Doughnutfruit

The Doughnutfruit is a popular type of Tropical Food from Mystery Island. It gets its name from the shape of the fruit, which resembles a ring doughnut, and that many varieties possess a similar taste to various confectioneries, including doughnuts and muffins.

The fruit, as featured in Hasee Bounce, is one of the staple foods of the colony of Hasees on Mystery Island. The PetPets developed a see-saw mechanism in order to reach the fruit, which grows high up in the Island's canopies. Commercially, the number of varieties of different Doughnutfruit have encouraged a collectors trade in them - indeed, there is even a book, Doughnutfruit Collectors Guide, for this very purpose. In addition to being eaten as a fruit, they can be used in hot drinks and as a sandwich filling.

That the Doughnutfruit is only seen in hot drinks and not fruit juices suggests it could be similar to the aubergine or banana.

Varieties of Doughnutfruit

There are thirteen different varieties of Doughnutfruit. Each of these is named after its appearance, with the exception of one type, a light brown in colour, which is called just Doughnutfruit.

There are several products sold that list Doughnutfruits as ingredients. These are the Doughnutfruit Sandwich, Grilled Doughnutfruit, and Hot Doughnutfruit Juice.

Products based on the Doughnutfruit

The design of the Doughnutfruit has been mimicked in several other products - particularly in candy. In 2004, the Advent Calendar released a Chocolate Doughnutfruit, and the Chocolate Factory sells Hard Doughnutfruit Candies. Additionally, there is an unreleased image of a Doughnutfruit lollypop on the Neopets Image Servers.

There is also a Rainbow Doughnutfruit Plushie, also released from the Advent Calendar in 2004.

• In the Petpet Adventures: The Wand of Wishing PlayStation Portable game, Doughnutfruits can be used to heal 35 HP.
• In Hasee Bounce, there are also purple and orange Doughnutfruit shaped into the letters 'H', 'a', 's', and 'e'.
• Doughnutfruit are sometimes donated by the Healthy Food shopkeeper to the Money Tree.
