'''Mystery Island''' is a tropical island of [[Neopia]], discovered on 3rd August 2000. It is noted for its native population of the [[Coconut People]] and a [[Techo Mountain|giant volcano]].

Mystery Island has become a major tourist resort, features many [[game]]s, [[shop]]s, the [[Trading Post]], and the first [[Training School]]. There is a tour of the island an owner can take their [[Neopets]] on for a small fee.

The Island is home to the [[Faerie]] [[Jhuidah]], who overlooks the [[Cooking Pot]] and the Trading Post. For some time, the Island held a giant golden statue of [[Donna]], who won the Sacrificers plot, and recently the [[Lost City of Geraptiku]] was rediscovered.

Mystery Island is also the site of many of [[Jake]] the adventurer's exploits.

==Natives of Mystery Island==

In addition to the tribes of Coconut People, Mystery Island is also where the [[Kougra]] species originates from. Mystery Island is home to [[The Techo Master]] and [[Ryshu]] of the Training School, as well as the [[Tiki Tack Man]] and [[Island Mystic]]. The inhabitants of the Lost City of Geraptiku, however, have never been discovered.

The island has also become the adopted home of [[Petpet]] refugees that came to the [[Rock Pool]] following the destruction of [[Old Maraqua]], and is one of the destinations that can be chosen to build a [[Neohome]].

Further more, [[Island]] is one is is one of the many [[The Rainbow Pool|colours]] that users can paint their [[Neopet|Neopets]] and [[Petpet|Petpets]]. Island pets have tan skin with white markings. They are dressed with an assortment of tropical themed accessories, such as flowers, shell necklaces, and grass skirts. The Island colour for Neopets was released on June 26, 2002, and the Island colour for Petpets was released on October 1, 2003

==Yooyuball==
Mystery Island's [[Altador Cup|Yooyuball]] team is led by [[Teylore Nix]] and the unstoppable brute force of [[Volgoth]]. They entered the 2006 Altador Cup with a punishing offensive arsenal few teams could hope to keep pace with, and were the odds-on favourite to bring home the cup despite the shaky status of their goalkeeper. After defeating [[Faerieland]] in Round One, however, Mystery Island's scoring duo was stopped by [[Krawk Island]] goaltender [[Garven Hale]]. The following year, Mystery Island has the same roster, yet the team is quick to point out they're more wiser and reliant on brains than sheer speed and brute force, making it seem their defeat humbled them to bring out their very best.

In the summer, the weather is usually very hot, at around 40 degrees, with very little rain, but it is usually very wet in the late fall and winter months with lots of rain and sometimes snow.

A '''codestone''' is a rock, carved with a specific rune. They are used to pay for a [[Neopet]]'s training courses at the training schools in [[Mystery Island]].

There are two types of codestone. There is the original type, which bear the runes '''Bri''', '''Eo''', '''Har''', '''Lu''', '''Main''', '''Mau''', '''Orn''', '''Tai-kai''', '''Vo''' or '''Zei''', and the more recent design of red codestone, bearing the runes '''Cui''', '''Kew''', '''Mag''', '''Sho''', '''Vux''' or '''Zed'''.

The original codestones are found either by [[Random Event]] or as the prize in certain games ([[Tombola]], [[Fruit Machine]]), but can be bought and sold in user-owned [[shop]]s. The red codestones can also be bought and sold in user-owned shops, and are made at the Mystery Island Volcano from basic codestones. The recent addition of Key Quest to the site provided an additional method of gaining both original and red codestones by allowing players to win them as prizes.

==History==
Codestones first appeared in [[Neopia]] as part of the [[Arrival of Virtupets]] [[plot]], where they were used to decode [[Dr. Sloth]]'s letter. Users were implored to bring one million codestones to [[Kauvara]] so she could decrypt the message. Now, though, they can be used at the [[Techo Master]]'s [[Training School]] on Mystery Island.

