Venuquin is a mysterious Blue Peophin, often called the mother of all Peophins. In legends she swims the southern seas of Neopia, rescuing stranded sailors and leading ships out of danger, for example once guiding Mystery Island natives Kino and Skib back home.

Venuquin's name seems to have previously been Harquin, having been somehow transformed into the Venuquin now known.
Trivia
*As Harquin, Venuquin has a book, "Harquins Day", written about the day that changed her life.
*Venuquin's Neopedia article was released on July 26, 2004.
Erli was a big prospect in the 2008 draft and Brightvale had high hopes with Erli.

A Disease is any type of sickness which can come over a users Neopet. Pets do not simply recover from a disease with time; instead, each disease has its own unique cure, a certain item that must be used on your pet in order to cure it. While sick, a Neopet will continue to lose hit points, be unable to fight in the Battledome, and become more miserable until it's cured. They can be diagnosed at the NeoHospital, and the cures can be bought at Neopian Pharmacy. Alternative medicines may be bought in Shenkuu or the Lost Desert, but may be less dependable. A disease can also be cured at the Healing Springs in Faerieland, but may require several visits as all effects of the Healing Springs are random.

Diseases can occur as Random Events, or may be triggered by an item such as Rotten Omelette or Poisonous Lollypop. Chance-based areas of the website can also affect a users Neopet, such as the Wheel of Excitement which features a different Disease your Neopet can be afflicted with every few months. Also, some weapons have been known to cause sickness in the Battledome.

There are currently 36 different diseases.

Causes of disease
A disease can be caused many different things, the most basic of which is by Random Event, which gives a random disease. The others are more controllable by the user, as they are caused by certain food, games or Battledome Equipment. Infecting a Neopet with a disease is usually a newbie mistake or a malicious attempt by another user. Some users purposefully make their Neopet sick as a way of buying a cheaper cure for a certain disease.

Foods
Ferocious Negg

May give your pet a random disease. It is available from the Negg Faerie. Probably one of the most commonly used disease causing items, because it can also increase a pet's strength. Only price effective for pets that can no longer use the training school. The Strength Serum is also recommended for this purpose.

Poisonous Jelly

Obtained from the Giant Jelly, this may give your pet Neomonia.

Poisonous Lollypop

May give your pet floppy tongue. Given out by Jhudora for completing a level one quest.

Poisonous Mushroom

May give your pet Neopox. This is a retired and rare item from The Apothecary, which it is highly collectable. It costs about 10-12 thousand NP, so users who buy it likely know not to feed it to their pet.

Rotten Omelette

May cause Ugga-Ugga. If you get this at the Giant Omelette, don't feed it to your pet. Buy another omelette off the Shop Wizard if it is hungry.

Species specific
Some Neopets species can become sick by eating certain foods that otherwise do not make a pet sick at all.

*Kyriis can get Itchy Scratchies from apples.
*Quiggles get Neezles from eating ice cream, and other "cream" foods, because they are cold blooded and their blood changes temperature according to their surroundings.
*Tonu can get Neezles from eating a Negg.
*Skeith can get Neezles from cheese items.

Games
There are certain games (such as the Wheel of Excitement and the Wheel of Misfortune) which give a users Neopet's a disease, usually as a risk of playing the game for the rewards. The afflicted disease is usually changed every month or so.

Battledome Equipment
A Neopet gets a disease not by equipping Battledome Equipment, but by having an opponent attack them in the Battledome. Disease causing weapons are popular in some circles as a sick Neopet, although able to finish the fight, cannot fight afterwards until they are cured. Most disease causing Battledome Equipment include poison in their name, but a few do not. These weapons are sometimes used to irritate others by wasting their time and Neopoints.

Buzz Poison Blaster

May cause Blurry Vision. It is multiple use, but is a species weapon and very over-priced for its icons. It is unlikely to be seen in the Battledome.

Coral Cutlass

May cause Fuzzy Fungus or Itchy Scratchies. This weapon is unavailable to the Neopian public and was used by the Cannon Master in the War for New Maraqua. The Cannon Masters use of this item caused cure prices for Fuzzy Fungus and Itchy Scratchies to skyrocket.

Darkness Scarab

May cause Itchy Scratchies. Does block all light but is in the price range of superior items like the Sword of Skarsden. Will be in a gallery before it's in a weapon set.

Mistletoe Potion

May cause Hoochie Coochies. A once per battle weapon that does 7-8 icons of damage. Weaker than Illusens Potion, but in the price range of Honey Potion. Too expensive to be seen in the Battledome.

Mysterious Hemlock Dart and Super Hemlock Dart

May cause Bloaty Belly. The only difference between the two is icon variety. A single use six icon weapon that costs about 600 NP. Rarely, you may see this used by a mean-spirited battler.

