'''8-Bit''' is one of the many [[colour]]s available to [[Neopet]]s and [[Petpet]]s. In general, 8-Bit pets resemble [[Wikipedia:Sprite_(computer_graphics)|game sprites]] from the [[Wikipedia:History of video game consoles (third_generation)|8-bit era]] of video games.

The 8-Bit colour for Neopets was released on March 22, 2011. Before [[Altador Cup VII], in which a Power-Up Potion was the top prize, the only way that users could change the colour of their Neopet to 8-Bit is by receiving a lucky zap from the [[Treasure Maps#Secret Laboratory|Lab Ray]].

'''Altador's [[Altador Cup|Yooyuball]] team''' boasts an airtight defence, allowing them to usually win with only one goal per game. During the 2006 season, they averaged the least amount of goals allowed per game coming into the Altador Cup, though it is questionable if they could generate enough scoring to stay in the tournament.

Having lost in Round One of the 2006 tournament, many were lead to believe Altador was out of practice after the thousand year hiatus, which prompted them to work hard during the following year's practices, exhibitions, and regular season matches, making them fighting fit and ready to prove the loss was a fluke. Team Captain [["Trapper" Remis]] cautioned the "so-called experts" that picking against them was madness, and was quoted telling the press, "After all, let's not forget who invented the game. No one's gonna stop us from taking back what's rightfully ours." But after placing 13th twice, 14th once, and then 15th and 17th three times, excuses were gone for the Altador team. However, in [[Altador Cup VI]], they finished behind only one other team in Slushie Slinger.

'''Darigan's Yooyuball team''' have few major weaknesses, although they have been criticized in the past for playing too easy a schedule during the regular season, and as a result are unprepared when the tournament comes. To fix this, Darigan Citadel relented and added more matches against a few of the better teams for the 2006 season. Due to this they didn't finish as high in the standings as they normally did, but it gave them the toughness to play in the games which mattered the most (or at least this is what the fans hoped). Their tactic paid off, and they managed to place 2nd in the [[Altador Cup]], ending their reputation as post-season underachievers.

Rather than rest, however, the Citadel's team made an upgrade for the ''Goalkeeper'', replacing the less-than-mobile [[Mungo Lifler]] with promising netminder [[Reshar Collifey]] for the 2007 season. And due to the success of the previous year's tactic, Darigan again faced a string of difficult teams for their regular schedule. Darigan was from the start considered the favourite of the [[Altador Cup 2007|2007 Altador Cup]], maintaining a position at the top of the leader-board for the round robin. In the finals it faced off against [[Roo Island#Yooyuball|Roo Island]]'s team and finally won the Cup on July 9th. However, they also fell to the curse of previous winner [[Haunted Woods]] and subsequent winner Roo Island to not be able to reach the standard again, placing seventh the following year and the year after that, although showing promise initially, placing seventh again after a round one loss to [[Mystery Island]].

Coming into [[Altador Cup V]], Darigan Citadel was favorite to win the Cup, so the expectations were high. Even though they were swept by [[Brightvale]] on day one, they roared back winning 15 of their next 17 games, soaring to the top of the standings. Ending the season with a record of 23-4-7, they were in 3rd place going into the finals, getting ready to face off against [[Lost Desert]]. Though they lost, they were able to beat [[Roo Island]] in round two to end the season with the bronze.

Going into [[Altador Cup VI]], many teams were on the watch for the Darigan crew, who were looking for a second win. However, they didn't manage to hold in first tier for long and ended the round-robin in the second tier. Losing to [[Tyrannia]] in the first finals round, they defeated [[Terror Mountain]] to secure 7th place, the 3rd time they have been in that spot.

Going into [[Altador Cup VII]], with a new style of tournament, there was some question whether or not the team would return to its former glory in Altador Cup II. However, they showed the same determination and power that they had in the early days of the Altador Cup, grabbing a multitude of sweeps. They especially looked strong at the fourth round, pulling off four sweeps in a row against [[Altador]], [[Tyrannia]], [[Krawk Island]], AND [[Maraqua]]. However, having faced [[Kreludor]] four times and lost all of them (the last of which was a sweep), they were forced back. Despite this weakness, they climbed back up to 4th.