The red codestones arrived after the [[Mystery Island Volcano]] plot. By combining normal codestones in the Mystery Island Volcano, one can receive special red codestones in return. These are used for training at the [[Secret Ninja Training School]].

In the game [[Codebreakers]], the original codestones were shown in multiple colours, in addition to the traditional sandy colour. The only other time this was done was in the old [[Trophy]] Cabinet, which displayed a normal, a red and a purple codestone.

The term '''Frozen''' on [[Neopets (website)|Neopets]] refers to a blocked/banned/suspended/disabled user account which has broken the rules. Accounts which are frozen can no longer be accessed by the user, and all [[item]]s [[Neopoint]]s and [[Neopets (species)|Neopets]] in the account no longer exist in [[Neopia]].

==Overview==
Users are frozen for serious infractions of the [[Neopets Terms and Conditions]]. Being frozen is usually permanent, although it is possible to petition [[The Neopets Team]] and convince them to un-freeze an account. Unfreezing is very rare, due to site moderators usually freezing users for a good reason. A frozen account will display this message on their [[User Lookup]]...

Once the account is frozen, the user name and names of Neopets will stay logged into the database, preventing a user or Neopet from having those names. This stops the previous owner of the account from starting over or other users from potentially pretending to be that user.

Because of the several meanings of the word "frozen", slang for being frozen has been created over the years. It is often referred to as being ''iced'', sometimes with references to ''Iceland''. Someone who is reporting another user for wrongdoing on the [[NeoBoard]]s may say "have fun in ''Iceland''" as an example.

==Suspension==
In cases of more minor infractions, a player's account may be suspended or disabled, which often serves as a warning to a user. A suspended account works the same as a frozen account, in that it cannot be accessed by the user (the main page and a few other pages can still be viewed, though). Unlike a freezing, a suspension will usually wear off after a certain period of time (acting as a temporary freeze). According to the terms and conditions, an account can be suspended for up to 72 hours; however, some users have been suspended longer, sometimes reaching over 100 hours. After the suspension wears off, the user has to confirm that he understands why he was suspended and has re-read the rules so that he won't do it again. After being given a suspension, it's possible to be frozen much more easily, due to a warning already being given to the user.

A user is capable of being frozen for many different things on Neopets, all of which stem from infractions against the rules set in the term and conditions. The most serious infractions include...

Has anyone ever compiled a list of the titles a stat gets when it reaches a certain level? I know the highest its "ULTIMATE", but what stat does that title change occur on? what about the rest of the titles, like "titanic", and "tough"? :If you can't level up the stats of the neopet, then the level of your neopet is too low and needs to be raised (training will only allow max stats to be twice the level of the neopet). you can of course get around this with stat raising items, which aren't limited by the pets level...but you will still need to raise the level to the proper point if you want to train.

::Cath is correct. What it does is basically send a picture of your pet. The neopian (or non-neopian) who receives the neomail/email will have a choice of rating the pet, or customize their own pets. For a user to care for a Neopet, they must make sure they are fed and happy.

===Mood===
A Neopets mood, being happy or sad, is changed by user actions around the website. There are ten levels of happiness, from least to most happy:

Just like real life creatures, Neopets become hungry over time, and must be fed to become full again. Neopets can be any of the following levels of fullness:

*Very bloated

Neopets can be fed with any [[food]] item, of which will lower its hunger (though it can sometimes be in the same state of hunger even when fed, which is random). Food is acquired with the Neopoints users gather. Should a user not have enough Neopoints to buy food for their Neopet, they can go to the [[Soup Faerie|soup kitchen]] which will feed a users Neopets if they have under 3000 NP (including their bank account). They can also gather food by going to [[Dailies]], visit the [[Healing Springs]] which will sometimes make a users active Neopet bloated, or complete an [[Earth Faerie]] [[Faerie Quest]] which will make a random Neopet bloated. Also, Jetsam can eat Aquatic Petpets and Grarrls and Skeiths can eat any non-food items, allowing a user to save Neopoints and other food items while feeding them items they don't want.