Poison Dart and Super Poison Dart

May cause Cricky Neck. Icons are exactly the same for the Super Poison Dart. A single use four icon weapon that costs about 300 NP. Doesn't do as much damage as Mysterious Hemlock Dart, but shows up more occasionally because the cure for Cricky Neck is much more expensive than Bloaty Belly.

Poison Muffin

May cause a random illness. A single use fifteen icon weapon. Since it is considered too expensive for the number of attack icons, especially for a one use item, it is unlikely to be seen in the 2-Player Battledome.

Poison Snowball

May cause Hoochie Coochies. A weak single use weapon that can be bought for 1 NP. A classic among Battledome irritants.

Poison Tipped Dagger

May cause Neowarts. The only cheap multiple use poisoning weapon, and can be bought for about 2000 NP. Many battlers keep one in their Safety Deposit Box for battles where they want to get back at friends or irritate strangers.

Poison Snowflake

May cause Hoochie Coochies. Sells for about 200 NP, over a hundred times more expensive than the Poison Snowball for less icons. Don't expect it ever to be used in the battledome.

Portable Cloud

May cause watery eyes. A very solid Battledome weapon that is given by Jhudora at level 47, and is therefore virtually non-existent.

Vile Swamp Water

May cause watery eyes. A multiple use six icon weapon that would be great for beginners, if it didn't cost over a million NP. If bought, it will be for a gallery, not battle.

Epidemics
Itchy Scratchies epidemic
On 6th March 2001, there was an outbreak of Itchy Scratchies at the Money Tree. Any pets which visited it had a high chance of being infected. The epidemic was brought under control later the same day, and the Water Faerie from the Healing Springs offered to cure those she could.

Scourgies pandemic
On April Fool's Day 2011, the Scourgies pandemic was released. The highly contagious disease was discovered at 1:03:56 am NST, the Pharmacy releasing information about how many Neopets started to have fungus growing all over them, as well as itchiness, dizziness, and muscle aches. Cures could be distributed to Neopets the player did not own from the hospital.

Trivia
*On August 24, 2002, the Wheel of Excitement began to give Sneezles to Neopets. This was a done a day after Meuka became a challenger in Defenders of Neopia, allowing users to gain access to fight him.
*The price of the cure of the chosen disease in the Wheel of Excitement always increase tenfold or higher during the time the disease is given due to high demand.

The Rainbow Fountain first appeared in 2001 as a sponsor reward. In return for signing up with sponsors players could earn coupons toward painting their pets and changing its species. At this time there were no restrictions on what species or colour your pet could be painted. It is important to note this was before the introduction of pets like the Krawk or Draik, and the only colour exclusive to the Lab Ray was Robot. The Rainbow Fountain was shut down within a few months, as is common for sponsor related Freebies.

Years later the Rainbow Fountain was re-introduced. This time there were certain restirctions on the colours you could paint your pet (The fountain will not allow you to paint your pet Robot, Royal, or MSP - even if you have a poogle.) and changing species was no longer an option. In order to gain access to the Rainbow Fountain you must complete a Quest for the Fountain Faerie.

Recently players have found an item called Flask of Rainbow Fountain Water while fishing in the Underwater Fishing caves. When used on your pet it will randomly paint it any colour available for that species (unconfirmed colour results are Invisible, Biscuit, Usuki, Mallow and Zombie).

Suggestions and Notes
*Compare the cost of the item you need to give the Fountain Faerie to the cost of the Paint Brush before you decide whether you would like to complete the quest.
*You can paint any of your four pets. You can even create a new pet to be painted.
*Have the pet you want set as your active pet before you go visit her, as that is the pet that will be painted.
*Painting a Buzz any colour will get you the Buzzin' avatar.
*You may take as long as you like to return to the Fountain Faerie with the item. There is no time limit.
*You may take as long as you like to decide what colour you would like before you paint your pet after you complete the quest but, if you get a second Fountain Faerie Quest, you need to paint a pet before you complete the second quest.

Caylis is a Maraquan Aisha and Isca's sister. Orphaned at a young age along with her sister, she was haunted by prophetic nightmares which usually came to harm Maraqua. Fearing she was the cause of the troubles, Caylis was treated as an outcast and banished from Maraqua, becoming a cynic in the loneliness of the ocean. Although her demeanour seems dark, her heart is pure, and eventually stepped in and became instrumental in the battle against Captain Scarblade and his pirate forces in Curse of Maraqua. She came to be appreciated by the Maraquan community but opted to live alone elsewhere.

Plot summary
Curse of Maraqua
Curse of Maraqua

Many years after she was banished, Caylis encountered her sister again as Isca was trafficking Garin out of the city. Caylis scorned Isca's favoured spot with king, and the comfort in which she lived. She reminded her that just as Isca didn't ask for her dreams, she didn't ask for her terrifying nightmares. Caylis swam back out into the open sea, saying "It would be better if we never meet again."

