A Meowclops

The Meowclops is a cat-like Spooky Petpet with one eye. It can see everything including that which is hidden, however cannot tell how far away it is and probably doesn't know what to do with it. Its name is a portmanteau of meow - onomatopœia for the sound cats make - and cyclops - a one-eyed being, originally a one-eyed giant.

The Meowclops was introduced and retired on October 11, 2002 when it changed from a Cyclopian into its present day form. This and the fact owning a Meowclops can get you an avatar, have caused prices to raise, and now start from 700K Neopoints in the Trading Post as of August 2006.

The Petpet is featured in Sophie's Stew as power-up giver and item catcher, and in Neopets: The Darkest Faerie and as a playable character in Petpet Adventures: The Wand of Wishing. It can also be combined in the Cooking Pot with a Slorg to form a Slorgclops.

Plot summary

Tale of Woe

Main Article: Tale of Woe

Sophie the Swamp Witch's Meowclops was used as a guinea pig while developing the potion to reverse the effects Mr. Krawley's potion - Hissi Oil - had on Neovia. During the course of these experiments, the Meowclops lost almost all its hair, developed an additional, Bearog head, transformed into a part-Meowclops imitation of Dr. Sloth, and was turned into a piece of cubist art. The final potion - which did not alter the Meowclops - was used, but was not complete until combined with a flower found by Gilly in The Meepit Oaks Sanitorium for the Psychologically Fragile.

Cyclopian

A Cyclopian

Before the Meowclops became the Meowclops, it was known as a Spooky Petpet named Cyclopian. It resembles a cyclops in both name and appearance. It was one of the less popular Petpets in Neopets' early years, which is why it was among the Petpets getting an "update" on October 11, 2002. Like the others, it was immediately retired after the change.

It is not impossible to still own a Cyclopian. Any Petpet who was attached to a Neopet at the time of the change will stay the same. It will revert to the new version if it is removed, which means only a very few people still have a Cyclopian.