Unlike a Neopet's mood, hunger has a direct affect on how Neopets is played, because Neopets who are hungry (or not hungry, if it shows up red) cannot fight in the [[battledome]]. However, despite the name of the most desperate hunger level, dying, a Neopet cannot actually die of hunger.

==Losing a Neopet==
The only way a user could lose their Neopet is if the owner abondons the pet themselves at the Neopian Pound or if the Neopets Team deletes the Neopet if its name contains profanity.

Besides the species and colour of the Neopet, there are many other characteristics which can show the difference between each of them. Among all the statistics a Neopet can have, there are also those which can be raised in the [[Training School]] for use in the [[Battledome]]. A [[Neohome]]s can also be created and filled with [[Furniture]] and additional features (lights, insurance, etc.). The goal of both ventures is usually to try to win a spotlight award or to show off items and collections. And of course, users can create a [[shop]], where they can resell the items they collected in return for Neopoints.

Neopets also offers different writing and art contests, such as the [[Neopian Times]], a weekly newspaper which includes short stories, a question-and-answer editorial, comics (animated and traditional), story series, and articles created by users. There is also a [[Poetry Competition]] which runs approximately twice a week and a [[Storytelling]] contest where users submit the next part of a short story. Players can also contribute pictures of their Neopets for voting in the [[Beauty Contest]], or create their own levels of certain games.

Neopets is a thriving community, allowing its users to chat and contact each other since its creation through many different means. The most basic form is through [[Neomail]] (on-site email) or [[NeoBoard]]s, the Neopets forum, which are often treated like chat rooms than internet forums. Users can also battle other users in the [[Battledome]] in a style akin to popular Computer role-playing game such as [[Wikipedia:Pokémon|Pokémon]]. As with all internet communities, there is possible danger in giving personal information to strangers. Therefore, players who register as under 13 must submit a document by fax or letter with a parent's signature to the website's address in order to access any of the site's communication features, in compliance with COPPA.

If a user is caught breaking the rules as stated in the Neopets [http://www.neopets.com/terms.phtml Terms and Conditions], their account will be suspended or ultimately [[frozen]], which closes all access to the account until it's either deleted from the database or it should be unfrozen by a member of [[The Neopets Team]]. Having [[Multiple account]]s (up to five, according to the rules, can be created) causes the most confusion and problems for users, as The Neopets Team is always striving to prevent users from having an unfair advantage over others. If wrongfully accused of misdoings, there is a response form to contact Neopets. Unfortunately, the Neopets team does not always respond promptly, and may sometimes take up to a month or more to reply.

Scores from these games may be sent three times a day, for up to 1,000 Neopoints per game, proportional to the score the user receives in a particular game. There are also numerous PHP games which are more accessible to players computers incapable of using flash, such as [[NeoQuest]] and [[Plushie Tycoon]], as well as card games like [[Pyramids]] and [[Scarab 21]]. Many of the games are similar in design and play to older games, such as [[Meerca Chase II]] to [[Wikipedia:Snake (video game)|Snake]], [[Korbats Lab]] to [[Wikipedia:Breakout|Breakout]], [[Neggsweeper]] to [[Wikipedia:Minesweeper (computer game)|Minesweeper]] and [[Snow Wars]] to [[Wikipedia:Battleship (game)|Battleship]]. Highly skilled users may earn a [[Trophy]] or an [[Avatar]] from all the games.

Users can also participate in [[plot]]s, which are special site events featuring a story currently occurring in Neopia. These occur every few months, and the user is rewarded special prizes based on their performance. The majority of current plots are presented in a comic book format, which the user can participate in the happenings of the plot as it's presented or in the climax. Participation is different for each type of plot, either being a series of puzzles or fighting a war in the Battledome. Plots usually contain reoccurring characters such as [[Dr. Frank Sloth]], who is prominently featured in several plots.

