Everything here is debatable, including the name of the plot, as all information about this plot is so old and unavailable we can't tell what to say about it. If you were there during this time frame or know something, please add to the article--Jacob 21:13, 12 Mar 2006 (CST)

The plot showing the origin of Dr. Sloth. Began on August 15, 2000, although a trailer said it would begin on August 17th. However, an image of a Mutant Grundo and the Space Faerie appeared on the 15th, with The Neopets Team warning users to be wary of the large Grundo. Finished August 25, 2000.

The plot revolved around the appearance of the Virtupets Space Station and Dr. Sloth. While the details are sketchy due to the removal of the online comic that it was originally formatted as (rather than being one of Neopet's now commonly used flash comics), the basic plot concerned Dr. Sloth bringing the Virtupets Space Station into orbit around Neopia in order to fire his mutation ray and transform all species of Neopets into hideous monsters, thus allowing the advent of his Virtupets. He held Grundos in order to practice experiments on them, and Neopets players were encouraged to adopt enough Grundos to ensure that the operation would fail.

The Space Faerie attempted to stop him, but she was captured and held by Sloth. One of the Neopian locals (possibly Kauvara) discovered a coded message that had been relayed by Sloth, and this marked the initial creation and use of Codestones (never mind the origin of their name); by collecting and donating enough of these items, the message would be decoded and Sloth's nefarious plot could be thwarted. Distribution of Codestones was much higher during this period of time than any other (thus allowing for more of them to be used to finish the plot) and many of these Codestones were sacrificed in order to free the Space Faerie, who then counteracted Sloth's diabolical machine and saved Neopia.

Trivia

  • After Sloth was defeated, Moehogs were found in the detention level the Space Station, being held captive. They were released, making them available to adopt.
  • Codestones were officially released to the public as part of the plot, although their use as training items would not be cemented until the release of the Battledome.
  • For part of the time this plot was running, a website known as Virtupets was up as a contrary to Neopets; designs for the Virtupets monsters were made available through this outlet.