Caylis was later encountered again by Garin, who was attempting to return to Maraqua in order to warn Isca of Captain Scarblade's approach. Caylis refused to help him find Maraqua, bitter that they banished her years ago, but eventually agreed to guide him for her sister's sake. They headed for the city, but once they arrived, they are both arrested by the King's soldiers.

Inside the palace, both Caylis and Garin were taken before the King. After Garin warned the King, he turned to Caylis and asked what she had to do with the pirate's visit. Caylis angrily replied that she even though she tried to help, she was only treated unfairly. She also pointed out that King Kelpbeard would never listen to an outsider, even if they were telling the truth. Kelpbeard had her thrown out of the city again, this time with Isca, who had also been banished as punishment for harbouring a surface dweller.

Outside the city, Caylis watched with her sister as Scarblade begun his attack on Maraqua. Isca tried to convince Caylis to help in battle, but Caylis retorted that not only would they be killed trying, the Maraquans would deserve their fate for banishing them. Eventually, Garin found the sisters and he and Isca agreed that they had to help, but Caylis reminded them that three people couldn't do much good against an entire army. All of a sudden, Goregas, Isca's pet arrived, having been called much earlier in the story. Isca optimistically told Caylis that the odds were a little better, who observed that the Maraquans were losing, and that they had better do something quickly, if anything at all.

Jacques and The Black Pawkeet's crew arrived at that moment. Caylis stopped Garin charging into the fray, insisting on devising a plan first. Her sister agreed, and she formulated one.

Caylis was to take a message to the inside of the city, using secret passages, but she declined Isca's task, saying Isca should do her own dirty work. Jacques took up the task instead, and Caylis remained stubbornly stationary as the rest swam into battle.

Jacques had lost his way inside the tunnels, and although she had refused her sister, Caylis swam into the tunnels to help Jacques out. She and Jacques entered the city and contacted Swordmaster Talek, explaining Isca's plan. Talek offered Caylis a sword before they went into battle, but she declined - summoning the blue glow of her magic, she uttered, "I have something more powerful than that sword.".

Thanks to Caylis' magical intervention, the pirates became easy targets for Jacques and the Maraquan forces. The forces of the Maraquan Army and Garin's crew trapped the pirates inside the main gate of the city, and while Scarblade duelled against Kelpbeard, they were easily captured.

After the war was won, Kelpbeard apologised to Caylis and lifted her banishment. While invited to return, Caylis decided to remain outside of the city - the city life was not for her.

A plot is an on-site activity that tells a story of the Neopets world. Usually users can participate to earn prizes, and plots often coincide with the release of new worlds. Plots first began to appear on August 15, 2000, with Arrival of Virtupets.

Format
Plots follow a story, which is usually depicted as comics or short animated films. User participation varies between plots: early plots had users collect certain items and deliver them to a character. Later plots were entirely Battledome orientated, and users participated by fighting enemies in the Battledome, and in some cases choosing which side to fight for. Plot challengers are typically released in the Battledome in waves, containing limited numbers of certain enemies. As a major battle reaches its end, users may face a boss character. The boss enemy is usually a collaborative step, where it is weakened by every player who loses to it until one player can beat it.

The Curse of Maraqua plot experimented with having both a Battledome system and a support system involving collecting items for those people who did not enjoy fighting in the Battledome. Later plots started becoming more puzzle orientated with smaller Battledome sections - most noticeably the Lost Desert Plot.

The story of plots is usually released in parts called chapters. In most recent plots, these chapters are in comic book form. Most plots can only be participated in while these parts are being released, and after the final part is released its puzzles are closed. The stories typically remain viewable after this time, however. The exception to this rule is the Altador Plot, which can still be completed to date.

At the end of the plot, prizes are either given out automatically based on how much a player contributed to the plot (i.e. how many enemies they defeated or how many puzzles they completed) or can be bought for 'plot points' that correspond to the player's contribution. Plots reward the player with a site event trophy for completing them or participating, and a site theme or avatar is not uncommon.

Plots almost always have lasting impressions on the world of Neopia, the most common of which being new worlds for users to explore. Characters are often introduced in plots, or taken from games and expanded on. Certain heroes and villains have appeared in more than one plot, most noticeably Dr. Frank Sloth, who has appeared in three plots and made cameos in two others.

Hanso is a Blue Ixi and a petty thief who was a hero of The Faeries' Ruin plot. He usually wears his dark blue hair in a ponytail and wears a grey trench coat. He was once a Thieves Guild member, along with Hannah and the Ice Caves characters Masila and villain-turned-hero Kanrik. Before the plot, Hanso's many attempts at thieving were often foiled by Brynn, a Brightvale guard who was also a character in The Faeries' Ruin plot.

After saving the faeries, he and Brynn began working together to stop any more faerie artefacts falling into the wrong hands.