Part of the reason why Neopets is so widely-used is its continually changing environment, with new items, games, and plots are introduced on a daily basis. These changes are shown on the '''New Features''' page, which keeps a record of all Neopets news dating back to January 10, 2000. The ability to amass large amounts of Neopoints and rare items is a challenge for competitive players, and someone who keeps up with the latest news has a greater chance of being the first one to obtain a rare item (and sell it before it drops in value) or to earn a top score in a new game.

There are also mini worlds and sub-worlds, such as [[Roo Island]], [[Kiko Lake]], [[Lost City of Geraptiku]] and the [[Neopets Mobile]] accessible [[Lutari Island]]. Each of these worlds (which are more like regions or settings) have unique shops, games, and activities pertaining to its theme.

These worlds are generally introduced through in-game plots which involve their discovery or destruction. For example, Maraqua was originally destroyed by [[Captain Dread]] and his pirates in one plot, but has been rebuilt and reopened as a result of the [[Curse of Maraqua]] storyline.

The other side of Neopia, long promised since ''(need date)'', became available on the June 24, 2006. For a very long time before its release, its existence was incorporated in many ways into Neopian fan fiction, such as a [[Storytelling Contest]] story which involved a [[Plushie]] land through the mountains behind the Haunted Woods. Some users theorised upon the release of the [[Neopets TCG]] the other side of Neopia held a massive continent (possibly a [[Wikipedia:Supercontinent|supercontinent]]) called [[Talador]]. This second theory was true to some extent, with the later renamed [[Altador]] appearing on a [[Wikipedia:Terra Australis|Terra Australis]] with some of the other worlds.

Interestingly, [[Jelly World]] isn't on either side of Neopia, either due to it being unmapped, shielded in some way, existing on a separate plane of existence/timeline or TNT's continual denial of it's existence. Lutari Island is on the other side of Neopia as well, but is non-accessible to non-members of Neopets Mobile. The Neopain explanation for this inaccessibility is the fact Lutari Island is floating rather than being land locked, and is never in the same location twice.

There are many unnamed islands and places visible on the other side of Neopia, believed to be released for future plots.

==Merchandise==
Neopets produces a range of merchandise, including plushies, stickers, and hand-held video games. The merchandise retails at many mainstream outlets such as [[Wikipedia:Wal-Mart|Wal-Mart]], [[Wikipedia:Target|Target]], and [[Wikipedia:Limited Too|Limited Too]] (of which was the first outlet of Neopets merchandise). There are also exclusively online retailers involved, such as [http://99dogs.com 99dogs] and [[Wikipedia:Zazzle|Zazzle]].

An enhanced version of the website was made available via [[Neopets Premium]], which could be accessed by users who pay $7.99 a month (or $69.95 a year). There are also different packs that include Premium such as dial-up service. With Premium membership, banner ads are taken away, and certain "perks" are added, such as bonus Neopoints, rare items, a premium only neoboard, webmail, more Random Events, and beta-testing unreleased games. To go Premium, a player must first be invited by another Premium member. There is then a 15 day trial. There are even prizes (an [[Avatar]], [[Sidebar]], and [[Trophy]]) for referring people to Premium who have remained after their trial has expired.

In September 2003, [[Wikipedia:Wizards of the Coast|Wizards of the Coast]] released the [[Neopets TCG|Neopets Trading Card Game]], a collectible card game based on characters and settings in world of Neopets. It is distributed by card shops as well as Wal-Mart and Target. As of December 2006, there have been 10 card sets released. Most of the expansions are associated with plots which are or will be happening on the website. This action which has been met with negative responses, due to many plot devices being spoiled before the official release of the plot.

