A Merger[edit]
It is arguable about whether or not there is a difference between newbie and n00b, and even if there is, the two articles can still have their content on one page. Definitely should be merged. --NeoEva88 21:34, 27 Aug 2006 (CDT)
- I concur. makes sense, seeing and newbie is a part of noob. i assume "N00b" will be the main article, right, and "Newbie" a section in it? --Jacob 22:03, 27 Aug 2006 (CDT)
While I disagree whether the difference between 'n00b' and 'newbie' is moot, however, I agree with the proposed merger: the terms are similar, are occasionally used interchangably, and it would appear 'n00b' was derived from 'newbie'... --Macbeth 10:55, 28 Aug 2006 (CDT)
- When you feel the merger is complete, create the other page as a redirect page, to go to the "main" page. --Jacob 19:29, 11 Sep 2006 (CDT)
- Wow, it seems we forgot about this merger. I think it's high time we got back to that. :D on what are will become the main one, i think it should be "Newbie", as it's a term actually used via the user shield shown in the article, while n00b is not (due to it being a more negative term).
- By the way, a big thanks to Macbeth for bringing this back to mind, and for making a big overhaul on the template and all the others as well. ;) *thumbs up* --Jacob 07:16, 7 Jan 2007 (CST)
- Any time ;). I made a stab at merging and wikifying... --Macbeth 11:48, 7 Jan 2007 (CST)
Spamming Newbs[edit]
Spamming Newbs? I've never really heard of this term. Aren't these people normally just called spammers? I move that we delete this section from the article. --NeoEva88 17:22, 11 Sep 2006 (CDT)
- I believe "Spamming Newbs" refers to the fact that some n00bs spam neoboards and other users qith neomail, being constantly annoying even when the question has been answered. of course, this could just be refered to the fact that people pretend to be newbies in order to mess with others andf have fun...hence the n00b. Instead of deletion, add it to a part of the article. --Jacob 19:29, 11 Sep 2006 (CDT)
What?[edit]
Despite this, it is possible to remain a 'newbie' depending on the context, for example in the context of plots or games, players who have been playing for six years or more may be considered a "newbie" compared to newer players based on their experience in these specific instances.
So.....the person with six years experience is a newbie compaired to someone who is new to the site in the context of plot information? That makes no sense. -- 10-Volt 23:33, 20 Mar 2007 (CST)
- It does make sense. Another example: I may be around for several years, with no problem answering most questions in Neopets. But if you decided to ask me regarding battledome related questions, I will give you a totally blank look... I'm a newbie at battledome, yet I'm experience at the same time. But if you're trying to figure out why a six years user is still a newbie at Neopets plots, that will depend on whether he/she is active in those plots. If he/she isn't, he/she can even reply "What plot?" --SwordFire 07:46, 21 Mar 2007 (CST)
- See, when you put it like that, it makes sense. However, the paragraph as it is....I don't know. It just seems like it would require more explanation than really necessary of a wiki article. -- 10-Volt 14:49, 21 Mar 2007 (CST)
The explanation SwordFire used can be implemented to improve the confusing paragraph. ;) --Jacob 16:19, 21 Mar 2007 (CST)
- Yeah. N00bs are spammers. Newbies are spammers Monkeyyboy 08:28, 26 May 2008 (CDT)
Newbie/N00b[edit]
I disagree with this definition of n00b because I don't think it makes enough of a statement that a newbie or being called a newbie is/should not be viewed negatively, as it's just a matter of account age/experience, whereas a n00b can be of any age and is always used negatively due to (usually) the user intentionally be annoying. I think I've even seen TNT address it but I can't back that up with proof at this time. I don't know that I think these should be separate as they are often confused but I protest the "definition" of n00b. Maybe I'm just misreading but I don't see that this article makes a definite separation between the two. --Cath 13:38, 17 Aug 2007 (UTC)
- If you think the difference between newbie and n00b can be described better (because the article is trying to convey that...or what I think it should convey), feel free to update the text.