Considering their team's fearsome nature, it may be hard to believe Darigan's players are avid practical jokers. "Frein's the worst one," forward Tandrak Shaye revealed. "He got his nickname, 'The Terror,' long before playing Yooyuball. You learn quick with that one -- if you need something from the kitchen, you'd best take your food with you, or else it will be tampered with. Make no mistake, however -- we're all business out on the field."

'''Meridell's [[Altador Cup|Yooyuball]] team''' is all about "speed", and is said to be described with that one word. Their superior conditioning allows them to wear down opponents with a relentless flurry of cuts and screens from the opening face-off until the end of a game. Their speed, however, masks the fact they aren't the most accurate or powerful shooters.

They began the 2006 tournament as one of the odds-on favourites to win, having run circles around [[Maraqua#Yooyuball|Maraqua]] in the first round, but "smashed their head on into a brick wall" when they faced [[Darigan]]'s defence in Round Two, finishing 17th. In [[Altador Cup II|2007]] Meridell fans hoped the replacement of reviled ''Left Forward'' [[Vitri Sitol]] with swift scorer [[Gregorgio Maille]] will not only give the team a much needed offensive boost, but also help improve their standing among fans around Neopia.

When the team in fact did worse, the demanding fans wanted more change, so [[Sir Pollonaire Freidl]] was replaced by [[Yoris Obbles]]. This was just the boost they needed, finishing 5th overall in [[Altador Cup III|2008]]. Needless to say expectations were high for Team Meridell in [[Altador Cup V]], but they were a disappointment, finishing 11th overall. Although in [[Altador Cup V|2010]], they fought with [[Roo Island]] for the final spot in the finals, but just fell short, entering the playoffs in 5th place, and leaving in 8th.

[[Altador Cup VI]] was very similar for the Meridell team. Again, they fell just short of first tier to end the round-robin in 5th. However, they managed to defeat both [[Terror Mountain]] and [[Tyrannia]] to secure 5th place, the best they've done since Altador Cup III.

As a team hungry for victory, this team was a favorite to win going into [[Altador Cup VII]]. However, with the new format of gameplay, it was debatable as they have gone without a roster change for the 4th straight year. However, their strength was hardly matched, especially in the second and fourth rounds, where 5 out of the 6 matches were sweeps. Hardly any teams were able to counter the Meridellian's strengths in Yooyuball, with only [[Kiko Lake]], [[Kreludor]], [[Mystery Island]], and [[Brightvale]] avoiding a defeat in that event. However, they lacked a same power as Kreludor and fell in a tiebreaker match against Mystery Island for 2nd, which they lost, placing them in 3rd.

As a sporting event, eighteen teams as 2010 from the lands of [[Neopia]] gathered in [[Altador]] to compete in the sport of Yooyuball for the Altador Cup trophy. During the inaugural Altador Cup, the tournament took place between June 1, 2006 and August 4. During the second Altador Cup, the plot lasted from June 1, 2007 to July 9. The third annual Altador Cup commenced on June 12, 2008 and ended on July 17. The fourth annual Altador Cup commenced on June 2, 2009, and ended on July 5th, 2009.

The game played to win the Altador Cup is called '''Yooyuball'''. Gameplay appears to be based on [[Wikipedia:Jai_alai|jai alai]] and [[wikipedia:lacrosse|lacrosse]], where players carry a ball in a sling and charge down the field, trying to throw the ball into the other team's net to score a goal. The ball is actually a rolled up [[Petpet]] called a [[Yooyu]], a creature native to Altador. There are a variety of different Yooyus used in the game, which gives the sport an unpredictable twist, requiring a team to alter its strategy depending on the type of Yooyu currently in play.

Yooyuball plays as a [[Wikipedia:Adobe Flash|flash]] game, where users can play with use of the mouse and keyboard. Before each game of Yooyuball begins, users choose the formation they want their players to stand in and select which direction they would like to move the ball down the field. Using the mouse, users point at the player they want to move around, which will select the player. The selected player can be guided around the field using the mouse. When a player has possession of the ball, clicking the left mouse button throws the ball.