Plot summary
The Faeries' Ruin
The Faeries' Ruin
When the plot first began it was unclear if Hanso was a villain or not, as he was at the Faerie Festival after the Faeries were turned to stone. He was busy trying to steal anything valuable from the party until he ran into a band of heroes: King Altador,a Brightvale soldier named Brynn (an old "acquaintance" of Hanso), and King Jazan. When pressed, he said that he had seen Hubrid Nox cast the curse, using a strange artefact. However, his initial statement had been a half-truth, as he later admitted selling the artefact to the culprit after stealing it from a Xweetok named Xandra.

While hunting down Nox, Hanso snuck away from the heroes and confronted Nox himself. The villain didn't seem to recognise Hanso, but before he could say more an alarm was sounded as the other heroes broke in, and Nox made his escape. Brynn found Hanso just as all the doors in the castle sealed shut. The pair followed Nox down a secret passage and were able to free the heroes still trapped in the castle using a complicated control board.

Despite saving the heroes, Hanso was accused of letting Nox escape, and was taken by Brynn back to Brightvale's prison, while the rest of the heroes fought off a horde of shadowy monsters. In Brightvale, Brynn found a book illustrating an artefact like the one Hanso stole, but as she was explaining this to him, Brightvale itself came under attack. She ran off to join the fight, leaving Hanso locked up, but he was able to make his escape and help Brynn.

Brynn told him to take the book to Altador, and then was carried off by some of the wraiths. Instead, Hanso followed the creatures who captured Brynn, and infiltrated the cave she was held in. There they found Xandra again, along with other imprisoned Neopians who seemed drained by the monsters. Together, they managed to free the other Neopets and escape the cave.

On examining the book, Xandra discovered a map to the location of a second artefact, which turned out to be one of the Thieves Guild's old hideouts. Hanso took them there and they retrieved the sister artefact of the one 'Nox' had used. Brynn, Hanso and Xandra returned to the Haunted Woods to reunite with the other heroes.

Xandra said she could use the book and the second artefact to undo the curse on the faeries. While Altador, his guards, Jazan, and the Ogrin Master held back the wraiths, Xandra gave the artefact to Hanso and Brynn to hold, and erected a shield around them. Finding the correct spells in the book, the heroes raced against time to complete the ritual before Faerieland crashed.

They were betrayed: as Xandra's final incantation completed, she petrified all the heroes outside the barrier and cowed the wraiths, and Faerieland crashed into the Haunted Woods behind her.

It was revealed that Hanso hadn't sold the stolen artefact to Hubrid Nox at all, but back to Xandra who was in disguise. She explained how she saw the faeries as selfish dictators and wanted to replace them with a new, Neopet world order. The wraiths were an unintended side effect. She offered Hanso and Brynn places in her new regime: Hanso could be treated like the hero he was, not the thief the other heroes always saw him as. Hanso agreed.

It was a ruse: immediately, he snatched the first artefact from Xandra and ran. While Brynn was fighting Oblivion, a wraith now under Xandra's command, Hanso taunted Xandra and used his artefact to absorb her attacks. In one desperate gamble, he destroyed his artefact, now overflowing with Xandra's magic, and a flash of light turned both Xandra and him to stone.

This action revived the faeries, and Fyora was able to restore Hanso to life. As they set about rebuilding Farieland, Fyora gave Hanso and Brynn a job - retrieving dangerous faerie artefacts from across Neopia before they could do any more damage.

Jazan the Fourth or King Jazan is a Kyrii, and the only child of King Razul. He has powerful skills in the dark arts, though his nature is not as malicious as that of his father. He is over 200 years old due to a curse placed on him and all of his people by his own father who wanted to gain immortality and supreme power. He is accompanied by his faithful Uni friend, The Nightsteed. He was the first antagonist in the Lost Desert Plot.

Plot Summary
Lost Desert Plot
Lost Desert Plot

Jazan was tricked into unleashing his father by a false prophecy, telling him that if he married a Sakhmet princess, the curse would be lifted. He at first tried to get princess Amira to marry him (although they both did not love each other at all) before resorting to terrorizing her kingdom, but when Nabile was revealed to be a princess too and much more openhearted towards him, he married her instead.

The curse was not lifted however, and he eventually sent her back to Sakhmet City, hoping she'd be happier there. After her departure, he severely weakened from lack of food and sorrow.

When his father, Razul, later went to destroy Sakhmet, Jazan felt Nabile to be in danger and went to find her. He met his father, but was not able to stand up to him. Nabile, however, caught the attack on him, and seeing her nearly dead angered Jazan so much that it gave him more power, enough to defeat Razul.

