King Kelpbeard is a ruler of New Maraqua. Pronounced as king kelp-beerd. During the Old Maraqua era, the pirates were angered at King Kelpbeard for standing up for Maraqua and against Captain Scarblade. The pirates attacked and Maraqua was destroyed, and its people scattered.

Years later, King Kelpbeard oversaw the rebuilding of a new city in a secret location. King Kelpbeard became old and wiser, and organized armies to protect New Maraqua and prevented surface dwellers to discover the location. He also ordered the people to not interact with those of the surface, believeing it was for the better.

King Kelpbeard is a 53 years old male and he is a Blue Koi. His quote is "Never trust the surface-dwellers." His duties are to renovate Maraqua and guiding and protecting his citizens.

King Kelpbeard is not the original king of the plot Curse of Maraqua but he is a noble leader to the free people of Maraqua.

Plot summary

Curse of Maraqua

Main Article: Curse of Maraqua

New Maraqua was discovered after Garin escaped from New Maraqua's prison, letting his gossip of the city spread to the ears of Captian Scarblade, who attacked the city. King Kelpbeard and his army had the strength to defend their kingdom (with little help from all of Neopia), and were able to force back the attack. New Maraqua now trades with surface once again. King Kelpbeard will not forget that fateful day so many years ago.
