The remains of a sludged item.

A Pile of Sludge is a smelly pile of slime, usually the remains of an item that used to be in a users inventory. This is usually caused by a Random Event, when a ray is shot from the sky and sludges a random item. Sludging (as this is sometimes referred to) is the work of Dr. Frank Sloth, and items that are turned to sludge cannot be restored. Items in a users Safety Deposit Box are safe from sludging, which is why many users choose to keep their valuables safely stowed away there.

Items can also be turned into a Pile of Sludge by the Wheel of Misfortune, which will earn a user the Wheel of Misfortune avatar.

Trivia

  • Petpets cannot be turned into sludge when attached to a Neopet, but can be turned into a Pile of Soot by using the Petpet Lab Ray on them. This can be reversed either by using the ray until the Petpet is turned into something else, or by returning the Petpet to the user's inventory (from where they may be returned to the Neopet). However, just like all other items, a Petpet left in the inventory can be turned into sludge.
