A Disease is a sickness that can be contracted by a Neopet. When sick, Neopets continuously to lose hit points and happiness, and they are unable to fight in the Battledome. Diseases are often caused by Random Events or by ingesting certain harmful food items. A few weapons have the ability to inflict diseases in the Battledome, and specific chance-based games, such as the Wheel of Excitement and the Qasalan Expellibox, can also make a Neopet sick.
There are currently 36 known diseases. Each disease has a specific set of associated curative items, and in order to cure a disease, the user must use an appropriate item on the affected Neopet. Curative items can be purchased at the Neopian Pharmacy in Neopia Central, Remarkable Restoratives in Shenkuu, and Lost Desert Medicine in the Lost Desert. Cures bought at the Neopian Pharmacy are always guaranteed to work, while cures bought at Remarkable Restoratives and Lost Desert Medicine have a chance of being ineffective. The Healing Springs can also sometimes heal sick Neopets.

Epidemics[edit]
Itchy Scratchies epidemic[edit]
On 6th March 2001, there was an outbreak of Itchy Scratchies at the Money Tree. Any pets which visited it had a high chance of being infected. The epidemic was brought under control later the same day, and the Water Faerie from the Healing Springs offered to cure those she could.
Scourgies pandemic[edit]
On April Fool's Day 2011, the Scourgies pandemic was released. The highly contagious disease was discovered at 1:03:56 am NST, the Pharmacy releasing information about how many Neopets started to have fungus growing all over them, as well as itchiness, dizziness, and muscle aches. Cures could be distributed to Neopets the player did not own from the hospital.
Trivia[edit]
- On August 24, 2002, the Wheel of Excitement began to give Sneezles to Neopets. This was a done a day after Meuka became a challenger in Defenders of Neopia, allowing users to gain access to fight him.
- The price of the cure of the chosen disease in the Wheel of Excitement always increase tenfold or higher during the time the disease is given due to high demand.
