Before the Baraga became the Baraga, it was known as a Spooky Petpet named '''Fat Cat'''. It's name and looks are a parody on the words ''[[Wikipedia:Fat cat|fat cat]]'', which is a term to describe a wealthy, lazy individual. It was one of the less popular Petpets in [[Neopets (website)|Neopets]]' early years, which is why it was among [[List of Petpet redesigns|the Petpets getting an "update"]] on October 11, 2002. Like the others, it was immediately retired after the change.<br />

It is not impossible to still own a Fat Cat. Any Petpet who was attached to a Neopet at the time of the change will stay the same. It will revert to the new version if it is removed, which means only a very few people still have a Fat Cat.<br />

It also isn't impossible for a Fat Cat to win the PPL Award. When the computer looks for coding, a Fat Cat is the same as a Baraga, meaning Fat Cats have the chance to win PPL as well as a Baraga.<br />
