Imperial Exam is a puzzle game released on August 31, 2007.

The imperial examination is starting, and everyone wants to be a top scholar! Examination seats are limited, though, so only those who are qualified can enter to take the exam. However, there are some unqualified Neopians trying to enter. You and your guards are watching the gate. You will spot which Neopets are qualified and which are not. Those who are unqualified must leave.

There are two main categories: one group of Neopians will say the correct word in a speech bubble, while the other group is made up of unqualified citizens whose speech bubble contains a misspelt word. There is a long queue; you are given a time period of 60 seconds to let as many qualified scholars in for each level as you can. If you let an unqualified Neopet enter, you lose a chance. When all your chances are used up, you will be fired!

Press the DOWN arrow key to chase away the unqualified Neopians. Press the UP arrow key to let the qualified scholars enter the gate.

There will be a total of five levels. As the levels increase, more scholars are needed to fill the examination hall. This will require you to react faster and faster as the level increases.

Shenkuu is a mountainous land far North of Altador in Neopia. It was made available on September 8, 2006 after the Cyodrake's Gaze plot. Like the name suggests, Shenkuu is a Chinese themed world, although it takes its design from both China and Japan. Shenkuu has been unknown to Neopians for centuries, only to be revealed by the crew of the Cyodrake's Gaze after they received help from users. Its citizens are cautious of visitors, though this isn't explained why, but nonetheless they have welcomed visitors from all over Neopia, spreading their trade (as it is a merchant town).

Yooyuball
Joining the Altador Cup in 2007, Shenkuu is regarded by Altador Cup enthusiasts as an exciting young team with plenty of promise, but they were expected not to make much noise in the tournament, having too many holes in their team. The inexperience of goalie Xana DiLanche, the unpredictable health of defender Turo Rafels, and the team's overall lack of tournament play are all serious concerns. However, the stunning talent of young forwards Mirsha Grelinek and Foltaggio may cause a few upsets.

*Foltaggio - Right Forward
*Larcy Phu - Right Defender
*Mirsha Grelinek - Left Forward, Team Captain
*Turo Rafels - Left Defender (2007)
*Antola Maeir - Left Defender (2008)
*Xana DiLanche - Goalkeeper

The team surpassed expectations by claiming 3rd place in the 2007 Cup after defeating Krawk Island in the 3rd place game.

Trivia
*The name Shenkuu was first revealed on the Kou-jong game page accidentally at its first release.
*A Neopedia article about Shenkuu was released on September 30, 2006, but wasn't uploaded into the servers until October 2, 2006. When users clicked the link in New Features until this point, they encountered a page saying that Neopedia article didn't exist.
The Search for Princess Lunara is a puzzle game released on September 14, 2007.

Oh no! Princess Lunara has been kidnapped! The Emperor has ordered all the bridges that lead to Shenkuu's docks be secured to prevent the kidnapper from escaping with the princess, and the Palace guards are scrambling to close them off.

You fancy yourself a bit of an amateur sleuth, and you arrive on the scene, all ready to save the princess! Unfortunately, the Palace guards aren't allowing anyone who can't answer their questions to cross the bridges. Hopefully, your knowledge of Neopia and its inhabitants is enough to help you find the princess. You can also bring up to two of your friends along for help.

There are three guards, each an expert in their subject matter: All About Neopia, Neopian Culture, and Notable Neopians. Pick a guard and you will be asked a question from that category. To answer, simply buzz in using your keyboard. If you can answer the guards' questions, you'll be one step closer to solving this mystery in the mist and winning the generous reward. If you can't, you might end up having to pay out a few bribes to get past the guards…or you might be mistaken for the kidnapper and taken to prison!

The Gelert is a dog-like creature that was added to Neopets on January 25, 2000 as the Polypup.

On July 19th, 2000 the Polypup's name changed to Gelert and its look was updated, but that would not be the last time the Gelert changed its look.

On November 2nd, 2001 TNT added the Pick-The-Gelert Competition which featured 5 new designs for members to pick from. Both Gelerts #5 and #2 officially won (although the joke design, #3, actually had the most votes) so the two designs were combined and the final version (released on 29th November 2001) has not changed since.

About the Gelert
The Gelert is a distant cousin to the Lupe and are the embodiment of all that is fun and goofy.

They are joyous creatures, with a love of anyone and everything. If you are suffering from a long day at work, there is nothing better than coming home to a Gelert, who will do anything possible to make your day a happier day.

Legend and myth have been written about the brave deeds of Gelerts and such stories have made Gelerts a household name. If anything, their love of children make them excellent baby sitters. However, don't let their fun-loving nature fool you; like their Lupe cousins they're fiercely protective of their friends and family.

The Grave of the Greyhound
The Gelert is said to be based on the dog in the poem 'The Grave of the Greyhound' or 'Beth Gelert', where a greyhound, called Gelert, was slain by his master when he discovered the dog, covered in blood, at his infant's cradle. It later turned out that the blood was not of the master's son but that of a wolf who had tried to kill the boy, and that Gelert had really been protecting his master's heir.