In 2004, [[Wikipedia:Sony Computer Entertainment|Sony Computer Entertainment]] announced the upcoming release of [[Neopets: The Darkest Faerie]], available for the [[Wikipedia:PlayStation|PlayStation]]. However, in March 2005 they confirmed they had already began remaking the game for the [[Wikipedia:PlayStation 2|PlayStation 2]].

In March 2005 it was confirmed The Neopets Team had also begun work on a [[Neopets Movie]] (which the creators of the site had kept secret from their own staff until it was confirmed). When informing the users of this, they also implied there may be more than one Neopets film in the future (which may depend on the success of the first film).

==Controversy and criticism==
While some educators and parents affirm the value of Neopets as a place for children to learn the basics of supply and demand, economics, stocks, and even HTML, others criticize it for its liberal placement and promotion of their sponsors' products within the world of Neopets, a technique dubbed "Immersion Advertisement". The primary method of advertising is still through creating items based on sponsor products (such as "Baby Bottle Pops", a real candy found in many American stores) or offering rare items, Neopoints, or in one case a special Neopet (the ''Ice'' [[Bori]]) in return for signing up for sponsors' services. Neopets also features many games for sponsors, such as ''The Incredibles Split-Shot''. Neopets claims these offers and sponsor ads are only to keep the site free, to pay for the costs of running the website.

On October 2004, a considerable number of banners linked to external websites such as eBay (instead of linking to various areas on the Neopets website itself as previously done) were introduced. These banners were displayed on many site pages in three places (the top of the page, the bottom, and on the sidebar), making avoidance of advertisements increasingly difficult. However, the creators of Neopets have promised never to allow pop-up ads on the site.

While immersive advertising is effective, some believe this constitutes subliminal advertising and therefore immoral, particularly considering that the target demographic is children. Others disagree, pointing out that not only are many of the sponsors' offers now grouped on one page and therefor somewhat avoidable, but no user is ever required to sign up for them. The introduction of Neopets Premium gave users the choice to have all banner advertisements removed, but sparked controversy with the special gifts given for sign-up, with users saw as "selling Neopoints," a prohibited action under Neopets terms and conditions.

In October of 2004, while McDonald's Corporation was promoting Neopets [[plushies]] in their Happy Meals, a story on the Australian news show [[Wikipedia:Today Tonight|Today Tonight]] featured a nine-year-old boy claiming the site required users to gamble in order to receive enough Neopoints to feed one's Neopet, or else it is sent to an orphanage. While much of this is factually incorrect (gambling is not required, nor are pets ever sent to an orphanage if they are not fed), it is true the website had games of chance directly based on real-life games such as blackjack, poker, and even lottery [[scratchcard]]s, and Neopets prohibited users under the age of 13 to use most games involving gambling.

The article sparked a nation-wide controversy as parents voiced their complaints about the website, prompting McDonald's to pressure Neopets into temporarily blocking Australian accounts from accessing games of chance for the duration of the promotion, which ended on November 5th. When this happened, countless complaints appeared on Neopets itself when Australians able to legally gamble could not even access any of the games. Complaints quickly died down when users realized the ban could be bypassed by changing the country setting on their user preferences. Neopets user ''Phenylalanine'' [http://www.pinkpt.com/rr_defendingneopets.htm wrote an article] for [[PinkPT]] in response to the incident.

Others believe the users of Neopets are poorly treated and are considered nothing more statistics, losing its friendly customer service and ignore their appeals as shown in the PinkPT article [http://www.pinkpt.com/yourenotalone.htm You're Not Alone].

Despite freezing never occurs without pretence, many users believe The Neopets Team freeze accounts too often and without good reason. Data from [http://www.yamipoli.com/vpsrc/neopets.php Yamipoli.com] (which rates virtual pet sites) shows the frozen user amount is 45%. Users are allowed to report one another, and some of these "reports" are believed to not be thoroughly checked, freezing users unnecessarily. Bugs and glitches on games can also account for some of these freezings. Accounts are also often frozen because of the actions of someone other than the original user playing their account. Because many Neopets players are young or relatively new to the Internet, they can be particularly vulnerable to "scams" which attempt to trick them into giving out their passwords. The large amount of frozen accounts has made many believe ''freeze-bots''/''ice-bots'' are used when a user makes an action even remotely similar to a freezable offence, despite the fact Neopets has denied their existence many times.

