All Novas (except Grey and Christmas, which have shown no magic) can be used to power Battledome Equipment, some of which are credited to be the most amazing in the Battledome. All Novas (except Grey and Christmas) have a wand (which produces 1 of the nova), a staff (which produces 2 of the nova) and a rod (except for Ultranova, but has a fake version) (which produces 3 of the nova, plus has attack, defense and multiheal abillity.). And there are seven more kind of novas that serve as minions for Dr. Sloth, which are Mecha Novas, Fire Novas, Pulsar Novas, Dark Nova, Light Nova, Pink Novas, and Attack Novas.
These Novas can be used in the Battledome. Most are single-use (also known as bombs) and will disappear after being thrown at an opponent. Wands, Staffs, and Rods will create Novas of the corresponding type in the Battledome. For example, a Staff of Dark Nova will produce 2 Dark Novas each round it is used. Rods are considerably more powerful, because in addition to producing three Novas, they will also heal, attack, and defend, and they will not break. There is currently no Rod of Ultranova.  Due to their relatively high price and low power, only Ultranovas and Rods tend to be used in the Battledome.

Six examples of motes.

A Mote is a small being of magical energy taking a specific elemental or environmental form. Most motes are fragile Battledome items with low offensive or defensive power.

General Overview

Motes are items categorized under Brightvale Motes. Motes were originally categorized as Magic Items, but this changed on (need date). Though they are considered items, they are living, a fact all the more true from the Book The Water Mote, which tells the tale of one such Mote.

Nova

All novas currently in existence.

Although called a Magic Item, a Nova is considered a Mote due to it's ability to hold all elements of magic within it, and not just a single one as regular Motes (a fact established in Neopets: The Darkest Faerie).

Magical Novas have a different degree of power in each form. They are:

 • Nova
 • Supernova
 • Dark Nova
 • Ultranova

These Novas can be used in the Battledome. Most are single-use (also known as bombs) and will disappear after being thrown at an opponent. Wands, Staffs, and Rods will create Novas of the corresponding type in the Battledome. For example, a Staff of Dark Nova will produce 2 Dark Novas each round it is used. Rods are considerably more powerful, because in addition to producing three Novas, they will also heal, attack, and defend, and they will not break. There is currently no 'Rod of Ultranova. Due to their relatively high price and low power, only Ultranovas and Rods tend to be used in the Battledome.

There are seven more kinds of Novas that serve as minions for Dr. Sloth: Mecha Novas, Fire Novas, Pulsar Novas, Dark Nova, Light Nova, Pink Novas, and Attack Novas. They are featured in the game Nova Defender.

The Scarabnova is unique, because it can be considered both a Nova and a Scarab. It is retired, obtainable only from the Brucey B and the Lucky Coin plot. In the Battledome, it either steals a Nova from the opponent or destroys them all.

The Grey Nova and Christmas Nova have no battle functions.

Trivia

 • As of December 2006, Motes are featured in 115 different items.
 • It is said the Black Cherry Slushie will "...create a taste supernova in your mouth."
 • The Scarabnova is a Battledome weapon geared against Novas. It may steal a Nova from an opponent, or create a sonic vibration which can cause all of an opponent's Novas to explode.
 • The word mote means a very small particle (such as dust or sand), and may also be used here in reference to emoticons, a relationship noteworthy due to most Motes having a smile.
 • A Mote avatar was released on May 23, 2007.
 • The name of the mote Ree Mote is a play on the word remote, as in a far distance. Likewise, Dee Mote is a play on demote as in depression and Ee Mote is a play on Emote as in emotion.
