Hoban How to Draw final image.

Hoban (also known as Hoban the Navigator) is a Yellow Aisha, and the navigator of The Cyodrake's Gaze. His personality varies according to the different accounts of other crew members upon the merchant ship, but he is basically portrayed as being an informal, slightly bad tempered, generally cheerful character. The contents of his shoulder bag also varies slightly in each account.

Trivia

cgp_hobans_hat.gif
  • One of the plot prizes for The Cyodrake's Gaze was Hobans Hat, a weapon for the Battledome, showing that Hoban's hat was more than just for show (as the item description says). Interestingly, the real Hoban's hat does not give off yellow smoke/mist, like the prize does, and it has never been shown doing anything magical in the comics or anywhere else.
  • How To Draw tutorial added September 30, 2006.
  • Neopedia article was added September 29, 2007.
  • To date, no other (male) Aishas have played a major role in plots; up until the arrival of the Cyodrake's Gaze, all the lead character Aishas in plots were female (e.g., The Court Dancer, Caylis, Isca).
  • Hoban appears on the cover of the book Extreme Shenkuu, though his shoulder bag is a different color, his hair appears to be styled differently, and he is wearing red pants on the book's cover.
  • After he threatened to sail the Cyodrake's Gaze into a storm, one really did come upon the ship, implying that he may have psychic powers like Isca and Caylis, or the power to control the skies or the sea, or both. Hoban and the two aforementioned Aishas share vaguely similar hair colour and a strong association with the sea.
  • The name 'Hoban' likely comes from the TV series Firefly, as is suggested by the "Leaf on the Wind" avatar.
  • Some of Hoban's personality traits may have been loosely based on Nami from One Piece; they are both headstrong navigators that pilot their respective ships. Also, Nami is 18 years old, which is around the standard age for many Neopian plot characters; however, Hoban is 30, as stated in his Neopedia article.
  • Linae shares a small number of traits with Hoban as well, as their species (Kougra and Aisha respectively) are based on real-life cats, they are both argumentative, and they both wear brown clothing.