Some dispute Neopets' registered users count which has reached over 99 million, a figure Neopets often cites in promotional campaigns. A large percentage of these users are secondary accounts owned by one user, frozen accounts or accounts no longer in use. Such accounts are rarely deleted, even if they have not been accessed since the creation of the site. The actual number of active accounts is around 11 million[http://media.hasbro.com/pl/page.release/dn/default.cfm?release=259] and the number of individual users is believed to be less than this.

It has been rumoured Neopets is closely affiliated with the controversial Church of Scientology through CEO [[Doug Dohring]][http://www.scientology-kills.org/dohring.htm]. Some groups of users who are strongly against Neopets have gone as far to creat anti-Neopets websites such as The AntiNeopian to express their views, speaking about their movement on other Neopets forums, and have even reporting Neopets for what they believe to be potential copyright violations.

On March 31, 2006, Neopets released an [[April Fool's]] joke called [[NeoCharge]], a new system which would keep inflation down by charging a user Neopoints for every page view (up to 12 NP per view). When it accumulated to 10,000 NP, users would have to pay or lose property and eventually their account. It made certain areas of the site, such as [[NeoQuest]] and [[NeoMail]], almost unusable because of the constant refreshing needed to use them. Those who saw NeoCharge for what it was began to make it into a game to see how high they could get it, and what would happen when the limit was reached. Other users felt it was a cruel joke on Neopets' part, and felt betrayed at the expense of a good laugh.

:On the map of the explore page, the words "The World of Neopia" are shown. So is it the planet of the collective reality or universe of Neopets? It's something which could be debated, because Kreludor and the Space Station, while not on the planet Neopia, are part of "The World of Neopia" (and i thought my explanation about Kreludor and the Space Station in the article was good...could be better?). Darigan IS an official world, but if you look, the list it's out of is the worlds which show up on the map...and Darigan Citadel does not show up at all (like like Geripukitu, Jelly World, etc.). My big notice with CAPS in the edit summary is to let other editors know there is information in that revision which could be used in other world articles.

Only pets with at least one [[HP|hit point]] and that are not hungry or sick may battle. Battling is a very popular activity on the [[Neopets]] site, and the most powerful battle equipment can cost millions of [[Neopoint]]s to purchase. There is a full [[NeoBoard]] section dedicated to the past time, and it is a common theme for [[Guild]]s. Frequently, [[plot]]s require participation via the Battledome - although less so in recent years - and it is not uncommon for two similarly trained [[Neopet]]s to act as ''battledome partners'', being used by the two owners to try out different weapons and techniques.

==Overview==

Battledoming is a turn-by-turn based affair. In each round both players may use up to two [[item]]s and choose a stance or ability - with the exception of a Neopet who has run out of [[Battledome Equipment|weapons]], power to use [[abilities]], or has been [[frozen]].

After both players have made their move - in two player matches, there is often a delay while one user waits for the other to complete - details of the round are shown, illustrating the weapons each player used and their effects, their abilities, and the total damage performed to and healed from either pet.

Attack damage is gauged in 'icons': a more powerful attack is indicated by a greater number of icons. Icons come in seven varieties - Air, Darkness, Earth, Fire, Light, Physical, and Water - each represented by a different symbol. Certain armaments may also defend against specific types of icons should they be used during a turn it is used in. Certain weapons may also ''reflect'' a portion of the icons used against you back at the opponent.

