The Neopian Pound is a place you can go to disown your Neopets or adopt a new one. Once disowned, any Neopet can be adopted by another user. The exception to this rule is the Lutari which will run off to parts unknown when abandoned.

Abandoning a Pet

To abandon a pet, you simply go to the pound. The link can be found on the Pet Central page. Click on the yellow Techo. Click the button below your pet repeatedly until your pet is disowned. You can also create a PIN Number for use in this area.

Neopets that are above level 2, are Limited Edition species, or that have been painted with certain rare or expensive paintbrushes, CANNOT be adopted by any account younger than four months. So be careful when abandoning a pet, if you're planning on trying to re-adopt it!

A bold coloured Neopet may be adopted by anyone (checkered, black, white, pink, basic colours, etc.) but colours that change a Neopet's total appearance (darigan, baby, royal, etc.) can only be adopted by a member with an account over 4 months.

A Lutari cannot be adopted under any circumstances.

Transferring a Pet

Transferring a pet from one account or person to another is not endorsed by the Neopets Team. There is a certain amount of risk involved as there is a short period of time in which anyone can adopt the pet. Selling a pet is NOT ALLOWED!!!!!! Let's repeat: Selling a pet is NOT ALLOWED and will result in termination of your account. Pets that are above level 2, are limited-edition species, or that have been painted with certain rare or expensive paintbrushes, CANNOT be adopted by any account younger than four months. So be careful when abandoning a pet, if you're planning on trying to re-adopt it! Now that we have gone through all the warnings, there are two main techniques for transferring a pet:

Two Browser Method

This method is for one person and/or one computer. You need to have two different Internet Browsers installed on your computer, e.g. Firefox and Internet Explorer. In one browser (it doesn't matter which one), log in to the account with the pet you want to transfer. Go to the pound, but do not abandon the pet yet. In the other browser, log in to the account you wish to transfer the pet to. Go to the Adopt-A-Pet Search Engine and type in the name of the pet, but do not click "Find me my perfect pet!" yet. Go back to the disown page in the other browser. Click the button below the pet until the page starts changing. The second it does, go back to the other browser, click the button to search, and as soon as the page loads click on the image of the pet that you want to adopt. Hopefully you did it fast enough and the pet is transferred.

Two People Method

This method is for two people and two computers. If the two people are in contact via neomail, make sure you have a time you can both be on. One person (whoever has the pet), logs in to the account. Go to the pound, but do not abandon the pet yet. The other person logs in to the account you wish to transfer the pet to. That person goes to the Adopt-A-Pet Search Engine and types in the name of the pet, and clicks "Find me my perfect pet!". That person then neomails or tells the other person that they are ready. Then he/she starts refreshing like crazy (either press the refresh button at the top of the browser, or press F5) until the pet appears. Quickly click on the image of the pet. If all goes well, you should now have your pet.

Trivia

  • In the Editorial of issue 242 of the Neopian Times, it was revealed Battledome weapons attached to the Neopet while it goes to the pound remain attached. This has since been discontinued, and the equipped weapons will be placed in the users inventory upon going to the pound. A Petpet attached to the Neopet will still remain however.
