The NeoDex is based on the wiki engine (''which some claim stands for "What I Know Is." although wiki.com shares that wikiwiki is hiwian for fast - both meanings tell you something about the why and how of a wiki''). People that visit the site can partake actively in the articles that appear here, and add little bits of information here and there until finally, after so many contributions from hundreds of different users, a comprehensive article on the topic is available.
The NeoDex is based on the [[Wikipedia:Wiki|wiki]] system of [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia|Wikipedia]], containing articles anyone can edit. People around the world who visit are empowered to add/remove/edit information on the articles here to create a more comprehensive article. '''Everyone''' is an editor of the NeoDex.

In other words, visitors to this site are empowered to add/remove/edit anything they want. '''You''', me and ''they'' are all editors as well as readers. Thus, we need your help.  If you can type and know anything about Neopets, feel free to contribute to the this free Neopets encyclopedia by editing, saving and doing whatever it is you want. It's all fair game. For more help, see

What is the NeoDex?

The NeoDex is an online encyclopedia filled with knowledge about Neopets, the online virtual pet simulation game popular around the world. Ever since its creation on August 17, 2005, it has aimed to become the most in-depth, comprehensive and articulate database on the Internet which has anything to do with Neopets.

The NeoDex is based on the wiki system of Wikipedia, containing articles anyone can edit. People around the world who visit are empowered to add/remove/edit information on the articles here to create a more comprehensive article. Everyone is an editor of the NeoDex.

How can I help?

There are several ways you can help expand the NeoDex, the most basic of which is correcting spelling and grammar errors. But know there are no limits to what and how much you can edit (unless an article is Protected). You are encouraged to be bold and add data in as large quanities as you can, collaborating with other users in our goal.

You do not need to fear accidentally damaging NeoDex when you add or improve information, as other users are always around to advise or correct errors, and the Wikipedia encyclopedia software, known as MediaWiki, is designed to allow easy reversal of editorial mistakes. If you need to learn about wiki coding, read the MediaWiki User's Guide (to learn about bold and italic text and other wiki knowledge), or test what you know in the sandbox. For help on which direction to take in your editting, visit the Construction page for links to sections of the NeoDex which can help you in your editting.

Are there rules to follow?

Technically there are no rules, but there are unspoken rules of decency and etiquette which all users are expected to follow. As Neopets has a large children audience, use of obscene or defamatory language (swearing or other R-Rated material) is prohibited. Vandalizing an article (deleting content or adding lots of gibberish) is also frowned upon, and hurts the community which works hard to create the articles contained here. Should such actions take place, administrators will block the offender's IP address.

For a quick understanding of some of these rules, read Wikipedia's "Wikiquette" section, which covers a lot of information on what is and isn't acceptable on a wiki. While some of the suggestions offered are relevant only to Wikipedia, many of them apply to any wiki and should be taken to heart.