A retelling of the story can be found here - many variations of it exist around the world. There is a page on the Neopets site itself dedicated to the story.

Colours
As of March 2008, the Gelert can come in 42 different colours...
All extensions start at level 0, and new extensions are available with the more rooms add.
* The Anubis's description, which states that the petpet will "try not to judge you in any way," is most likely a reference to an Ancient Egyptian myth in which the god Anubis would weigh a person's heart after death to judge whether or not they had led a just life.

A Sponsor Game is a game created as an advertisement for products in the real world, paid for by companies. Some sponsor games may have Neopets starring in them, while others feature characters and thems specifically from the sponsored product. Because they are not official games, they have no high score tables, but a high score will still be posted in the users high score list. Sponsor games are featured on the site for a limited time only, after which they are removed. Over time, sponsor games have made up over half of all total games playable on Neopets, and a list of all of them can be seen here.

Trivia
*The Top Gamer avatar can only be acquired when 250 different high scores are tallied for games. As there are less than 250 official Neopets games, playing sponsor games are the only way to gain this avatar.

Sophie is a Green Ixi witch introduced on June 16, 2005 through the Neopets TCG Lost Desert expansion and shown fully in Neopets: The Darkest Faerie on November 15, 2006.

A former citizen of Neovia, she was safely taken out of the village when it became cursed and was given a hut in a Haunted Woods swamp by Ilere in order to survive. She is the daughter of Edmund and Alice, and the sister of Bruno and Reginald. She currently lives alone in that same hut surrounded by Meowclops, bordering the lands of Meridell and Neovia (also considered Werelupe Woods). She makes it a habit to scare Neopets away from her and sometimes even turn them into Petpets or Petpetpets. Though crude in her actions, Sophie is generally a good character, but wishes to be left alone.

Sophie is not the most careful of witches and mixes potions in her game Sophie's Stew, with the help of her Meowclops.

Plot summary
Neopets: The Darkest Faerie
Neopets: The Darkest Faerie

When Tormund and Roberta came to Werelupe Woods to fight the Werelupe King for Illusen's Charm, they meet Sophie, who knows they are going to the Werelupe Den and wil help them get past the giant skull guarding it if they find her a raw Wartroot. After retrieving the Wartroot from an underground cavern in the swamp, Sophie tells a story of how she made a necklace to get into the Werelupe Burrows for a young Neopet. He used the necklace to try and steal the Werelupe King's treasure, but got buried alive. Instead of making a new one, Sophie sends them to the location of the old one at his crypt.

The Tale of Woe
The Tale of Woe

In the Gypsy Camp of the Haunted Woods, users are told the story of a time when Gilly passed while she was lost in the woods, and told a story herself: Long ago in Neovia lived the family Edmund and Alice and their 3 children, who were Bruno, Reginald and Sophie. Their family was the first to fall in the trap set by Mr. Krawley, who offered mysterious potions to all of the inhabitants of Neovia. Every single person was lured into it, convinced that their one big problem would be resolved, and were soon cursed by their desires. The rioting inhabitants were furious and blamed the family when Mr. Krawley disappeared. Edmund ordered Reginald to take Sophie into the Woods. There they stumbled upon the Ilere, who Sophie decided to go with of her own free will despite Reginald's worry, saying she felt safe with her.

After Gilly was told the story, she found Neovia and an abandoned house, where she discovered a silver locket. taking it to the Deserted Fairground, she asked around for information on it, and eventually returned to Neovia to discover a spooky shack with Sophies Rocking Chair at the front.

Trivia
*On April 20, 2006, Sophie was featured in Better Than You, scoring 1250 Sophie's Stew. The reward was a Shadow Ixi Plushie. She was quoted saying...<blockquote>So... you think you can beat me at my own game, do you? Why, even my Meowclops could beat you. Now shoo! I'm trying out a new potion and I don't want to be bothered by your silly notions about beating my score!</blockquote>She was featured again on February 20, 2008, scoring 675 in Sophie's Stew. The reward was a Meowclops Bed. She was quoted saying...<blockquote>What? What do you mean you want to challenge me? Oh, you want to help me make 'stew'? Well, why didn't you say so? Get in here and start putting these ingredients into the cauldron. If you assist me in the successful creation of my next potion, I may not even turn you into a Mortog when we're done...<br><br>but we both know that's not very likely.</blockquote>
*During the Random Theme of Sophie the Swamp Witch in the New Features on April 6, 2006, many Sophie related items were added, including the game Sophie's Stew. Later the same year another Random Theme called Sophie and Friends occurred on December 6, 2006, which featured even more items, a selection in the Art Gallery, new NeoGreetings, and an Advent Calendar animation showing an old Christmas gathering she and the rest of the family shared in Neovia before it was cursed.
*The Neopet TCG card Sophie says she is a hero, contrary to the card Sophie the Swamp Witch which states she is a villain. This change may have come about due to the recent The Tale of Woe plot.
*An Avatar featuring Sophie can be gained by visiting the Halloween Paint Brushes page. An unreleased version of this avatar exists in the Neopets server, but only one is officially released.
The Wocky is a cat-like Neopet, released on (need date). Like Scorchios, Wockies are extremely outgoing, friendly and adventuresome. Loving the great outdoors and the feel of the wind on a sailing ship out on the seas, these Neopets, along with Scorchio are usually the reason for treasure discoveries.
A Wocky is a cat-like Neopet, released on (need date). Like Scorchios, Wockies are extremely outgoing, friendly and adventuresome. Loving the great outdoors and the feel of the wind on a sailing ship out on the seas, these Neopets, along with Scorchio are usually the reason for treasure discoveries. Unafraid and brave, a Wocky is a perfect and powerful member of any battle or adventure.

