As the ritual was completed, the artefact exploded. Hanso picked himself up, and saw Brynn still lying on the ground, while outside of Xandra's magical barrier, the heroes had been turned to stone. The Phantoms closed in on Xandra, who scoured them away with green flames. Hanso seemed horrified as the Xweetok stood with an evil glint in her eye as Faerieland crashed behind them in a shower of fireballs.

Xandra revealed she had caused Faerieland to crash as a symbol because she saw Faeries as "winged tyrants" - and Hanso realised that the Nox he saw casting the spell had been her in disguise. Xandra that the Faeries had much power but didn't get involved enough in the affairs of Neopets, despite her urgings. The artefact Hanso had stolen and the artefact they found in the ruin had served to amplify her magic so she could overwhelm the Faeries.
Xandra revealed she had saw Faerieland as a symbol of power that needed to be destroyed for the "good of Neopia". She caused the floating kingdom to crash because she saw Faeries as "winged tyrants" - and Hanso soon realized that the Nox he saw casting the spell had been her in disguise. Xandra claimed that the Faeries saw her magical potential and was brought to their kingdom to study with them. However, she learned that with all that great power they possess, they chose not to get more involved in the affairs of the Neopians. And so she plotted to deal with them all and have the world of Neopets ruled by a single Neopet: her, specifically. The small artefact Hanso had stolen and the larger artefact they found in the ruin had both served simply to amplify her magic so she could overwhelm the Faeries, while the shadowy "Wraiths" were revealed as nothing more than a mere side-effect from the petrification spell.

Xandra wanted to rebuild Neopia with Neopets and their own strengths, not the blessings of the Faeries. She asked Brynn and Hanso to join her: Brynn refused at once, but Hanso listened. Xandra said that if Hanso helped her rebuild, he would be remembered as a hero, not a thief. Recalling the distrust the heroes has shown him, Hanso agreed to help her.
