Right now I'm still trying to get the snow beast, been trying to get him for at least 2 months now.

Open like 10-50 tabs in firefox with the page, then click reload all tabs, and have a tab with how many 1P challengers you have, and click until it goes up.
I finally got garoo.

From the most recent editorial:

- Using Opera to open 100+ pages and hitting "refresh all" – VERY frozen.

Not quite in the same league but the editorial makes it very clear that the only refreshing to be permitted is that which you do all by yourself without the browser helping out, ie hitting refresh yourself or using the f5 key very sparingly is allowed. Just a heads up ^^;

I knew, i was keeping that in mind, which is why i only did 10.

But ten refreshes at the same time looks like a program, which it is. It really is just better to refresh by hand in the one window. Better safe than sorry ^^

Yep, there's no way I'd ever do the open x number of tabs and refresh them all.

I'll just sit, refresh 5 to 10 times (max) at a time, wait a few hours, then go back and do a few refreshes again. I'm not risking my account for a BD challenger.

And if you think for one second that how many times you refresh isn't known, believe me it is. I know someone who was recently frozen for refreshing too many times in a short amount of time. And they're not getting their account back.

I understand why TNT doesn't want people using autorefreshers to gain tons of random events, but I think it's unreasonable for them to make so many events that require huge numbers of refreshes if they're going to disallow autorefreshing. Do they think we all have nothing better to do with our time than spend hours at a time sitting in front of the computer hitting the F5 key?

I wonder if they'd even be able to tell you were using a program if the autorefresher was set to refresh at random intervals? Not sure I'm willing to take the chance, though.

Luckily I eventually got Garoo but I'm not looking forward to Snow Beast if I ever get that far in DoN.

I'd be tempted to play a variant of the "cat" trick, by turning down the key repeat and then just holding down the f5 key constantly: maybe with my toes while watching TV (don't want to use my hands, then I can't knit.) Unfortunately they'd probably think I left something on the keyboard and freeze me, even though as far as I know refreshing with a toe is totally legal.

I just sit at my computer and hit f5 a couple of hundred times, for maybe a few minutes. I try not to do it at equal intervals, and I actually usually do it in time to whatever music is running through my head at the time.

I'm unsure whether or not this represents a real danger to my account.

I just stuck a coin in my F5 button and went to have my lunch. when i came back, i got him.

as for me I can't get the lost desert challenger, the mummy one but I keep trying I refresh the page about ten times an hr

Sylence, when was the last time you tried to get the mummy? A bunch of people were having trouble, so I talked to a programmer and got it fixed. You have to refresh on chapter six of the plot ONLY (no other page will work). It should take less than 10 minutes now (it did for the six people I talked to, at least).

I am not only in this refreshing game!

Anyways, I've been wanting the SNow Beast for the past year, yet it's like he doesn't exist. what gives. o_O *shakes angry hand at the programming*

Chakra, all I can say is you were very lucky. Doing that, or anything else to weigh down the F5 key is considered the same as using an auto-refresher - which IS against the rules. I suggest you not post that anywhere on the site (boards/guild). Keep a low profile and don't do that again. I say that with the best of intentions, really.

As I posted earlier, Neo does know how many times you've refreshed in any given time period. And I do know someone who was frozen for refreshing too many times in a short amount of time. They said they were using the F5 key manually, and they may well have been. But it was too many too fast. They did not and will not get their account back. That was posted on a board by a programmer.
