Neopets has always been strict about multiple accounts. However, they've never really given us a definitive answer on what is, and isn't allowed. Hopefully this page will shed some light on this. If you personally have any information, please add it to this page.
Multiple Accounts also known as side accounts, is a term used by The Neopets Team and the community of Neopets for users who have more than one account/username they log into on a daily basis. Users create multiple accounts (to a maximum of 5) for many reason: they want to try a new username, own different Neopets, want to become part of another guild, boredom, or many other reasons. Having multiple accounts is allowed, but can be difficult at times due to the many actions the user must refrain from, or have one or more of their accounts suspended or frozen, due to the fact having multiple accounts can give a user an unfair advantage over other users.

Official Neopets' Statements
Overview
Your main account must be the only account you use for daily Neopoint-gaining activities such as flash games, Tombola, Shrine, Fruit Machine, Snowager, Kiosk, Mystery Pic etc...
Of the 5 accounts a user is allowed to log into on a daily basis, only one is to be their main account, i.e. to gain Neopoints from or any profit of any kind. This account can gain Neopoints from games, collect items from the dailies, have a shop, participate in voting activities and all other profitable activities.

You may have up to 4 other accounts for guilds, galleries, storage, and extra neopets (which we hope are fed on a daily basis!)
The other 4 accounts, called side accounts, can be used for guilds, galleries, item storage, and extra Neopets. No Neopoint gaining games can be played by this account, or dailies (except the Healing Springs or the Soup Kitchen) or other profitable activities. Neopoints and items can be transferred to side accounts from the main account or other side accounts (all of which should be same e-mail address as the main account) to help the user feed their Neopets, create a gallery or gain access to the Lab Ray, but the side accounts are to never give items to the main account for means of a profit.
We do not mind if you use your other 4 accounts to gain Neopoints via your Shop, or the Trading Post, as these Neopoints do not come out of thin air, they require you to actually be selling items.

If you already have more than 4 accounts, but do not use them to make Neopoints, don't worry thats fine - just please don't create any more.
If the user is the leader of a guild, they may use 1 of the 5 accounts as a guild account (naming it as such as well), which can own a shop for the guild activities. This account cannot earn Neopoints in any manner other than through the store, auctions and trades. Users can only have one guild account for a guild, and actions taken on a guild account can affect the users other accounts).

Thanks for playing Neopets, and we hope you understand that we make these rules to make Neopia a fairer, and a more exciting place for everybody!
Users also cannot share or play another users account as a favor while they are on vacation for a long time or for other such reasons. This gains a profit for the real user while away and is seen as gaining an advantage over other users, making it a freezable offense. This rule is also in effect for the users safety, as an argument between account sharers could result in one of them to change the accounts email and password, taking credit of all the work put into the account.

Just to re-iterate, creating multiple accounts to gain extra neopoints with is NOT allowed. It is unfair to people who play by the rules, and heavily scorned upon by the Neopets Team. Please don't do it, and when your accounts are frozen please dont email us asking for them back, because they will never be unfrozen.
Complications
While the rules of having multiple accounts are fairly simple, there are situations which can cause confusion and have TNT take action against users who may look like they are breaking rules, but aren't. Users who share one computer and all have separate accounts is a good example, because to one who doesn't know the living situations, it could look like a user was making a profit off of many different accounts, especially if those users share items with each other. Even if all the users have different emails, it would still require TNT to investigate each account. Some users put notes to TNT on their profiles saying that they share a computer, but these do no good, as cheaters would be very likely to do the same

Just a quick warning, we are getting VERY strict with multiple accounts. We will freeze anybody who creates multiple accounts in order to gain a financial (neopoint) advantage over others. Basically, if you have a couple of extra accounts to store neopets, or items, or a guild that is fine. However, if you log into multiple accounts on a daily basis and use the shrine, tombola etc.. to get neopoints... then wave bye-bye to ALL your accounts.
Trivia
*On 7 November 2005 the Terms and Conditions of Use on the Neopets site was updated.  One of these changes required that users only have one shop for their main account (excluding a single guild account), and restricted the collection of dailies to a user's main account.
*A change in rules before 7 November 2005 had allowed users with more than 5 accounts to keep all of their accounts (provided that they did not make any more) but an editorial dated 11 November 2005 confirmed that the updated Terms and Conditions restricted users to a maximum of 5 accounts and required that all users deactivate any accounts in excess of that limit.

