Guide For Use[edit]

This template is made to be used on article pages to for characters who have been featured in Better Than You.

To use this template, enter into the trivia section of a page:

{{BTY|date=

|score=
|game=
|a/an=
|prize=

|quote=}}

and fill in the fields, e.g.

{{BTY|date=32nd February 1861

|score=190000
|game=Ice Cream Machine
|a/an=a
|prize=Leaf Taco

|quote=Muhahahaha! You shall never beat my score!}}

Date refers to the date the character was featured, score the score players had to beat, game what game the character was playing, prize what item was offered in addition to the standard NP prize, and quote is what the character was quoted as saying on the Better Than You page. The field a/an is for whether the prize requires the a indefinite article or the an indefinite article.

Any further questions, drop a line. --Macbeth 08:16, 4 Jan 2007 (CST)

Multiple Appearances[edit]

I like the idea of this template, and it saves the user some time in posting the info. However, it's limited, as you can only post one Better Than You Data, and many characters have been featured twice, such as Grarrg. Would it be best for characters like that to just type it out? --Jacob 22:24, 4 Jan 2007 (CST)

How about a template BTY2 which says something like "The character was also featured a {{{number}}} time in..." e.g. The character was also featured a second time in...--Demon 03:49, 5 Jan 2007 (CST)

I mainly created it as I kept having to check previous articles to see how we formatted BTY data ;). I like the idea of a BTY2 template, I hadn't thought of this... Or indeed, "name was featured again on date, scoring score in game. The prize was a prize. Quoted as saying..." etc... --Macbeth 10:20, 5 Jan 2007 (CST)

Remove category link from template?[edit]

I'm noticing that with the BTY category added to this template, it puts the category in the front of all the others. this makes the categories unorganized. Yes, i have a "system" of organizing the categories on the bottom. Better than you is character data, and therefore would go after the characters/villains/heroes categories, and with such categories as "battledome Opponents" (as it's character information), and before gaming links or other links (such as the Luck and Chance games category in Illusen's article, and possibly Merchadise after that...as she once had an action figure). would like this looked into before formatting the coding any further of other articles. --Jacob 11:58, 5 Jan 2007 (CST)

It seems to me to be the best way of going about it... It ensures that everyone who needs it is in the Better Than You category. Many of the characters I just updated were not... --Macbeth 12:01, 5 Jan 2007 (CST)

Maybe there is another way to seperate the BTY category from the others? For example, add a blank line or <br /> before the category tag? It might make the BTY appear under the other categories:
Category:Characters
Category:Better Than You?--Demon 14:21, 5 Jan 2007 (CST)

Hmm... If it's got to come after 'characters', can't we include that in the template also? --Macbeth 14:58, 5 Jan 2007 (CST)
But most characters are categorized as characters and as member of their species, Sinsi for example. :(--Demon 15:02, 5 Jan 2007 (CST)
Well, if we had Category: Characters and Category: Better Than You as part of the template, and we removed those categories from the pages with the template... The you would get "Categories: Characters | Better Than You | [...]", and things like Category:Ixi could follow that... --Macbeth 15:06, 5 Jan 2007 (CST)

*sigh* this is being made much more difficult than it needs to be it seems. in either case, the proper and correct order of categories would be characters, "species category", and then Better than you category. And putting that into the Better than you template would just be complicated and confusing, when all we need to do is manually place the categories at the bottom of the page as we have been doing. yes? :( --Jacob 15:15, 5 Jan 2007 (CST)

:'( I like automation. How about we include a variable in the category coding for species? --Macbeth 15:22, 5 Jan 2007 (CST)

If you can figure it out in some way, then go right ahead. Just remember the rules of categories: All characters go in the "characters" category, unless they are in the "heroes" or "villains" category, in which case it's taken out. the "faeries" category is tagged on after that if the character is a faerie. Also, should the battledome categores (battledome opponent/Defenders of Neopia Opponent) go before or after the Better than you category? I think i've been doing them before for awhile...*ponders* --Jacob 15:31, 5 Jan 2007 (CST)

O_O.
Could you write a NeoDex:101 things you need to know about categories, please? --Macbeth 15:41, 5 Jan 2007 (CST)
I assume that won't be the title when it's finished (will most likely be moved). :D but yes, you are right. a category guideline should be created, especially with the complicated description i gave. Mind you, if the process of ordering categories needs to be editted, it shall be done, seeing as no rules have been set in stone yet (but will be once i create NeoDex:101 things you need to know about categories).