The Faeries' Ruin
The Faeries' Ruin
Jazan is one of the heroes besides King Altador who have been investigating the crisis in Faerieland, where all of the Faeries were turned to stone. During this time, he had been keeping a close eye on Hanso, who was at the scene of the crime, and is the first to suspect him of any wrongdoing. He was turned to stone, along with his allies, thanks to Xandra's betrayal. However, they were freed from the spell after Hanso and Brynn foiled the Xweetok witch's plan to rule Neopia.
Just before the storm, he claimed to be washing the dishes from the earlier meal, while Kentari claimed Bonju had just left the armoury, concealing something under his jacket. During the storm, he supposedly saw Hoban three times: at the starboard, then port railings, and then he later talked to him - although this does not agree with Anshu's account.

Hoban revealed, when he was found by the crew, that it was Bonju that pushed him overboard because of a dispute about the meal he failed not eat earlier that night and Bonju was placed in solitary confinement in a storeroom until the ship returned to its port of origin.
The Cyodrake's Gaze is a mysterious ship which appeared at Krawk Island on August 3, 2006 as part of the mystery plot by the same name. The plot required Neopians to interview crew members and solve the mystery of what happened to the ship's navigator, who fell overboard during a storm. The plot ended on September 8, 2006, coinciding with the release of the new world of Shenkuu.

The crew of The Cyodrake's Gaze sold food, Battledome Equipment and medicine, and Linae the Kougra hosted the game Kou-jong. (The facilities available on the ship have since become available in Shenkuu itself now that the plot has concluded.) The design of the ship's rigging, the items it supplied, and Kou-jong implied the vessel came from a Chinese style world, revealed to be true with the release of Shenkuu. Besides being able to sail on the water, The Gaze was capable of flying as well, allowing it to travel and trade with many different lands. Its relation to the Cyodrake, the Petpet after which it is named, is unknown.

Crew
The Cyodrake's Gaze is manned by the following Neopets, in the order they are introduced in the plot.

*Captain Tuan - A Blue Gnorbu. He is captain of the ship, and has taken it upon himself to find his lost crewman Hoban. He was hesitant to allow outside help to find Hoban, but as the plot progressed he realized the users' help was needed. He suggests a crew member to interview each time his ship moves.
*First Mate Shumi - A Green Scorchio. He suggested that users should help Captain Tuan. He is rarely seen away from his captain's side.
*Orrin - A Red Nimmo. Orrin keeps the inventory on all the ship's stores, and sells Exotic Foods at the Exotic Foods shop. He was down in the hold when the storm hit, and he saw someone fall off the side of the ship, sparking the search for Hoban after he couldn't be found.
*Hoban - A Yellow Aisha. As the navigator of the ship, Hoban is responsible for plotting the ship's course. He fell overboard in a storm, and the crew set out to look for him. While the crewmembers slightly disagree about the events that took place before the storm, they all say that Hoban got angry and left dinner early just before the storm hit.
*Linae - A Pink Kougra. She runs the Kou-jong game. Superstitious Linae believes Hoban was bad luck, and that he somehow brought the storm down upon them.
*Chef Bonju - An Orange Blumaroo. Bonju is the ship's cook and keeper of the Magical Cooking Vessel.
*Kentari - A Yellow Shoyru. He manages the weaponry stores of the ship and sells Wonderous Weaponry at the Wonderous Weaponry shop.
*Anshu - A Brown Ruki. Anshu is the ship's doctor and sells Remarkable Restoratives at the Remarkable Restoratives shop.

Plot Summary
Plot Progression
The Cyodrake's Gaze appeared at Krawk Island on August 3, 2006, unable to make it to Mystery Island, their destination. The ship had just sailed through a storm, during which they lost much of their supplies and also their navigator, Hoban. Captain Tuan shared his story with users, detailing what happened from his perspective. Three days later, presumably when the ship had repaired sufficiently, it sailed away.

On 8th August, the ship appeared on the shores south of Mystery Island. The crew had hoped to find Hoban there, but he had not reached it. As they resupplied, Kentari shared his story of the night of the storm. The ship set sail at midnight NST on the August 11, again having stopped for only three days.

On the 15th August, the ship reappeared in Faerieland - the Captain had forgotten to mention that the ship can fly. Chef Bonju was interviewed, and the ship left Faerieland at midnight on 19th August.

The ship reappeared on the 23rd in the Lost Desert, where Linae gave her version of events. The ship left the desert on the 27th.

When the ship docked at Mystery Island again, on the 29th, Captain Tuan remarked that the crew were running out of time and that their stories do not tally. First Mate Shumi unlocks Hoban's map room, where there are two documents (a grid and a map seeming to show the direction change from Mystery Island to Krawk Island) annotated in red which are of interest. It should be noted that, presumably, since Hoban disappeared only Shumi has had access to this room.

On the 31st August, users were then allowed to guess at what had happened and where Hoban was now.

On the 7th of September, Hoban had finally been located, and gave his account of the storm. He had been pushed overboard by Bonju during an argument about his cooking. The existence of Shenkuu, the heavily speculated Asian world, was finally confirmed by Captain Tuan.