Certain items may also have additional effects to damage and defence, such as being able to generate specific items within the battle, steal an opponent's weapon for the duration of the match, heal the user - or in rare cases, the opponent - inflict an illness, or be usable only by a select species. There are a few extremely rare items that can permanently remove statistics, alter an opponent's [[Petpet]], delete weapons permanently, or change the opponent's species, colour, or gender. Some weapons will defend against 100% of a type of icon used against you, instead of a specific number of icons.

Many weapons have a ''variable'' attack, where a few additional icons may be inflicted. :I think it's important to note the team member headshots (virtupets_3.gif, 4, 5 as an example) aren't replaced with a new image link when a player is replaced. It's given the exact same image link, but a different image. It happened last year with [[Helmo Timm]] and with the new players this year as well (especially the team images...remember, i do still have the old team images ;) ). During the second Altador Cup, the plot lasted from June 1, 2007 to July 9. The third annual Altador Cup commenced on June 12, 2008. The fourth annual Altador Cup commenced on June 2, 2009, and ended on July 5th, 2009.

==Yooyuball==

The game played to win the Altador Cup is called '''Yooyuball'''. Gameplay appears to be based on [[Wikipedia:Jai_alai|Jai alai]], where players carry a ball in a sling and charge down the field, trying to throw the ball into the other team's net to score a goal. The ball is actually a rolled up [[Petpet]] called a [[Yooyu]], a creature native to Altador. There are a variety of different Yooyus used in the game, which gives the sport an unpredictable twist, requiring a team to alter its strategy depending on the type of Yooyu currently in play.

*''Normal'' - The most common Yooyu which behaves like a normal ball of play without any extra effects. This Yooyu was added during the second Altador Cup. This Yooyu was added in the 2007 games.
*''Fire'' - A very fast Yooyu, it moves in a straight line and must be transferred very quickly between team-mates, because keeping it too long could result in burns.
*''Snow'' - Much slower than the Normal Yooyu, the Snow Yooyu also moves in a straight line. It freezes the muscles of those playing with it, making game play quite slow.
*''[[Mutant]]'' - Leading to an extremely unpredictable game, the Mutant Yooyu will move in numerous, random patterns, such as beginning to curve at different points in the throw, changing speed, and only rarely shooting in a straight line.

Yooyuball plays as a [[Wikipedia:Adobe Flash|flash]] game, where users can play with use of the mouse and keyboard. Before each game of Yooyuball begins, users choose the formation they want their players to stand in and select which direction they would like to move the ball down the field. Using the mouse, users point at the player they want to move around, which will select the player. The selected player can be guided around the field using the mouse. When a player has possession of the ball, clicking the left mouse button throws the ball.

If a user wanted to deselect a player, they pressed the space bar or the ''S'' key. When none of the players were selected, they can clicked anywhere on the field to move the closest player to the position they clicked on. To toggle between players, users press the left and right arrow keys (or the ''A'' and ''D'' keys). Users can activate a player when toggling between them by pressing the space bar. Pressing the Shift key to moves players back to their starting positions.

A new rule was added on June 24, 2006, which would make the Yooyu jump from a ''Keeper's'' hands if it stayed there longer than 5 seconds. It is believed this was implemented because too many users were scoring a single goal then letting the ''Keeper'' hold onto the ball for the remainder of play, scoring an automatic win.

Between each goal, a cutscene is played, showing either the goal, the crowd, or - added in 2007 - the Yooyuball selection machines beneath the arena. While the cutscene is playing, game time is still used up, but a 'continue' button appears after a short delay allowing the user to skip most of the animation. An animation accompanies the introduction of each Yooyu to the field, also, but this can be skipped using the space bar.

===The Committee===

The Altador Cup Committee is a group of officials who carefully examine each play, making sure the rules of Yooyuball are followed. Players or fans who feel something needs to be reviewed can file a petition, and the committee will decide whether or not to rule on the matter. Once both sides of the issue are heard, the committee gathers in its private chambers to discuss the situation and vote on an appropriate course of action. Some feel they are too strict, but it's the committee's decisions which maintain the integrity of the game, and the committee members' actions are always motivated by a desire to protect the game's best interests.

