The Battledome is a turn based game in which users can have their Neopets spar against either computer-controlled characters or other users' Neopets.   Battling is a very popular activity on the Neopets website, and there is an entire NeoBoard section dedicated to the game.  There are thousands of items that exist solely to be used in the Battledome, and plots often involve fighting in the Battledome against specific opponents.

The Battledome received its first major overhaul in 2012, with a comic book style graphics update and prizes given out after each one player match. The old Battledome was withdrawn on 17 October, and following a brief closed beta test, the open beta of the new system began on 9 November.
History
The Battledome began testing on November 15, 2000, with the one-player testing being added on April 20, 2001. On January 11, 2001, the Battledome was officially released as part of the Hunt for the Battledome plot.  The Battledome became wildly popular upon its release, and it remained largely unchanged for an entire decade.

Battling is a very popular activity on the Neopets site, and the most powerful equipment can cost millions of Neopoints to purchase. There is a full NeoBoard section dedicated to the game, and it is a common theme for Guilds. Plots often involve participation in the Battledome against plot specific one-player characters.
On October 17, 2012, the Battledome was closed down for renovations.  The new and improved Battledome began closed beta testing on October 26, 2012.  This new Battledome sported updated art, new comic-style animations, and a prize system to reward users for battling. The ability system was also completely overhauled and single player challengers were given multiple difficulty levels.  The improved Battledome was opened up to all users on November 9, 2012, and it has been active ever since.
