Caylis is a Maraquan Aisha and Isca's sister. Orphaned at a young age along with her sister, she was taunted by prophetic nightmares which usually came to harm Maraqua. Fearing she was the cause of the troubles, Caylis was treated as an outcast and banished from Maraqua, becoming a cynic in the loneliness of the ocean. Although her demeanor seems dark, her heart is pure, and eventually stepped in and became instrumental in the battle against Captain Scarblade and his pirate forces in Curse of Maraqua. She came to be appreciated by the Maraquan community but opted to live alone elsewhere.

Curse of Maraqua
- Main Article: Curse of Maraqua
Caylis, the twin sister of Isca, was orphaned at an early age by the whirlpool which presumably killed her parents. She and her sister survived in the ruins until Kelpbeard found them and brought them back to refuge.
Just as Isca had dreams of the future, Caylis did as well. The only difference is that Caylis’s were of unavoidable disasters, and the people blamed her for what she predicted. Kelpbeard banished her to supposedly protect his people. Caylis lived outside the city for years, sobbing in her loneliness as Maraqua rebuilt.
Many years later, as Isca helps Captain Garin back to the surface outside the city, Caylis encountered Isca again. Instead of being happy to see her sister again, Caylis scorned Isca’s favoured spot of the king. She reminded her that just as Isca didn’t ask for her dreams, she didn’t ask for her terrifying nightmares. Caylis swims back out into the open sea, saying “It would be better if we never meet again.”
Much later on, Garin attempts to swim back to Maraqua to warn Isca of Scarblade’s incoming attack, but he’s quickly lost without a guide. He heard sobbing and found who he thought was Isca. It was actually her twin Caylis. Garin explained that he was trying to find Maraqua, but Caylis refused to help, bitter that they banished her years ago. Garin attempted to convince her to help him. Caylis agreed to help him for her sister’s sake. They headed for the city, and once they arrived, they are both arrested by the King’s soldiers.
Inside the palace, both Caylis and Garin were put before the King. After Garin warned the King, he turned to Caylis and asked what she had to do with the pirate’s visit. Caylis angrily replied that she even though she tried to help, she was only treated unfairly. She also points out that Kelpbeard would never listen to an outsider, even if they were telling the truth. Kelpbeard has her thrown out of the city, this time with her sister, who had also been banished.
Outside the city, Caylis watches with her sister as Scarblade begins his attack on Maraqua. Isca tried to convince Caylis to help in battle, but Caylis retorted that not only would they be killed trying, the Maraquans would deserve their fate for banishing them. The two sisters continued to watch the battle. Eventually, Garin found both the sisters. Both Garin and Isca agree that they have to help, but Caylis reminded them that three people can not do much good against an army. All of a sudden, Goregas, Isca’s pet arrived, having been called much earlier in the story. Isca optimistically told Caylis that the odds were a little better. Caylis then observed that the Maraquans were losing, and that they had better do something quickly, if anything at all.
Jacques and the Black Pawkeet’s crew arrived at that moment, and Caylis calmly stated they needed a plan before rushing into battle (as Garin suggested). Isca agreed and quickly formulated a plan. She told Caylis to take a message to the inside of the city, using secret passages. Caylis declined Isca’s task, saying Isca should do her own dirty work. Jacques took up the task instead, and Caylis remained stubbornly stationary as the rest swim into battle.
Jacques becomes lost in the tunnels, and although she had refused her sister, swam into the tunnels to help Jacques out. (This also marks the first time she smiles in the entire comic.) Both she and Jacques arrived inside the city, where they explain Isca’s plan to Swordmaster Talek. Talek offered Caylis a sword before they go into battle, but she turns down his offer. Her hands glow bright blue as she says, “I have something more powerful than that sword.”
Taken by surprise by Caylis’s powerful magic, the pirates become easy targets for Jacques and the Maraquan forces. The forces of Maraqua and Garin’s crew trap the pirates inside the main gate of the city, and while their Captain is fighting King Kelpbeard, they are easily captured.
After the war is won, Kelpbeard apologizes to Caylis, and her banishment is lifted. Even though she is allowed in the city, she says city life isn’t for her, and continues to live outside the city.