If a user wanted to deselect a player, they pressed the space bar or the ''S'' key. When none of the players were selected, they can clicked anywhere on the field to move the closest player to the position they clicked on. To toggle between players, users press the left and right arrow keys (or the ''A'' and ''D'' keys). Users can activate a player when toggling between them by pressing the space bar. Pressing the Shift key to moves players back to their starting positions.

A new rule was added on June 24, 2006, which would make the Yooyu jump from a ''Keeper's'' hands if it stayed there longer than 5 seconds. It is believed this was implemented because too many users were scoring a single goal then letting the ''Keeper'' hold onto the ball for the remainder of play, scoring an automatic win.

Between each goal, a cutscene is played, showing either the goal, the crowd, or - added in 2007 - the Yooyuball selection machines beneath the arena. While the cutscene is playing, game time is still used up, but a 'continue' button appears after a short delay allowing the user to skip most of the animation. An animation accompanies the introduction of each Yooyu to the field, also, but this can be skipped using the space bar.

For the first four years, the Altador Cup Tournament consisted of sixteen teams representing the lands of [[Neopia]]. Following the introduction of [[Shenkuu]], one team sat out each year to keep the numbers even, until the discovery of [[Moltara]] allowed a full roster of eighteen teams to play in Altador Cup V. Users could only support one team at a time, and could only switch between teams in the first competition, between rounds.

The first team to cancel participation was [[Kreludor]] for Altador Cup II - in a statement by [[Derlyn Fonnet]], this was due to a malfunctioning gravity generator leading to [[wikipedia:Spaceflight osteopenia|reduced "muscle and bone" density]]. The following year they returned to the competition, but [[Kiko Lake]] could not participate due to travel issues. [[Brightvale]] was unable to participate in Altador Cup IV as [[King Hagan]] thought it would make the country harder to govern.

An additional team is available each year as the practice team, from [[Jelly World]]. While the members of the team are unknown, it's known the ''Goalkeeper'' is a Jelly [[Kougra]] and the forwards a Jelly [[Kau]] and [[Usul]].

So far [[Lutari Island]] has not participated in any of the Altador Cups, though two [[Lutari]] have.

==Slushie Slinger==

Added in the 2007 games, '''Slushie Slinger''' is an game users could play for lower points besides playing Yooyuball. Users play the role of a Red [[Tuskaninny]] [[Slushie Slinger Waitress|waitress]] at the Slushie Concession Stand, and must serve impatient fans (Red [[Nimmo]], Purple [[Tonu]], Yellow [[Ogrin]], etc.) their [[slushie]]s while Yooyuball games play. Depending on what team the user joined, the Slushie Concession Stand would be the team's official slushie stand. Players would lose a life every time an empty slushie bottle fell to the floor or if the customers reached the end of the counter without being served.

Added in the 2007 games, '''Make Some Noise''' is an game users could play for lower points besides playing Yooyuball. Assuming the role of the [[Techo Fanatic]], users must cheer as loud as they can by tapping two randomly chosen keys together, raising the sound meter, for as long as they can in 30 seconds, then (though this is not necessary) pressing the spacebar before the time runs out. Depending on what team the user joined, the Techo Fanatic would be seen wearing that teams shirt, and cheering for them.

Shootout Showdown is a new game in the [[Altador Cup IV|2009 games]]. You take control of a Yooyuball player, trying to score goals against the opponents Keeper. The aim is to score 5 goals as quickly as possible, within 60 seconds, without missing or letting the keeper save your shots.

Unlike regular plots where the plot was written by The Neopets Team, the plot was directed by the collective users on Neopets, and how well they played together in each of their selected teams. A plot summary was written after play to act out who won in each cause. Also, each year had their own methods of participation, and how the plot would progress.

