NeoDex:Administrators
Warning: Policy | |
---|---|
This page is, or relates closely to, NeoDex policy. While not set in stone, changes to policy should be discussed on the relevant talk page. |
Administrators are NeoDex editors who have sysop rights, giving them status and certain abilities. Administrators are equal to everyone else in terms of editorial responsibility. Some consider the terms "Sysop" and "Administrator" to be misnomers, as they indicate editors who have had performance and security based restrictions on several features lifted due to being trustworthy. Sysops should not have power over other users other than applying decisions made by all editors.
The community does look to administrators to perform essential housekeeping chores which require the extra access administrators are entrusted with. Among them are keeping an eye on new and changed articles, swiftly deleting vandalism, blocking IPs or users from future vandalism, and meeting editor requests for help which require administrator access. Because administrators are experienced members of the NeoDex, users seeking help will often turn to a administrator for advice and information. For a listing of all current administrators, see Special:Listadmins.
What's different for sysops
The Wiki software has a few important features restricted to normal users, which sysops have access to.
- The ability to edit protected pages (including MediaWiki-messages given out by the system in certain situations).
- To protect and unprotect pages.
- Delete pages and their history.
- View and restore deleted pages and their history.
- Permanently delete images. This is a non-reversible change: once deleted, always deleted.
- Revert pages quickly. Note any user can revert a page to an earlier version, sysops simply have a faster, automated reversion tool, known as rollback, to help them revert vandalism.
- Block IP addresses, IP ranges, and user accounts for a specific time or indefinitely.
- Unblock IP addresses, IP ranges, and user accounts.
- Check which the IPs are used by a user or accounts used by IP addresses.
Bureaucrats
Bureaucrats are administrators that have additional abilities besides the privileges that sysops do, including the ability to promote regular users to sysops or bureaucrats.
