The Kaus' milk has restorative powers. Gentle and peace loving, Kaus love large green pastures on which it can feed itself. In battle, the Kaus focus is more defensive than offensive, but that doesn't mean it can't still pack a punch. Its horns are good enough to teach those foolish enough to annoy it a lesson they won't forget. Kaus are natural mothers, and should anyone choose to search for one to befriend, look no further than a hospital or community orientated project. Also extremely intelligent, Kaus are known for their magical potion-making ingenuity.

Kaus were one the pets that oringinally were humans. Kaus were Macy Grays, but this was changed for legal resons.

Kaus have [[wikipedia:cloven hooves|cloven hooves]] and [[wikipedia:horns|horns]], but don't appear to have [[wikipedia:udders|udders]].

Kaus seem to have a penchant for magic - [[Kalandra]] and the [[Kau Fortune Teller]] both use crystal balls to predict the future, and [[Kauvara]] is Neopia's foremost potion maker. They also love to sing - although they only know one note, [http://www.neopets.com/petinfo.phtml?type=Kau "Moo!"].  
As of June 2007, the Kau can come in 38 different [[Rainbow Pool|colours]]. The Spotted Kau resembles a real cow.

The Kau was first introduced at [[Neopets|the site]]'s founding as the [[wikipedia:Macy Gray|Macy Gray]], based on the singer of the same name but armed with a ray gun and with her name hyphenated. It was replaced with the bovine-like Kau on 26 July 2000 "for legal reasons".
