The Zafara is a kangaroo-like Neopet released on May 25, 2000 as the winner of a player-submitted Neopet competition. Zafaras originally resembled a cross between a ferret and a Chinese dragon, but were later redesigned on February 27, 2001. They now look like crosses between a kangaroo and a rabbit. In the Neopets TCG, they are associated with the element of Light.

Overview

The Zafara is said to bring good luck to those who treat them well. According to a Neopet profiles screensaver, Zafaras are some of the most sensitive and artistic inhabitants of Neopia. Most Zafaras spend a lot of time playing alone when young, but often grow up to be famous musicians, painters and poets.

Zafaras primarily have three spikes on their back, but this changes in accordance with different colours and characters. According to the information on an old default Zafara petpage, these spikes were protective fins and used for defence. Zafaras have an incredible hearing range, but they do not have a good sense of smell. Due to their powerful hind legs, the Zafara has a jumping ability unlike other Neopets. Zafaras have an innate ability to create fire (possibly a reference to their original dragonlike appearance) as made apparent with their level 2 Battledome ability Zafara Flame.

Battledome

In the Battledome, Zafaras have no natural resistances, however they do have six species abilities:

• Zafara Strike - Attack: 1 - 3 x Physical, 2 - 3 x Fire; Defence: none; available from level 1;
• Zafara Flame - Attack: 1 - 2 x Fire; Defence: none; available from level 2;
• Zafara Leap - Attack: 2 Air, 2 Earth; Defence: none; available from level 14;
• Zafara Slam - Attack: 1 - 2 x Physical; Defence: none; available on Zafara Day only
• Zafara Block - Attack: unknown; Defence: unknown; available on Zafara Day only
• Zafara Screech - Attack: 2 Air, 2 Light; Defence: none; available on Zafara Day only

There are also eleven pieces of equipment that can only be used by a Zafara.
