One of many neopets available in Neopia. The Chia is a lovable little character who is full of joy. Chia love exploring the land and making new friends. The chia was the first neopet ever made and comes in the widest variety of colors of all the pets including a range of fruit colors attained using magical chia pops. [http://www.pinkpt.com/neodex/index.php/Adam_Powell Adam Powell] owns four asparagus chias plus his bori on his neopets account, borovan. Joseph Enterprises, the company that made chia pets sued Neopets Inc. for using the name Chia as a species. The lawsuit never got anywhere.

The '''Chia''' is a short but joyful [[Neopet]] that was one of the original species available when the [[Neopets|website]] launched on 15 November 1999. A Chia, [[Thyassa]], was the very first Neopet created on the site, by [[Donna]] the day before launch day.

They will often be chased by [[Lupe]]s looking for a snack - perhaps because of this, Chias come in a wide range of exclusive fruit and vegetable [[colour]]s. They have more paint colours than any other Neopet, including Carrot, Blueberry, Apple, and Pea. Many of these fruit and vegetable colours can be obtained by feeding a Chia a [[Magical Chia Pop]]. [[Orange]] Chias used to be created with an ''Orange Paint Brush'', they now [http://www.neopets.com/newnt/index.phtml?section=editorial&week=110 must] be made with a Magical Chia Pop. Every time a Chia eats a chocolate food, they have a chance of changing colour to [[Chocolate]].
 
While [[Strawberry]] Chias have been featured in past [[Caption Competition]]s ([http://www.neopets.com/games/caption/caption_archive.phtml?place=943 #943] and [http://www.neopets.com/games/caption/caption_archive.phtml?place=984 #984]) circa 2006, they could not be painted that colour until 22 November 2013.
 
The only Chias featured in the [[Neopets Trading Card Game]] are [[Hubrid Nox]] and [[Florg]], who are associated with the elements of Dark/Fire and Earth, correspondingly.
