Noob is the conjugation of the word "Newbie", and n00b is the leet restructuring of it to take into account the zeros-for-o transformation. N00b, as opposed to "newbie" is usually used as an insult, with the intention of the subject of the term being referred to as someone who is not only new to the game but also immature and/or naive. The term is often used to mean "stupid" for this reason.  n00b is written in a number of different ways, include noob, newb, and nub.  Because of the continuing evolution of leet, new ways of speeling n00b frequently pop up.

Common Usage
A lousy player beyond all levels. A n00b is the constant bane of all mature Neopets users. While n00bs are not necessarily, as the name may suggest, new players to Neopets, it is sometimes taken, incorrectly, as such - a n00b does not become as they are based on their experience in the game, but on how they play it.

Spamming N00bs
A spamming n00b is one who spams, by being consistently off topic or posting nonsense or defamatory content, usually on the Neoboards but also via Neomail. These are often noted for their extensive use Chatspeak or full leet. They are found on all boards but are highly concentrated on the newbie boards, as are all n00bs.

Item n00bs
These n00bs ask (often unsolicited) to borrow or have a rare Item, often one which is expensive or provides an avatar, for their own benefit without wishing to provide a service in return, or for a Neopet under the same circumstances. On the rare event that they do receive the item or neopet they wish to have, they will usually refuse to return it and cease contact with the owner. They are found mostly on the Avatar, Battledome, and Help Neoboards, but are known to appear across the site and in Neomails.