It was the Committee which sent invitations to the worlds of Neopia in 2006, asking to participate in the first Altador Cup tournament in 1000 years. It's also assumed the Committee is a front for the actions taken by [[The Neopets Team]], who make sure the game is fair and balanced for all users.

The Altador Cup Tournament consists of sixteen teams representing the lands of Neopia. In total from previous years, eighteen worlds have participated, each sending a team to compete in the Colosseum in Altador. Users could only support one team at a time, and could only switch to another between rounds (only in the 2006 games). After Shenkuu was disovered in later 2006, Shenkuu's team replaced Kreludor's. Why this was done was released in a statement by [[Derlyn Fonnet]], explaining that the 'muscle and bone' density of the Kreludans was, due to a malfunctioning gravity generator, too low to safely play on Neopia. To the happiness of many fans, Kreludor returned for the 2008 tournament. However, Kiko Lake could not participate because of a travel issue. Recently, the discovery of 2009's Altador Cup logo has shown that it will be [[Brightvale]] that will not participate, because apparently, [[King Hagan]] states that it would be difficult to govern the country with the Altador Cup going on.

Only sixteen teams were available for users to play, but a 17th team came from [[Jelly World]], which has participated as the practice team for all three years. While the members of the team are unknown, it's known the ''Goalkeeper'' is a Jelly [[Kougra]] and the forwards a Jelly [[Kau]] and [[Usul]].

So far [[Lutari Island]] has not participated in any of the Altador Cups, though two [[Lutari]] have. Neopets has yet to offer any explanation for why Lutari Island does not participate.

==Slushie Slinger==

Added in the 2007 games, '''Slushie Slinger''' is an game users could play for lower points besides playing Yooyuball. Users play the role of a Red [[Tuskaninny]] waitress at the Slushie Concession Stand, and must serve impatient fans (Red [[Nimmo]], Purple [[Tonu]], Yellow [[Ogrin]], etc.) their [[slushie]]s while Yooyuball games play. Depending on what team the user joined, the Slushie Concession Stand would be the team's official slushie stand. Players would lose a life every time an empty slushie bottle falls to the floor or if the customers reach the end of the counter.
 

==Make Some Noise==

Added in the 2007 games, '''Make Some Noise''' is an game users could play for lower points besides playing Yooyuball. Assuming the role of the [[Techo Fanatic]], users must cheer as loud as they can by tapping two randomly chosen keys together, raising the sound meter, for as long as they can in 30 seconds, then (though this is not necessary) pressing the spacebar before the time runs out. Depending on what team the user joined, the Techo Fanatic would be seen wearing that teams shirt, and cheering for them.
 

==Shootout Showdown==
Shootout Showdown is a new game in the [[Altador Cup IV|2009 games]]. You take control of a Yooyuball player, trying to score goals against the opponents Keeper. The aim is to score 5 goals as quickly as possible, within 60 seconds, without missing or letting the keeper save your shots.

Unlike regular plots where the plot was written by The Neopets Team, the plot was directed by the collective users on Neopets, and how well they played together in each of their selected teams. A plot summary was written after play to act out who won in each cause. Also, each year had their own methods of participation, and how the plot would progress.

As another part of the Altador Cup, The Neopets Team participates in a tournament play of their own. They did this in 2006, but they did not do this in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Along with the release of the Altador Cup on June 1, 2006, a new [[Shop]] called [[Altador Cup Souvenirs]] opened, which sold sports team merchandise for each of the teams playing. Rather than ''Altador Cup Tournament'' items have a single use, they can be used for many different things. Hands and bottles are used as toys, pennants can be placed in [[Neohome]]s, and the jerseys are [[Clothes]].
