In each round, the player may select up to two items of their Neopet's equipment for it to use, and select a stance or [[ability]] (either species specific or a Faerie ability). Once both players have chosen, what equipment each battler used and the damage they did is displayed. Since the 2012 update, this is accompanied with battle animations. If both of the competitors still have health remaining, another round begins and this repeats. Else, the challenger with no health remaining loses and the other player is victorious. Matches may end up in a draw.
