The Down for Maintenance Pteri is a red Pteri who is seen on the "Down for Maintenance" page, which typically appears to a user when trying to access the website while The Neopets Team is updating Neopets. It may also appear as a result of too much server load.
Overview
The Down for Maintenance Pteri was originally an un-named Pteri, but became known as the Pteri seen when Neopets puts up the "Down for Maintenance". The Pteri is shown as upset that the site is down, but players often blamed the Pteri. Users began asking for a way to vent their frustration on the Pteri, and from 27 July 2004, a Random Event was introduced in which it would challenge users. The challenger has a new appearance as well, this one appearing menacing and evil, as if it were the cause of Neopets being down for maintenance.
Besides these appearances, it's also possible the Red Pteri shown in the "Neopets Hints" box of official Neopets shops is the very same Pteri.
