The '''Altador Plot''' is the first official [[Plot]] of 2006 on [[Neopets]], involving the most recently added city of [[Altador]]. Began on March 28, 2006 and could officially be finished on June 2, 2006, but can still be completed by other users who have either just joined Neopets or haven't completed it yet.

==Plot Summary==

The plot began with a dark [[Hall of Heroes]], a mostly empty Book of Ages, and an [[Altador]] with no recall of its own history. The gears to open the hall's ceiling and let in the light had seized shut, but with some oil the participant managed to set them working again. The participant discovered a staircase leading up to an observatory, and an astronomy club opened shortly after. Equipped with a telescope from the club, the night sky was open for observation.

A few days later, clues started to appear in parts of Altador, clues that showed a configuration of points, which conformed to the heavens. The participant searched the night sky for the constellations each clue pointed to, and after each one was identified, and Altador's history begins to return, piece by piece, as a chapter in the Book of Ages. There were total of 12 constellations, one for each of the founders of Altador.

During this, the archivist [[Lenny]] realises that his entire archive is devoid of history books. Realising that some potent magic must be hiding their past, suspicion begins to fall on each hero in turn.

These clues were put in place by [[Jerdana]], the Protector. She and [[King Altador]] discovered a plot to erase Altador's history and replace it with a version where [[The Darkest Faerie]] founded the city, so as to eliminate resistance to her take over. In an attempt to save the city from the Betrayer, they blocked the citizens' memories, including their own, and The Darkest Faerie of her plan to change history. She laid down a complex magical puzzle for some determined soul to solve, someone who would not be effected by the memory spell and could question where the history had gone. Solving the final puzzle destroyed The Darkest Faerie's statue and restores the memories of the people of Altador.

After collecting these prizes, the user can return the next day and recieve a prize from King Altador, similar to a [[Dailies|Daily]]. On the chat boards, many Neopians have expressed diasppointment with the meager prizes.

The Editorial of the [[Neopian Times]] [http://www.neopets.com/ntimes/index.phtml?section=editorial&issue=253 issue 253] stated users would be "mini-rewarded for [their] mini-efforts on the mini-plot", implying the prizes may not be as grand as previous plots. The same editorial states the plot was intended to run long so many users could participate. It's unknown how long the prizes will be given out and how long users will be able to complete the Altador Plot to recieve prizes.

Islandberry Crunch Cereal and its accompanying mascot were announced in the New Features on [http://www.neopets.com/newfeatures.phtml?arr=2006-01-16 January 19, 2006]. As part of the promotion for the cereal, Neopets also created an area where each of your pets can consume a free bowl of cereal once a day. This area is how most players come to recognize Jake.

Below is the text of the "Jake Story" section of the Islandberry Crunch publicity area.

Meet Jake, a Kougra whose knowledge and skill have made him Mystery Island's greatest explorer. Whether studying ruins or searching for treasure, there's no challenge too great for Jake! Once, when he was still young, Jake overheard some Elders discussing a magical amulet buried deep in the jungle which could life an ancient spell that had cursed their village. However, the risk of going after the amulet was far too great. What would happen to the village if the Elders failed to return? Such dangers meant nothing to Jake. Determined to find the amulet, he packed some supplied and headed for the jungle...

... With only the position of the rising and setting sun to guide him, Jake headed deeper and deeper into the jungle. After a few days, his body ached and his supply of food and water was starting to run out. As his mission entered its fourth evening, the young Kougra began to search for a place to settle in for the night. Upon his arrival at a clearing in the thick jungle brush, Jake unrolled a straw mat that he'd brought along on his expedition and laid down to sleep.

The next morning, Jake was awoken by a loud rumbling sound. Looking around in a sleepy daze, Jake half-expected to find some ferocious monster towering above him. However, he soon realized that the roaring was coming from the pit of his belly. When he reached into his knapsack, though, the only thing Jake found was the handfull of crumbs that a colony of Mootix had left behind. Cursing his miserable luck, Jake reluctantly admitted to himself that his search for the amulet would have to wait until he'd been able to round up some more food.

