Talk:Plot
Not Plots?
In recent edits (which i reverted), such wiki links to plots such as NeoQuest I, Neopets: The Darkest Faerie, and Daily Dare were removed by UBracter. I think these were removed because they were believed not to be "plot" plots, i.e. didn't involve an elaborate plot or something (to the eye of the editor at least). However, i do think they constitute plots, as they either tell a story which Neopets characters, involved something different than everyday play or were one time events on the site. --Jacob 18:59, 20 May 2007 (CDT)
- I would agree with you on Daily Dare, as it was a one-time, involving feature... However, I am inclined to agree with UBracter on NQI, which is a game, not a plot, and Neopets: The Darkest Faerie, which is completely off-site content... --Macbeth 15:53, 21 May 2007 (CDT)
- They are stories which involve neopets characters, which were considered "told" (like other comic based plots) when they were released. If they have a "plot summary", they are a "plot". If an explanation between on and offsite plots are needed (and probably is), then it can be written on the article. --Jacob 00:20, 22 May 2007 (CDT)
I have to disagree... and I know this convo is really old but the description of plot literally says A plot is an on-site activity that tells a story of the Neopets world. Neither The Darkest Faerie nor Neopets: Petpet Adventures - The Wand of Wishing are on site. Additionally, TNT defines plot very specifically to refer to a very limited set of site events. As far as TNT is concerned, only the bold listings on this page are, technically, plots.
Additionally, the New Game Challenge is just games, pure and simple, no story, just prizes for getting certain scores of a newly-released game, so are Petpet park and the Habitarium (which isn't on here but whatever... ). TNT would never define any of these things as plots and neither would most of the players on the site. I really don't feel that the definition of plot applies to these things and I feel that they should be removed.
Everything else is what TNT considers a site event... AC, DD, GMC, etc... even the mini-plots like Disappearance of Krawk Island. These definitions are very structured and agreed on by TNT and most of the Neopian community and I feel that it is important that this site reflect what the actual definition of plot is.
I think that the best solution would be to remove the games and video games... they can have their own pages... and they pretty much all do... maybe give them a category to be a part of or something... throw Treasure Keepers in there, too... Then to separate the list of plots from the list of site events and keep them in chronological order with the recognition that TNT specifically calls some events site events and others plots. -Cath 15:36, 10 November 2011 (CST)
Proposed split
I was considering splitting this page, either into two articles or just into two sections of this article, to separate plots from "events". It has always been a bit of an ambiguous distinction (consult the above discussion from 2007!), but it's a difference difference in TNT have highlighted a lot recently. --Macbeth (talk) 12:50, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
- I have split (splitted? splat?) the page into two sections, rather than into two articles, and replaced the text links with big badges that include a plot-related image - I thought it might make the list more visually interesting! I don't want these badges to start appearing on other pages - like on character pages or the plot pages themselves - but I think they could be used on, say, the Altador Cup page to link to all the Altador Cups, or the Daily Dare page to link to all the Daily Dares.
- Right now, I'm using the same Daily Dare and Games Master Challenge images for all the Daily Dare and Games Master Challenge events - I might change this tomorrow, but for now, it does make it more obvious where TNT's originality dropped off, eh? ;-) --Macbeth (talk) 23:00, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Oh, also, in dividing up the plots and events, I made a few difficult calls: I've listed NPv2 and the Mystery Island Volcano Plot as events, and not plots. Traditionally, they've been considered plots - but I think they are much more similar things now classified as events, like Desert Diplomacy and the Disappearance of Krawk Island; than to plots like The Faeries' Ruin or the Curse of Maraqua. --Macbeth (talk) 23:04, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
