The '''Bruce''' (named for [[wikipedia:Bruce Forsyth|Bruce Forsyth]], see [[Bruce#Old_designs|below]]) is a species of [[wikipedia:Penguin|penguin]]-like [[Neopet]]. Native to [[Terror Mountain]], Bruces have a strong tolerance for cold weather. They are competitive Neopets that excel at dancing and [[wikipedia:winter sport|winter sport]]s like [[wikipedia:ice skating|ice skating]].  
The '''Bruce''' is one of the original [[Neopet]]s. It first looked like ''Bruce Forsyth'' (an actual photograph), and has been redrawn many times, first to a caricature of ''Bruce Forsyth'', and then a penguin, retaining only the bowtie from its first incarnation, to coincide with the introduction of [[Terror Mountain]] on November 16, 2000. Despite their appearance, Bruces are generally good at sports and love to dance, compete in winter games, and eat cold food. They originally came from the snow-covered Terror Mountain region.


Bruces love showing off their remarkable sense of balance by skating, dancing and generally being good at sports. Originally from the snowy land of [[Terror Mountain]], Bruces can be found all over Neopia, even in the [[Lost Desert]].
Bruces are dressed in large [[wikipedia:bow-tie|bow-tie]]s and usually have a [[wikipedia:cowlick|cowlick]] crest on the top of their heads. When painted [[Maraquan]], they resemble the white-spotted boxfish, ''[[wikipedia:Ostracion meleagris|Ostracion meleagris]]''. In the [[Neopets Trading Card Game]], they are associated with the element of Light.

The Bruce originally wasn't a penguin-based Neopet, but was based on real world entertainer Bruce Forsyth. It originally appeared as a sepia photograph of him, before it was redrawn, still in his image. Concerned that this design "didn't really fit in with the theme", the Bruce was redesigned on 16 November 2000 into its penguin incarnation. This would undergo some later redraws but the design itself remains virtually unchanged today.