After hours of searching, the hungry young Kougra was still looking for a meal. Then, off in the distance, he gazed upon a sight that instantly made his mouth water with anticipation: an entire grove of Islandberry trees. Mmm, my favorite, Jake thought as he rushed toward his breakfast. However, just as he grasped an Islandberry bunch, Jake heard yet another loud rumble. This time it wasn't his belly, though; as he looked up, a towering shadow fell down on him.

Armed with nothing but a sturdy walking stick, the young explorer had no choice but to give the mighty beast a crack to the shins. Having momentarily stunned the monster with his fearlessness, the Kougra began feverishly looking for a place to run and hide. As Jake dashed in the direction of a far-off cave, the wounded creature hobbled slowly after him. Thankfully, the cave's opening was large enough for the Kougra to enter, but not big enough for his pursuer to follow.

Sitting in the cave, gasping for breath, Jake frantically tried to plan an escape. It was then, in this most desperate of hours, that Jake witnessed an incredible sight. As the mid-day sun passed above a tiny hole in the cave's roof, a beam of light shone down into the cave. With his hideout now bathed in glowing light, the Kougra gazed upon the object of his quest: the mighty amulet that had drawn him so deep into the jungle.

As Jake grabbed the powerful artifact, he noticed a narrow corridor in the back of the cave, just beyond the pedestal where the amulet had rested for years. With the roars of the snarling predator at his back, the Kougra explorer had no choice but to follow the corridor's path. Thankfully, the path led to an exit far away from the monster, allowing Jake to make a safe escape.

Upon his return, Jake was given a hero's welcome and a magnificent feast was held in his honour. Thanks to his daring discovery of the long-lost amulet, the dreaded curse was lifted and his village once again enjoyed peace and prosperity.

The '''Altador Cup''' was announced by [[Neopets]] on May 31, 2006, to commence one the June 2, 2006. It is a sporting event with teams from sixteen [[Neopian]] worlds participating.

The role of the user and the system of play is still unclear. It is believed that either players will be supporting (and maybe betting) on their team, or that they will be be playing as part of their team in a localised competition rather than a community-wide competition. Users could select the team they wish to join/support and change teams if they wish until June 8, 2006.

==Plot Summary==
On June 2 all teams from around Neopia gathered to practice for the games ahead of them, and countless Neopians gathered to watch their favorites take the field. Inbetween practices, most of the players would go and meet their fans, signing autographs. Five days later and the day before the games began, [[Kiko Lake]]'s Left Forward [[Holbie Pinnock]] was injured due to [[Relle Felson]]'s sling breaking and flying off into Holbie's head, taking him out of the games. [[Helmo Timm]], the one Holbie was replacing, immediately asked to be put back in the game to play, or Kiko Lake would likely not win their games.

On June 9 the first round matches of the Altador Cup tournament begun. Among the eight match ups, two showed to be very interesting. First was "The Moon vs. The Goons," or the [[Haunted Woods]] versus [[Kreludor]]. It was uncertain who would win, but it would be entertaining.

Second was [[Brightvale]] and Kiko Lake. With Kiko Lake suffering from a recent string of injuries fans were devastated to learn they were facing Brightvale in Round One, who are notorious for their roughhouse tactics. They were certainly going to take a cheap shot at Timm and put her back on the sidelines for good.

==Yooyuball==
The game played to win the Altador Cup is called Yooyu ball. Gameplay appears to be based on [[Wikipedia:Jai_alai|Jai alai]], where players carry a ball in a sling and charge down the field, trying to throw the ball into the other teams net to score a goal. The ball is actually a rolled up [[Petpet]] called a [[Yooyu]], a creature native to Altador.