Along with the release of the Altador Cup on June 1, 2006, a new [[Shop]] called [[Altador Cup Souvenirs]] opened, which sold sports team merchandise for each of the teams playing. Rather than ''Altador Cup Tournament'' items have a single use, they can be used for many different things. Hands and bottles are used as toys, pennants can be placed in [[Neohome]]s, and the jerseys are [[Clothes]].

During the 2006 season, they averaged the least amount of goals allowed per game coming into the Altador Cup, though it is questionable if they could generate enough scoring to stay in the tournament.

Having lost in Round One of the 2006 tournament, many were lead to believe Altador was out of practice after the thousand year hiatus, which prompted them to work hard during the following year's practices, exhibitions, and regular season matches, making them fighting fit and ready to prove the loss was a fluke. Team Captain [["Trapper" Remis]] cautioned the "so-called experts" that picking against them was madness, and was quoted telling the press, "After all, let's not forget who invented the game. No one's gonna stop us from taking back what's rightfully ours." But after placing 13th twice, 14th once, and then 15th and 17th three times, excuses were gone for the Altador team.

In 2006, '''Faerieland's [[Altador Cup|Yooyuball]] team''' featured one of the most potent offensive attacks in the game, consisting of three forwards, making for one of the biggest stories going into the Altador Cup. Their trio of quick, undersized forwards had a tendency to wear down against larger and more physical opponents, however, and their fans were stunned when they were defeated by such forwards from Mystery Island in Round 1.

In 2007, Faerieland decided to switch back to two forwards, adding defender [[Elbin Towse]], who showed vast improvement in practice and then in the regular season the past year, moving Faerieland up to 15th place in Altador Cup II. In 2008, Ciona Broan was added to replace Elbin for her tough tackling. Unfortunatley, they didn't improve, but they did remain 15th. With no changes they returned for the next year, however, the hype didn't quite help Faerieland, giving it last place in [[Altador Cup IV]]. Thus the expectations for Faerieland weren't too high in [[Altador Cup V|2010]] as they again made no roster changes. However they did improve, getting 15th place out of 18, rather than 15th out of 16th and winning eight Yooyuball games, more than ever before.

Once [[Altador Cup VI]] came around, coupled with new uniform colors, things continued to remain unchanged, despite adding Left Forward [[Elbin Kroe]] from [[Tyrannia]]. They floated around the fourth tier for nearly the entire time, then lost to [[Lost Desert]] and won against [[Kiko Lake]] to finish 15th.

Despite [[Altador Cup VII]]'s new format, it did nothing to change Faerieland's collapsing fortunes. The team was stuck in a rut for the entire time; they couldn't even keep being swept on two of the four occasions they faced [[Moltara]]. Likewise, when pit against tougher teams, they crumbled. With a win-loss-draw ratio of 6-74-6, it was no surprise that they fell to last place, tying for the position with [[Altador]].

Their thick white fur not only keeps them warm, but also helps them blend in with the snowy mountainside, easily disguising themselves in the snow. Cybunnies are quick and can disappear in the blink of an eye, love to frolic in the in the winter air. It featured a link to the [[Wheel of Misfortune]], the [[NC Mall]], [[Keyquest]], and a new [[Apple Bobbing]] stand. The Apple Bobbing stand operates Hallowe'en activities: users can bob for apples to receive a prize or a long or short quest.

'''Atlas of the Ancients''' is a [[plot]] that began on October 15, 2009. Rumors were started a few days before the official announcement in the news as users received an emailed newsletter foreshadowing for the beginning of the plot on the 12th stating "The journey begins October 15th. See where it leads...". This plot features the return of intrepid adventurer [[Roxton A. Colchester III]] from the [[Journey to the Lost Isle]] and introduces his associate [[Jordie]] and [[Clara Chatham]], the apprentice to the wise old Gnorbu from the [[Lunar Temple]] on the island of [[Shenkuu]].

