"Everything is a game. A vile, evil, delightful game."

Eliv Thade was an evil Kacheek who prided himself on being able to solve any puzzle. He was driven mad by the one puzzle he could not solve, and now haunts his castle as a spectre in the game The Castle of Eliv Thade.

It is not known how he acquired his trademark sewn-on patch of white skin around his left eye, which is large and red, although it is often used to identify him. TNT once said in the Neopian Times' editorial that he had an accident with a sciccor when he was young, but this most likely was just a joke.

Etymology

Because of Eliv's obsession with anagrams, it has been suggested that his unusual name may be one. Possible anagrams produced from this name include "Live Hated" and "Evil Death", possible references to his obsession with the unsolved puzzle; "Evade Hilt", which may be a reference to the use of a sword in his game to escape; "Hate Devil" and "Veiled Hat".

History

Writing puzzles from his home in the Haunted Woods as a profession, Eliv's favourite hobby in life was solving the puzzles of any that was brought to him, instantly. Many brought him puzzles in the hope of producing the one he couldn't solve, and to go down in history as the one who bested Eliv Thade, but it was only when one of his servants brought him the longest and most complex puzzle Eliv had ever worked on.

He could not solve it. He would spend months in his castle's libraries, pouring over books in the hope of finding the answer, but to no avail. During this time, the servant would taunt Eliv, asking him if he knew the answer, which would send the Kacheek off in a fit of rage.

It was his obsession with the puzzle, that lasted years, which would send Eliv insane. His servants left the castle for their own safety, and it fell into disrepair. Still, Eliv agonised over the answer, until he died.

Without an answer, Eliv returned as a ghost to haunt his home, and set fiendishly difficult anagrams to anyone who would enter, including poor Gilly.
