Hi Katie,From my own experience, I had ginaed weight just from having my thyroid ablated through radiation. I was originally prescribed Synthroid which did not seem very effective. After getting my doctor to prescribe Armour, I was able to get rid of some of the after effects like weight gain and tiredness. Because my thyroid was so overactive, I had to adjust my eating habits as I was able to eat almost anything and not gain weight before. My thyroid has lost all function so I am on a complete hormone replacement dose.Although things got back to normal after using the glandular Armour thyroid pills, I started putting on weight a couple years ago as I approached the 40 year mark. Not sure if it was age related, but I do have to exercise a lot more now that I'm in my 40s than I did in my 30s. I also take a glandular thyroid supplement in the evening before bed as I don't think my prescribed dose of Armour is enough. Eating a low carb diet has definitely made it easier for me to maintain a healthy weight. I do have higher carb foods once it a while, but I try to limit them to only special occasions. If I veer off the low carb routine for more than a day, I usually start feeling really tired and bloated. I also keep high protein low carb snacks at my desk to curb my appetite during work and keep me from getting tempted by the snacks my coworkers share.Lisa