==Plot==
[[Master Gnorbu]] senses that change is in the air. After studying an old tome, he decides that an adventure must be undertaken that he is too old to make himself. He sends a message to Roxton, who is vacationing on [[Mystery Island]] requesting that he come to Shenkuu to lead an expedition that will take him all over Neopia from Shenkuu to [[Altador]], [[Terror Mountain]], and, finally, [[Faerieland]]. His only requirement is that Roxton take his apprentice Clara with him on the journey. Although Roxton would prefer to go without her, he is tempted by the promise of "danger, excitement, and the chance to save the world" and agrees to taker her with him. Together with Clara and Roxton's assistant, [[Jordie]], Roxton set off to [[Altador]] in order to start solving the mystery.

They rented a flying boat from a local [[Shenkuu]] merchant, but soon ran into storms and were forced to hide in a cave until they passed. There, they discovered ancient cave drawings depicting the fire breathing creatures. The following morning the group arrived in Altador, and saved a fisherman from drowning in abnormally heavy waves. The group followed the clues in the book to the [[Hall of Heroes]], where Roxton located an old pocket watch hidden behind the statues of the Council.

The trio then made their way to [[Faerieland]], but while exploring the city Jordie was struck by lightning. Roxton immediately rushed him to the Healing Springs, and there Roxton followed another clue to locate one of the pumps for the spring. With a little help from Clara, he was able to distract the [[Healing Springs]] Faerie for long enough to steal the pump.

The three escaped Faerieland and set course for [[Terror Mountain]]. As they rested, Clara discovered that the pump they had stolen was actually a very complex clockwork device of unknown origin. Before they could figure out more however, the boat was attacked by a fleet of pirate [[Cloud Raider]]s, and Roxton had to use all his skills to successfully pilot them to Terror Mountain.

On Terror Mountain, they discovered that the normally permanent ice was beginning to melt, and normally rare [[Moltenore]]s were appearing. They trekked through the [[Ice Cave]]s, and located a brass horn buried in the ice. They recovered the horn, and narrowly avoided the subsequent avalanche, before heading back to their vessel. There, Roxton was able to cross reference all of the places they had visited to form an X, pointing towards their next destination. They made their way towards the deserted island chain near Altador, where they found a volcano - as described in the book.

Exploring the island, they found a large door in the mountainside, and the key to it located in the bushes nearby. The trio entered the mountain, to find that a large mining shaft disappeared deep into the planet. They parachuted down the shaft, and when they reached the bottom they discovered the long lost city of Moltara. They soon came across a local, [[Cog]], who showed them to the [[Mayor of Moltara]] of the city.

The Mayor informed the traveling group that Moltara was founded centuries ago by a group of scientists and mystics that traveled to the planet's core in order to put an end to horrible natural disasters occurring on the surface. Together they created a device to stabilize the planet's core and end the disasters, and then elected to stay nearby to keep watch over it. Over time, the machine had worn down, and the disasters had started to return. The materials the book had instructed them to gather turned out to collectively be a device to restore the core to working order. However, when Cog attempted to use it, the core erupted. The Mayor instructed Roxton and Cog to travel further into the magma caves, where a group of outcast [[Moltara]]ns lived that might be able to help control the lava.

In the Moltaran Caves, they located [[Igneot]] and his followers, mystics that had become so attuned with [[magma]] that their bodies had changed appearance. Igneot agreed to help, and together with the inhabitants of [[Moltara City]], they were able to stabilize the core long enough for Cog to use the repairing device again. With the core repaired, the Moltarans decided it was time to open their city to the rest of [[Neopia]]. Roxton, Clara, and Jordie returned to the surface to tell the [[Wise Gnorbu]] of their adventures.

==Trivia==
*This was the first Neopets plot to have an additional Neocash element added, after site events such as the [[Altador Cup]] had already received their own NC Challenges. This optional part of the plot was not received well by many users, who disagreed with the integration of real life money into the annual plots.
**Despite this, a Neocash-fueled "Corridor Of Chance" was used in the following plot [[The Faeries' Ruin]] in 2010. However, this time the NC part of the plot was made distinctly separate and was better received by users.
*More controversy was caused with the trophy giving after the plot, namely the fact that the highest rank could only be achieved if the user had completed each step on the day it was released. This caused an uproar, as many international users did not have this oppurtunity based on their time zone. Many angry fans compared this previously unmentioned criteria to that of a [[Daily Dare]] rather than a real plot.
*Before the plot began, it was speculated that Lutari Island would be the focus of this plot. This was due to the now defunct [[Neopets Mobile]] service (the only way to visit Lutari Island) shutting down, and the Lutari Island page suddenly sporting a new blurb. It is currently unknown if a future plot will involve the island.