The Night of the Storm
Captain Tuan's Account
At the start of dinner, Captain Tuan sent Orrin to the supply room to complete the inventory he had failed to finish, where he locked him in until he had completed his work. On returning to the mess room, he found Hoban declaring "Let's see you laugh when I sail you into a storm!" before marching from the room. After dinner, a storm arrived, and the captain called for all hands on deck, The storm lasted for several hours and after it the ship was somewhat worse for wear, having lost a considerable amount of supplies overboard. Realising that Hoban and Orrin were not with them, and that the captain had locked Orrin below deck for the entire duration of the storm, Tuan sends First Mate Shumi to fetch the Nimmo. As soon as he reached the captain, Orrin says that during the storm he heard a scream and saw someone fall into the water. Despite their searches, the crew could not find the navigator on board, concluding he had indeed been washed over.

Kentari's Account
According to Kentari, Hoban said his fateful line in a angry manner, whereas Tuan thought it was less emotional. The crew dismissed Hoban, and carried on with their meal. Kentari finished his meal first, and left the mess room before the others. He went to the armoury and ran his usual inspection - everything was in order. However, later on, while he was doing his rounds, he saw Chef Bonju sneak out of the armoury, concealing something in his jacket. Before he could investigate, the storm broke out and Kentari was called to deck. While he was trying to secure the starboard side brace for the forward topsail, Hoban came over to assist him, complaining that Linae thought he was bad luck and had brought the storm on the ship himself. Kentari did not see Hoban again in the storm.

Chef Bonju's Account
According to Chef Bonju, Hoban spoke his words matter-of-factly before leaving the room, and the others enjoyed the meal greatly. He noted that Linae and Anshu remained behind, whispering together, seeming to conspire to do something. He then thoroughly washed the dishes, but as he was getting to the silverware had to go up to the deck as the storm broke out. He saw Hoban three times in the storm, first at the starboard railing, then at the port railing, then later he talked to him, although this does not match Anshu's account, when he had calmed down. He asked whether he was thought of as bad luck, as Linae had said something to that effect which had irritated him. When prompted, Bonju explained his trip to the armoury by saying he was fetching a knife to carve with, as the one he usually uses had mysteriously vanished. However, if the Chef was busy washing up when the storm started, he would not have had the time to go to the armoury and fetch a knife, if the timing Kentari recalls is accurate. Also, it has been questioned what the Chef would need to carve after after the meal. Finally, it should be noted that the knife he took from the store does not appear to be suitable for carving, although this may be a mistake on the behalf of the artists.

Linae's Account
By Linae's account, Hoban's muttered his words furiously, like a "fateful hex". After dinner, Linae spoke with Anshu about the poor quality of the food, although this seems unlikely as the other crew members seem to be able to go on at length about the meal and it does not match Anshu's explanation. She describes her discussion with Anshu as "brief", while Bonju insisted they lingered behind to talk. Afterwards, Linae returned to her cabin and began to play a game of Kou-jong, but found she was missing her Lost Desert Sunset tile. Having searched her cabin, she then went up onto deck, where she found it behind a crate. While retrieving it, she heard Anshu and Hoban arguing, but the call for all hands on deck came shortly after they started arguing, and Hoban went to the wheel. She worked on deck for a while, twice beside Hoban, before going below deck to help Anshu fix a leak, although Anshu does not mention her himself. She considers Hoban responsible for the storm, and bad luck.

Anshu's Account
Anshu's recollection is that Hoban's words were spoken less angrily than Linae recalls, and possibly with some desperation. After their meal, Linae pulled Anshu briefly to one side to ask about an undisclosed medical issue. Anshu then went for a brief walk, alone, on deck, but just before the storm came he got into an argument with Hoban. Anshu wanted to stop in at Krawk Island to obtain some medical supplies, but Hoban refused to change course. As the storm hit, Hoban went to the wheel while Anshu was sent down below to repair a leak. Twice Anshu heard Hoban above him on deck, the first time, when he investigated, Hoban was arguing with someone, and then later he heard him arguing again, on the aftdeck, but when he inquired Bonju didn't know anything about it.

Hoban's Account
According to Hoban's story, he claims that after he stated the fateful line, he left the dining area to his map room to get some work done. Several hours after, Anshu confronted him and they both got into a heated argument. At one o'clock, Captain Tuan sent him to assist Linae, where she called him bad luck. Two hours later, he went to help Kentari and was ignored. At 4:00 he saw Anshu again, but avoided him because he was clearly still bitter about their disagreement, then at 5:00 had an argument with Linae about what he had said earlier. He was passing the cargo crates at six o'clock when he noticed Bonju was furious at how he had not finished the "glorious meal" hours before. Hoban then confronted him and in the resulting fight, he was pushed overboard by Bonju, where he was left floating in a crate full of food. After his eventual rescue, Bonju was finally punished by being locked in the storeroom, and Captain Tuan invited the user to Shenkuu.

