Zafara
The Zafara is rumored to bring good luck to its owner and were released on May 25, 2000. Zafaras originally resembled ferrets and was the winner of a player-submitted Neopet competition, but were later redesigned into kangaroo-like creatures. They are of slightly above-average popularity among players.
Zafaras always have three spikes on their back, no more, no less. According to the information on the old zafara petpage, these spikes are apparently protective fins, for defence. Zafaras have an incredible hearing range, but they do not have a good sense of smell. Zataraluck is a example of a neopian Zafara. They were rumored to be Guards of the Fire Faerie due to their first magical ability; Flame. They are awesome in the battledome and if you train him well, he may shower some good luck on you.

- As of August 2006, there are 4.4 million Zafaras created, ranking them 18th out of 54 species in popularity, and come in 42 different colours.
- In the Neopets TCG, Zafaras are associated with the element of light.
- Zafaras were the first species to be painted with the Royal Paint Brush.