Their fans are the most enthusiastic, but due to the team's failures are also the most suffering. It was hoped [[Altador Cup 2006]] would be the year "Ol' Dash and the gang" would take the win, and despite being expected not even to pass Round 1, they continued to play to Round 3.

Led by forward [["Dasher" Soley]] (who has hinted he may retire after the tournament of 2006) and ''Goalkeeper'' [[Garven Hale]] (whose skills allowed them to progress through the tournament), it was hoped [[Altador Cup 2007]] would be another spectacular year, especially with the addition of defenseman [[Zayle Sufhaux]] (who replaced last year's starter, [[Hoke Lemtry]]). Unfortunately they lost to the "underdog" team that was [[Shenkuu]] on the finals, earning them 4th place.

Hoping that [[Altador Cup III]] was finally their year, Krawk Island was surely the favorite to win 2008. The roster was to be the same, and both veterans "Dasher" Soley and Garven Hale were ready to finally win Krawk Island a cup. After a strong stretch all the way to the finals, they only needed to beat [[Shenkuu]] and [[Roo Island]] to win the cup. After beating Shenkuu, which surely was sweet revenge after losing to the previous year's cup, only Roo Island stood on their way to coveted Altador Cup. But another shocking lost(Like the previous before to Shenkuu) paved way to Krawk Island as they lost to Roo Island to earn them 2nd place. The new found rivalry between these two teams has proven to be a great one.

To [[Altador Cup IV]] Krawk Island went, and they were sure ready to finally win a cup as the sole remaining out of the "Original Four" ([[Haunted Woods]], [[Darigan Citadel]], and Roo Island being the others)to not have won yet. Like the previous year, no roster changes appeared in 2009 so it was now or never, cause "Dasher" Soley seem ready to retire soon. As well like the previous, they blazed through to the Finals, with major accomplishments to major disappointments (ie: A sweep from Kreludor) but still earning them a 2nd seed spot through the finals. After quite a major victory from "[[Yooyuball]]" powerhouse, [[Lost Desert]], they only needed to beat [[Shenkuu]] to finally win. The match between Shenkuu and Krawk Island was a sure classic as this two teams had battled it out many times before, with the two major matches before giving way to a win for both teams, so now this was a deciding factor, who would rein supreme. Finally, Krawk Island had done it, with a intense battle between the pirates and ninjas, Krawk Island finally won the match and with it the Altador Cup earning them their first cup.

In [[Altador Cup V]] talk of the "winner's curse" was very common. While some said that Krawk Island won't fall as hard as the others, while others said they'd fall worse. About a month before sign ups, rumors surfaced that [["Dasher" Soley]] had finally retired. And when the rumors were proven true, with Hale becoming team captain, even the Krawk Island supporters were worried. However, when Soley's replacement, [[Feldon "Dinksy" Collibridge]], injured his right leg, Krawk Island had to call Soley out of his retirement for on last season. As all of [[Neopia]] held their breath to see how Dasher's Squad would do, Krawk Island got off to a pedestrian start. Trading wins with losses, they entered the finals in 6th place, though after loosing to [[Virtupets]] they finished the season in 7th.

During the 2006 season, they averaged the least amount of goals allowed per game coming into the Altador Cup, though it is question if they could generate enough scoring to stay in the tournament.

Having lost in Round One of the 2006 tournament, many were lead to believe Altador was out of practice after the thousand year hiatus, which prompted them to work hard during the following year's practices, exhibitions, and regular season matches, making them fighting fit and ready to prove the loss was a fluke. Team Captain [["Trapper" Remis]] cautioned the "so-called experts" that picking against them was madness, and was quoted telling the press, "After all, let's not forget who invented the game. No one's gonna stop us from taking back what's rightfully ours." But after placing 13th twice, 14th once, and then 15th and 17th, excuses were gone for the Altador team.

