You can get your Safety Deposit Box by clicking on the Shops task bar button and then on the safe image in the toolbar. The safety deposit box is free and it can store any number of items (and as many as you want). Any items kept in your safety deposit box are safe from the Pant Devil, Sludging etc. It also means you can carry more items, as your on hand inventory will carry more.
Storing 1000 different items in your safety deposit box gives you the Pack Rat Avatar.
