Praise and extra items

I like this design. i praise you for creating it Macbeth. *bows* I also think the information such as "world" and "np ratio" should be added to it as well. Will try my hand at editting the code, and edit the article you used it in accordingly. --Jacob 17:45, 24 Nov 2006 (CST)

Retired Games?

Should this template be used with retired games? A separate template, based on this one, possibly with a faded out yellow bar would be easy to create and show immediate distinction between retired and active games...

Perhaps we could even have a third infobox, specifically for sponsered games...? --Macbeth 18:41, 24 Nov 2006 (CST)

Would the template be something like "Infobox RetiredGame"? Doesn't sound like a bad idea, but saying the game was retired on so-and-so date would be just as easier i believe. And I think this template is fine with sponsored games as well. --Jacob 20:58, 24 Nov 2006 (CST)

I was thinking of having, on a retired game infobox, links to the highscore table and game striken through, and a game graveyard link (where applicable) and/or a link to a sucessor game (where applicable) in addition... --Macbeth 21:53, 24 Nov 2006 (CST)

I like that idea alright. :D let's try and example then: The new game, Ugga Smash, is actually a redone version of Bumper Cars, whose game page and hi-score table does not exist anymore. Ideally, they would be in the same article, showing the new and older version of the game (similar to showing the older version of Neopets: The Darkest Faerie before its change to PS2). The one template would be at the top, and one the bottom. how does that sound? --Jacob 22:07, 24 Nov 2006 (CST)

Perfect. (Bumper Car's ID is 61, I believe.)

I shall create the retired template, then? --Macbeth 22:19, 24 Nov 2006 (CST)

*thumbs up* go right ahead. :) --Jacob 22:25, 24 Nov 2006 (CST)
It would seem i've stepped on my own toes, as i realize now a sponsor game template IS needed (though we don't really need to go through all the articles for sponsor games, as that would just be crazy). Will now create such a template. --Jacob 21:27, 30 Nov 2006 (CST)

N.B.

This is primarily designed for flash games: games such as Armada, Treasure Maps or NQII will need a different template, I think... Their scoring methods usually aren't as simple as NP:P ratio, nor do they have play buttons :S. --Macbeth 18:59, 24 Nov 2006 (CST)

Those games you mentioned don't require any type of info box that i know of, as their rewards are very different from flash game. It would be highly unnessesary to create article specific templates similar to the one here...and difficult to fill, as the data is more complex than that of simple NP. --Jacob 20:58, 24 Nov 2006 (CST)
  • nods* Fair 'nough. --Macbeth 21:53, 24 Nov 2006 (CST)

Square Image?

The image used at the top of the template is the games play button image (which can be sourced from two different locations): images.neopets.com/games/playbuttons/playID.gif and images.neopets.com/games/clicktoplay/ctp_ID.gif, with ID being the ID number of the game.

There is also another image for each game, sourced from images.neopets.com/new_games/nID.gif. These are the square images shown on the new gameroom search pages and on the old game room as the game enteries in the catalogue. There are some cases where these exist for game IDs that do not posses play buttons, as the play button was introduced later.

Propose a cell at the bottom of the template holding these images, in addition to the one at the top holding the play button? --Macbeth 22:57, 24 Nov 2006 (CST)

Sounds like a good idea to me. :) --Jacob 11:57, 25 Nov 2006 (CST)

Ratio

Having the Ratio is important but with TNT's new system, it gets updated on a nearly daily basis, I think so I don't know how we would be able to keep them current.--Cath 22:51, 28 Jan 2008 (UTC)

Exactly how does the system work? Does it count how many people are playing the game and their scores, then either lowers or raises the ratio depending on that? It's a good idea, but in keeping things stable for people to know which games are worth their while in NP mining, I'm sure it would be rough. Well, in terms of keeping the articles current, I suppose we could...keep them current the best we can? :S It shoul be easier over time, because more users will sign up and read/edit articles, fixing things which aren't current. for the moment, I guess we make due with the crew we have. Wh00t. *raises fist* --Jacob 00:47, 29 Jan 2008 (UTC)
Under the new system, NP ratios change on almost a daily basis. It will be impossible to continuously update all the game pages. As such, I am going to remove the NP ratio from this template. - Emeraldosprey

Game Image

Since the change I made today (8th November 2013), if the GameImage property is left out (or incorrect - i.e. the image it points to is missing), the infobox will not display any image, rather than displaying a broken one. --Macbeth 18:35, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