Tyrannia's [[Altador Cup|Yooyuball]] team, the "Forsaken Five" was a assembled a few years before 2006 from a group made almost entirely of players whose original teams had given up on them. After a series of trades and waiver wire acquisitions, Tyrannia began to transform its motley bunch of castoffs into a selfless squad of warriors. Driven by a desire to show everyone how wrong they were to write them off, Tyrannia's "Forsaken Five" have gone on to become one of the most successful Yooyuball teams.

After their defeat in the first round playoff by [[Roo Island]] in 2006, many expected Tyrannia to retool their lineup in 2007. Rather than act on this, Tyrannia's managers believed they were simply unlucky, due to the fact it was hard to imagine anyone defeating Roo Island was playing at that time. They kept the tight knit "Forsaken Five" together, believing it would be a horrible mistake to break up one of the best Yooyuball teams in Neopia over a single playoff loss. However, their minds changed after the 2009 season, trading Evrem Guilako for Terror Mountain's Elbin Kroe. However it appears they got the bad end of this deal as they finished 10th, while [[Terror Mountain]] finished 9th.

The Island colour for Neopets was released on June 26, 2002. Users can change the colour of their Neopets to Island by using a ''Mystery Island [[Paint Brush]]'' [[item]] at the [[The Rainbow Pool|Rainbow Pool]]. In addition, the [[Treasure Maps#Secret Laboratory|Lab Ray]] also has a random chance of turning the colour of a user's Neopet to Island. ==Overview==
Cap'n Threelegs is a veteran Pirate who used to served aboard the [[S.S. Peophintine]] for many decades until he accepted to become head of the Swashbuckling Academy. In exchange for accepting the job, he was pardoned of crimes which stemmed from his pirating. He now spends his days training Neopets to fight, passing wisdom, and telling otherwise tall tales to those who are willing to listen.

Threelegs has a peg-leg where his right front leg would be, which he lost in a freak accident with [[Tombola]]. He's too embarrassed to admit this, however, and continues to tell a tale of how he lost it during a fight with a monstrous [[Krawk]]. Residents of [[Krawk Island]] realize it's a tall tale, but enjoy listening to it more than the truth.

The game played to win the Altador Cup is called '''Yooyuball'''. Gameplay appears to be based on [[Wikipedia:Jai_alai|Jai alai]] and lacrosse, where players carry a ball in a sling and charge down the field, trying to throw the ball into the other team's net to score a goal. The ball is actually a rolled up [[Petpet]] called a [[Yooyu]], a creature native to Altador. There are a variety of different Yooyus used in the game, which gives the sport an unpredictable twist, requiring a team to alter its strategy depending on the type of Yooyu currently in play.

Yooyuball plays as a [[Wikipedia:Adobe Flash|flash]] game, where users can play with use of the mouse and keyboard. Before each game of Yooyuball begins, users choose the formation they want their players to stand in and select which direction they would like to move the ball down the field. Using the mouse, users point at the player they want to move around, which will select the player. The selected player can be guided around the field using the mouse. When a player has possession of the ball, clicking the left mouse button throws the ball.

If a user wanted to deselect a player, they pressed the space bar or the ''S'' key. When none of the players were selected, they can clicked anywhere on the field to move the closest player to the position they clicked on. To toggle between players, users press the left and right arrow keys (or the ''A'' and ''D'' keys). Users can activate a player when toggling between them by pressing the space bar. Pressing the Shift key to moves players back to their starting positions.

A new rule was added on June 24, 2006, which would make the Yooyu jump from a ''Keeper's'' hands if it stayed there longer than 5 seconds. It is believed this was implemented because too many users were scoring a single goal then letting the ''Keeper'' hold onto the ball for the remainder of play, scoring an automatic win.

