Newbie

A new player, rather, a 'new beginner', to Neopets. The title is not Neopets exclusive, and is in wide use around the internet. Although at times the words 'newbie' and 'n00b' are used as interchangeable synonyms, in reality they are considerably different. 'Newbie' is not taken as derogative, and is related to one's time on Neopets (although not one's skill, interestingly enough), where as 'n00b' is a mild insult and refers to a player (of any skill level or age) who makes a nuisance of themself intentionally.

There is no formal boundary between 'newbie' status and 'non-newbie' status, despite the fact that the user lookup shield stops saying 'newbie' a few days into one's account ownership: one can remain being a 'newbie' until one has spent one, two, possibly up to six months on Neopets, depending on the company.

It is not done to refer to someone with an older account to yourself as a 'newbie' regardless of whether the older account may still be classed as one, except perhaps if you once possessed an older account that was frozen.