Hoban's Timeline
From the information each of the crew have given, it is possible to construct a timeline of Hoban's projected whereabouts on the ship on the day of the storm. Where conflicting reports exist, they have both been listed parallel.

It should noted that some of the times are only projected times based on the assumption that the storm occurred at 12:00 NST, which although not confirmed would tie in with the rest of the times and would allow each of the events to fall into order by the 1:00-6:00 time scale that is given in the area to input the solution.

<blockquote>Currently in the works on how the timeline will be presented. Thought it wasn't proper to add a timeline when it wasn't completed nor was it thought out how it would be. Discuss proposals and ideas in this articles "Discussion" page. --Jacob 17:24, 2 Sep 2006 (CDT)</blockquote>
Presentation
The way the comic-strips for this plot are written, it is as though the reader is conducting the investigation and is an integral part of the plot line, something absent from previous, similar plots which included part-by-part chapters.

Whenever the ship leaves harbour, the main comic page becomes inaccessible. The sources of the comics can still be accessed, however, for them to be read:
Trivia
http://images.neopets.com/sponsors/pklogo.gif
*On The Cyodrake's Gaze comic page, an image under the banner stated the plot was sponsored by PokemonCenter.com.
*References to Mystery Island Volcano, the Lost Desert Plot and the Altador Plot were made in the release of the plot in the saying...<blockquote>Ah ha! So there is more going on! Clever one, you are. You hesitate for a moment, though, if only because you remember previous times you've offered to help a strangers. Volcanoes... and spike traps... and flooded cities. *shudder*</blockquote>
*Many theories emerged throughout the participation of the plot where the Cyodrake's Gaze would appear next after each disappearance. Lutari Island and Altador were of major discussion, and many users were angry at the thought it would arrive at Lutari Island, because it was only available to users who had Neopets Mobile.
*After the plot, Eye of the Storm, starring The Cyodrake's Gazes crew, was released. The game was available for Premium Beta testing during the plot.
*In each recollection of the events of storm, Hoban is first seen carrying only an empty bag at his side, but in later versions as three scrolls. Changes like this could be part of and artists whim, similar to the changes of art style in Battle for Meridell, or they could be real different recollections, such as the way Hoban "threatened" he would sail them into a storm.
*To date, The Cyodrake's Gaze is the only significant plot not to have any TCG cards affiliated with it or any of the characters, and one of the only plots not to have any plushies released in the likeness of the characters. Although Linae and Bonju plushies were released to coincide with the 2009 Shenkuu Lunar Festival, they have never officially been released and are MIA.

Petpets (sometimes PetPets) are pets for a user's Neopet. A class of items created on September 27, 2000, they can be attached to a Neopet much like Battledome Equipment. Most Petpets can be purchased in official Neopian shops, but some are gained only by other activities, such as using the Cooking Pot.

For a long time, Petpets could not be painted, but this was changed on October 2, 2001 with the introduction of the Petpet Paint Brush, which is used at the Petpet Puddle. Later, on August 3, 2005, the Petpet Lab Ray was introduced. Like the Neopet Lab Ray, the Petpet equivalent can alter a Petpet's colour and other statistics, such as species, level and name. The Petpet even has a chance of being completely destroyed.

A Petpet can also gain levels at the Petpet Battledome and by waking the Turmaculus, but its levels will not be retained if the Petpet is ever removed from its Neopet. In turn, these levels can help the Neopet in the Battledome, acting as an attack multiplier.

There are also Petpetpets, parasites that live on Petpets, which are a pet to the Petpet.

There are currently 480 petpets as of August 2010.

Nowadays, Neopians can use a sub web site called Petpet Park, with talking petpets as characters.
Petpet Spotlight
The Petpet Spotlight is a contest held weekly or so that involves a neopet user to draw a picture of their petpet with a description and submit it.
Petpet Protection League
:Main Article: Petpet Protection League

The Petpet Protection League (PPL for short) is a group of Neopians who reward Neopets for taking good care of their Petpet. Each week they select a random species of Petpet and reward users whose Neopets have had them for the longest by paying 10 Neopoints for every day they have been owned. Users who have the oldest of the selected species receive a Trophy as well.

Neopets who take their Petpet to the Petpet Laboratory are not counted in the PPL, as it's viewed as a form of cruelty against Petpets.

Dr. Frank Sloth is one of the most infamous villains in the Neopets universe. He is an evil scientist bent on the destruction or conquest of Neopia and all who inhabit it. After the Space Faerie destroyed his mutation ray in the Arrival of Virtupets plot, and left his prized space station, Virtupets drifting in orbit, Sloth went into hiding, distributing Transmogrification Potions, only occasionally getting involved with the rest of Neopia - most notably during the Brucey B and the Lucky Coin plot. Despite hiding in whereabouts unknown, the Neopians were still able to contact him - and receive a reply - during the Neopet Version 2 plot.