Between each goal, a cutscene is played, showing either the goal, the crowd, or - added in 2007 - the Yooyuball selection machines beneath the arena. While the cutscene is playing, game time is still used up, but a 'continue' button appears after a short delay allowing the user to skip most of the animation. An animation accompanies the introduction of each Yooyu to the field, also, but this can be skipped using the space bar.

The Altador Cup Committee is a group of officials who carefully examine each play, making sure the rules of Yooyuball are followed. Players or fans who feel something needs to be reviewed can file a petition, and the committee will decide whether or not to rule on the matter. Once both sides of the issue are heard, the committee gathers in its private chambers to discuss the situation and vote on an appropriate course of action. Some feel they are too strict, but it's the committee's decisions which maintain the integrity of the game, and the committee members' actions are always motivated by a desire to protect the game's best interests.

It was the Committee which sent invitations to the worlds of Neopia in 2006, asking to participate in the first Altador Cup tournament in 1000 years. It's also assumed the Committee is a front for the actions taken by [[The Neopets Team]], who make sure the game is fair and balanced for all users.

The Altador Cup Tournament consists of sixteen teams representing the lands of Neopia. In total from previous years, eighteen worlds have participated, each sending a team to compete in the Colosseum in Altador. Users could only support one team at a time, and could only switch to another between rounds (only in the 2006 games). After Shenkuu was disovered in later 2006, Shenkuu's team replaced Kreludor's. Why this was done was released in a statement by [[Derlyn Fonnet]], explaining that the 'muscle and bone' density of the Kreludans was, due to a malfunctioning gravity generator, too low to safely play on Neopia. To the happiness of many fans, Kreludor returned for the 2008 tournament. However, Kiko Lake could not participate because of a travel issue. Recently, the discovery of 2009's Altador Cup logo has shown that it will be [[Brightvale]] that will not participate, because apparently, [[King Hagan]] states that it would be difficult to govern the country with the Altador Cup going on. The 2010 Altador Cup has a full 18 teams playing, as of the discovery of a new land, Moltara. This also means tht no teams will be sitting out, much to the pleasure of many fans.

Yooyuball plays as a [[Wikipedia:Adobe Flash|flash]] game, where users can play with use of the mouse and keyboard. Before each game of Yooyuball begins, users choose the formation they want their players to stand in and select which direction they would like to move the ball down the field. Using the mouse, users point at the player they want to move around, which will select the player. The selected player can be guided around the field using the mouse. When a player has possession of the ball, clicking the left mouse button throws the ball.

If a user wanted to deselect a player, they pressed the space bar or the ''S'' key. When none of the players were selected, they can clicked anywhere on the field to move the closest player to the position they clicked on. To toggle between players, users press the left and right arrow keys (or the ''A'' and ''D'' keys). Users can activate a player when toggling between them by pressing the space bar. Pressing the Shift key to moves players back to their starting positions.

A new rule was added on June 24, 2006, which would make the Yooyu jump from a ''Keeper's'' hands if it stayed there longer than 5 seconds. It is believed this was implemented because too many users were scoring a single goal then letting the ''Keeper'' hold onto the ball for the remainder of play, scoring an automatic win.

Between each goal, a cutscene is played, showing either the goal, the crowd, or - added in 2007 - the Yooyuball selection machines beneath the arena. While the cutscene is playing, game time is still used up, but a 'continue' button appears after a short delay allowing the user to skip most of the animation. An animation accompanies the introduction of each Yooyu to the field, also, but this can be skipped using the space bar.

The Altador Cup Committee is a group of officials who carefully examine each play, making sure the rules of Yooyuball are followed. Players or fans who feel something needs to be reviewed can file a petition, and the committee will decide whether or not to rule on the matter. Once both sides of the issue are heard, the committee gathers in its private chambers to discuss the situation and vote on an appropriate course of action. Some feel they are too strict, but it's the committee's decisions which maintain the integrity of the game, and the committee members' actions are always motivated by a desire to protect the game's best interests.

It was the Committee which sent invitations to the worlds of Neopia in 2006, asking to participate in the first Altador Cup tournament in 1000 years.