You are allowed to have up to 5 accounts if you want to own more than 4 Neopets or run a gallery, guild, or a second shop, but freebies that give out prizes like Tombola and Coltzan's Shrine can only be used once per person, regardless of how many accounts you have. So just alternate between accounts each day you use the freebies. You may switch items between accounts once in a while, just do not turn your second account into an account that gains NeoPoints for your main account. You may also play games for NeoPoints, use the Healing Springs and get omelettes on the other accounts as long as you keep them in that account. **thanks to vastluvr for this information.

Myself, my wife and our daughter all play Neopets and we all have our own account which is each individuals main account. Therefore we each play games do the dailies and so on. Currently due to some nasty bugs on the net we are down to one computer. So on some days we each may get a "shift" on the computer to deal with our own account. Will this lead to one or all of our accounts being frozen? When they were set up over a year ago we had 3 computers but as stated only one remains alive.

*I have a classmate who plays Neopets, and, because of studying, he cant play it now, and he asked me to make the daylies, Will one of our acoounts be frozen???, because I also use my account for the daylies..., OH!, and I have two little brothers, each one of us has a different account, and they sometimes give me some useful items, because I'm kind with them. The question is: Will one of our account be frozen???
** At one stage this would have been no.  However Neopets has suffered a little since it was sold.  I would advize emailing the staff and telling them what the situation is that you could be in and asking them thier opinion in advance then if anything happens you can say "but you said".  As they say "...if you log into multiple accounts on a daily basis and use the shrine, tombola etc.. to get neopoints... then wave bye-bye to ALL your accounts." --Lord Matt 10:23, 6 Nov 2005 (CST)

The owner of Avatar (the Darigan Eyrie) was frozen for "having multiple accounts and encouraging others to do the same." (What the owner of Avatar said TNT told them) They were frozen for having only TWO accounts. This is COMPLETELY unfair.

*It has been my experience that if all the accounts from different family members use the same email addresss they are prone to automatic freezing. Whereas if they use different addresses, it is less likely (still not impossible) that they will be frozen.

Overview[edit]

Of the 5 accounts a user is allowed to log into on a daily basis, only one is to be their main account, i.e. to gain Neopoints from or any profit of any kind. This account can gain Neopoints from games, collect items from the dailies, have a shop, participate in voting activities and all other profitable activities.

Complications[edit]

While the rules of having multiple accounts are fairly simple, there are situations which can cause confusion and have TNT take action against users who may look like they are breaking rules, but aren't. Users who share one computer and all have separate accounts is a good example, because to one who doesn't know the living situations, it could look like a user was making a profit off of many different accounts, especially if those users share items with each other. Even if all the users have different emails, it would still require TNT to investigate each account. Some users put notes to TNT on their profiles saying that they share a computer, but these do no good, as cheaters would be very likely to do the same[1][2][3]

Trivia[edit]

 • On 7 November 2005 the Terms and Conditions of Use on the Neopets site was updated. One of these changes required that users only have one shop for their main account (excluding a single guild account), and restricted the collection of dailies to a user's main account.
 • A change in rules before 7 November 2005 had allowed users with more than 5 accounts to keep all of their accounts (provided that they did not make any more) but an editorial dated 11 November 2005 confirmed that the updated Terms and Conditions restricted users to a maximum of 5 accounts and required that all users deactivate any accounts in excess of that limit.