The Ghost Lupe is a restless Lupe Ghost who prowls Mystery Island, seeking revenge against the dangerous natives who kidnapped his bride two centuries ago. He is believed to be named Sylva, the first mate of a ship sent to colonize Mystery Island. As the only officer who survived a the a ship wreck with one third of the passengers, he kept a log of their attempts to survive against the natives, witch doctors, and a fiery spirit in the jungles. His last entry detailed a small group of survivors being captured by natives during the night, and that he "must rescue her", her being his bride (or so it's believed). After this, there are no more entries in the journal.

Though he has been known to help Neopets at times (healing them fully in the form of a Random Event), he is still considered dangerous, and best left alone.

Plot Summary
Defenders of Neopia Series 1
:Main Article: Defenders of Neopia

A Chia and his Tigermouse, Squeaky, move into a haunted Neohome at 131 Soup Alley of Neopia Central, where the Ghost Lupe was residing. During the night, the Ghost Lupe began to levitate objects and throw them at the new residents, and then finally appearing before them, chasing them out of the NeoHome. Judge Hog returned and fought the Ghost Lupe, catching him in a ghost trap.

Battledome
The Ghost Lupe can be found on Neohome 131 Soup Alley, which would seem an obscure area to find a battledome challenger, but the address is prominently visible in the Defenders of Neopia comic. Users then go to the Neohome site and refresh once, should be challenged by the Ghost Lupe.

The Ghost Lupe is fought in the Island Arena, and has the Sponsor Abilities Aura, Frost, Inertia, Psychic Attack and Scorch.

Quotes
*The Ghost Lupe was originally known as the Ghost Lion, before it was decided he was to be remodled as "lions do not exist in Neopia". When The Neopets Team redid the character, they asked in New Features for the history books to "gloss over" this.
*Random Events associated with the Ghost Lupe...
**The Ghost Lupe growls and suddenly all your Neopets are healed back to max hit points!
**The Ghost Lupe growls 'My what tasty Neopets you have!'
**The Ghost Lupe growls 'Its rumoured that Neopets that go to Mystery Island never return!!'
**The Ghost Lupe growls 'If you have a Chia, Ill be your best friend... they are so tasty'

After trying starting a conversation with Lily, which resulted in him being hit by Oscar, Bruno wished he could be stronger and fitter. After taking Mr. Krawley's potion his wish came true. He recommends this miracle potion to his family, whose wishes are also granted, and soon the entire town is purchasing potions from Mr Krawley.

However, the potion worked too well and the town's desires became horrible distorted. Bruno became a monstrous Gelert, and, not finding Mr. Krawley, the entire town held what had happened to them as Bruno's, and by extension, his family's, fault. While Bruno made a distraction, his brother Reginald took Sophie, one of the few who did not want the potion, to the forest to find her protection in the form of the Earth Faerie Ilere. Bruno was chased from the town, and the towns people called on The Spirit of Slumber to remove the curse, but to terrible consequences: they only appeared in the town, as spectral, unreacting forms of their former selves.

Ten years later, Gilly, when fleeing from Bruno's sister Sophie who had grew into a powerful swamp witch, entered Bruno's cave and set a trap for him, scared of the monstrous thing that stalked in the dark. Bruno joins Gilly and convinces Sophie to try and restore Neovia. After finding the name of the Spirit of Slumber in life, they call upon him and he undoes his spell on the Neovians. They return, however, in their monster forms.

After some trials, which included Bruno having to endure to some less-than-desirable side-effects of testing several potions, the correct reversing formula is prepared and given to the town in their water supply. Bruno, however, when he took the potion, did not revet back to his unaltered self: he had been under the effect of Mr. Krawley's concoction too long.

Trivia
*During the Random Theme of Sophie and Friends in the New Features on December 6, 2006, a drawing tutorial of Bruno was added, and the Advent Calendar animation showed an old Christmas gathering he and the rest of the family shared in Neovia before it was cursed.

She is the daughter of Edmund and Alice, and siblings to Bruno and Reginald.
