Misspelt vs. Misspelled[edit]

Both are valid: Misspelt @ reference.com, Misspelt @ wiktionary.org and Misspelled @ reference.com, Misspelled @ wiktionary.org.

Methinks misspelt is to misspelled as dreamt is to dreamed. --Macbeth 11:46, 7 Oct 2006 (CDT)

I believe the preference exists due to better usage in writing an article, as i think it's better to say, "Kass dreamed of The Three as he slept", than, "Kass Dreamt of The Three as he slept" (or "that's a misspelled word" versus, "That's a misspelt word" in this case). That they are both proper words is without question, but that they make an article look better and more official is key. --Jacob 12:17, 7 Oct 2006 (CDT)

Well, on the same thread, "I dreamed of a great wave [...]" sounds bizarre to me, being a native British-English speaker, with 'dreamt' sounding the norm. To me, 'misspelt' and 'dreamt' look better and "more official". I think the most, eh, 'neutral' course of action at this point is to follow the wikipedia guidelines, which, if I recall correctly, say to maintain the usage by whoever was the first major contributor to the article. Otherwise we'd get stuck reverting pages back and forth and never get any work done ;¬). It shouldn't come up too much anyway... 'Misspelt' isn't a very common word to use in an article, really...

Oh, and I suppose I may as well note the Neopets.com preference to the Commonwealth form... --Macbeth 12:35, 7 Oct 2006 (CDT)

Defence vs. Defense[edit]

Let is be known by editors that instead of "Defense" they are to use "Defence", the British variations. This is to be in line with how Neopets uses is (see the "Defence" attribute of a Neopet and the Defence Magic Shop). If there are acceptions to this rule, please state them so we can help explain the rule of spelling better. --Jacob 17:38, 27 May 2007 (CDT)

Leaded[edit]

leaded = led (unless it's an item)

That seems like an unneeded rule, to me, as not only is getting the complete wrong past declension for 'lead' in that way quite unlikely, 'leaded' is a perfectly normal word... We don't list all homophones in here, do we? --Macbeth 21:48, 23 Aug 2007 (UTC)

Hmmm...I have looked it up, and it does indeed seem to be a word. Feel kind of silly placing that there now...I wonder if I added that from a list of words or if it was a real misspelling I found here on the NeoDex? The history will be able to say...in either case, I think it can be taken down. --Jacob 23:31, 23 Aug 2007 (UTC)

Misspellings of direct quotes[edit]

As discussion in Talk:Faerie Acorns and Talk:Taelia has mentioned, there are some direct quotes on Neopets which are misspellings. Because of the fact we wish to provide a good product here, spelling is of high importance here...but also is direct quotes from the source. Do we give the direct quote despite the fact it's a misspelling, or do we tweak it to take away the small spelling errors?

I'm of the mind we change the small errors, because even though they are direct quotes from neopets, it's no reason for us to have bad spelling or grammar as well (sorry TNT :( ). To still mention the misspellings, I recommended in the above mentioned talk pages we could mention there are spelling errors in certain place of Neopets in the item article and 1-Player Challengers articles. Don't know if that will work, but anything to give the full story, right? --Jacob 00:54, 25 Aug 2007 (UTC)