There are a variety of different Yooyus that are used in each game, which gives the sport an unpredictable twist. For example, a team might alter its particular strategy depending on the type of Yooyu that's currently in play.

Before each game of Yooyuball begins, users choose the formation they want their players to stand in and select which direction the would like to move the ball down the field. Using the mouse, you point at the player you'd like to move around. This will select the player. The selected player can be guided around the field using your mouse. When a player has possession of the ball, click the left mouse button to throw the ball.

If a user wanted to unselect a player, they pressed the spacebar or the ''S'' key. When none of the players were selected, they can click anywhere on the field to move the closest player to the position they clicked on. To toggle between players, press the left and right arrow keys (or the ''A'' and ''D'' keys). To activate a player when toggling between them, press the spacebar. Press the Shift key to move your players back to their starting positions.

===Tournament Rules===
The Altador Cup Tournament consists of sixteen teams representing the lands of Neopia. Tournament play is single-elimination, which means that the team that wins a match moves on to the next round, while the team that loses is eliminated from all play. Sixteen teams are randomly seeded and matched up, and After the eight losing teams are eliminated the eight winning teams will again be randomly matched up and move on to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, four more teams will be eliminated while the remaining four will head to the semifinals. Semifinal play will determines which two teams will battle it out in the final match.

====The Committee====
The Altador Cup Committee is a group of officials who carefully examine each play, making sure that the rules of Yooyuball are followed. Players or fans who feel something needs to be reviewed can file a petition, and the committee will decide whether or not to rule on the matter. Once both sides of the issue are heard, the committee gathers in its private chambers to discuss the situation and then votes on an appropriate course of action.

While some might feel they are too strict, the committee's decisions play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of the game, and the committee members' actions are always motivated by a desire to protect the game's best interests.

==Team Rosters==
Sixteen [[Neopian]] worlds participated, each sending a team to compete in the Colleseum in Altador. There was also a seventeenth team from [[Jelly World]], who played as the practice team. While the players themselves are unknown, it's known the Goalkeeper is a Jelly [[Kougra]] and one of the forwards a Jelly [[Kau]].

Although they play in a 3-1-1 formation, teams are usually so exhausted from trying to slow down Nix and Volgoth that they usually don't have much energy to mount a counterattack of their own. When opponents do attempt to score, however, Koric does a decent (if unspectacular) job of trying to keep them in check.

The Chia is a lovable little character who is full of joy. Chia love exploring the land and making new friends.The name Chia may be related to the Chia Pet-like tufts of hair on top of their heads.

The very first Neopet, Thyassa, was "born" on November 14, 1999 (the day before the site was officially opened). Chias appear to be great favorites with Neopets staff and are available in a wide array of variations (not available to any other pet species) that look like fruits and vegetables. (For example, the Orange Chia looks like an actual orange instead of simply being orange in colour.) More recently, Neopets staff have added the Durian and the Carrot Chia. Chias are well known for being the food of Lupes, and perhaps that accounts for the many colours, or rather, flavours, of Chias.

The chia was one of the first neopet ever made and comes in the widest variety of colours of all the pets, including a range of fruit colours attained using [[Magical Chia Pops]]. [[Adam Powell]] owns four [[Asparagus]] chias plus his bori on his [[Neopets]] account, [http://www.neopets.com/randomfriend.phtml?user=borovan borovan].

Despite their popularity with the original creators, no recent merchandise based on the Chia has ever been made available. However, when Neopets merchandise was just starting to be released, there were Yellow Chia plushies and Purple Chia plushies. Lack of new merchandise may be due to a legal dispute among Neopets and Joseph Enterprises, Inc over the use of the name "Chia" (the Chia Pet).

Joseph Enterprises, the company that made Chia Pets, sued Neopets Inc. for using the name Chia as a species. The lawsuit never got anywhere. The first chia and therefore, first neopet ever made was [[Thyassa]] mentioned later in the wiki article. The Chia, while being Neopet's first [[Neopet]] is not the most common at all.