The mastermind's return, originally anticipated for 2004, but delayed until 2008, was featured in the Return of Dr. Sloth plot. The temporary shelving of this plot was referenced in the title of one of the games he is featured in, The Return of the Return of Dr. Sloth. He is also featured or referenced in Neverending Boss Battle, Escape, Carnival of Terror, Korbats Lab, and Splat-A-Sloth.

Dr. Sloth sometimes masquerades around Neopia as The Happiness Faerie. Like the existence of Jelly World, this is an inside joke in that despite The Happiness Faerie resembling Dr. Sloth with cardboard wings, he has still duped the Neopian population with his disguise.

His greatest achievements are the enslavement of the Grundos, an alien race, and his creation of the Transmogrification Potions, which change a Neopet into a mutant version. He has also created many futuristic machines, vehicles, weapons, and robots.

Plot summaries
Arrival of Virtupets
Arrival of Virtupets
In August 2000, Dr. Sloth came to Neopia with a giant, orbital space station and mutation ray, with plans of taking over Neopia and repopulating it with his Virtupets. In an encoded message, however, it was revealed that he actually intended to mutate all the Neopets on the planet. He was stopped by the Space Faerie, who reversed Dr Sloth's mutation ray and caused it to explode, leaving the abandoned station in orbit. The plot introduced the Grundos, and stopped Moehogs being limited edition.

It was revealed in The Return of Dr. Sloth plot that during his fight with the Space Faerie, Dr. Sloth managed to acquire the Space Faerie's Token for later study.

Hunt for the Battledome
Hunt for the Battledome
Unfortunately for everyone involved, Dr. Sloth learned of the Battledome, and kidnapped Professor Chesterpot in order to claim the Battledome for himself. A water faerie (possibly Nereid) arrived in Maraqua to warn King Koi about the danger of the Battledome and request that he help recover the Professor. Seeking to stop them, Dr. Sloth unleashed his newest creation, a robot named Mechachiazilla, on the city. After Mechachiazilla's defeat by the Chiazilla, Sarkis, Ursulla, and Buckley managed to rescue the Professor and thwart Dr. Sloth's plans. The Battledome is now public so to stop it from ever being fully controlled by Dr. Sloth in the future.

Brucey B and the Lucky Coin
Brucey B and the Lucky Coin
Having watched Brucey B play in the 3rd Annual Cheat! Championships, Dr. Sloth recognized the coin Brucey was using to win every game. Setting up a high-profile Cheat! game, a Jetsam named ??? working for Sloth won all of Brucey's money, and betted it against Brucey' Lucky Coin. He played one four, and as Brucey had already played four fours, he declared the Jetsam cheating. Somehow, Jetsam had cheated at Cheat!, and did, in fact, have the last four.

Dr. Sloth then used the coin to gain entrance to one of the pyramids in the newly rediscovered Lost Desert, and raided the tomb. Loading the plunder on-board his space ships, he used the artifact he had found there, the Staff of Alhasutek, to wage a war on Sakhmet with his Grundo army. Although the attack started well, Dr. Sloth soon had to use the staff to summon the Rock Beast to hold off the defenders, and when it was defeated, did not have time to reanimate it before Brucey B destroyed the staff.

The weapon's destruction reversed its curses, and Dr. Sloth made his escape in a space rocket built into one of the towers of the city.

Neopet Version 2
Neopet Version 2 (plot)
After Dr. Sloth escaped the Lost Desert, an old experiment he had left on the Space Station - Neopet Version 2 - awoke and took hostage several Neopets on vacation, in a lift. When the Neopian population wrote to Sloth, his reply briefly discussed how the NPv2 program could be deactivated, by acquiring the deactivation codes known to the program's original designers and the program itself. He didn't think the Neopians would actually be able to do it.

Hannah and the Ice Caves
Hannah and the Ice Caves (Plot)
A mock ending was made for Hannah and the Ice Caves, where Dr. Sloth appeared and changed Hannah into a Mutant, claiming revenge against her for cancelling his own plot - The Return of Doctor Sloth, that would be revived four years later - in favour of hers. A few users were able to catch it before it was reverted to the true ending.

The Tale of Woe
http://images.neopets.com/halloween/hwp/chars/char_meowclops_sloth_615bc299f9.gif
The Tale of Woe
Dr. Sloth does not actually appear in the Tale of Woe, but while Sophie was testing potions on her pet Meowclops, one of the results made it look like, act and believe it was Dr. Sloth.
<br clear=all>

The Return of Dr. Sloth
The Return of Dr. Sloth
In 2008, Dr. Sloth distracted the Space Faerie with rumours of a disturbance in a distant part of space, and in her absence, began his return. Commander Garoo and his troop of Blumaroos took over the Space Station, and took the civilians prisoner. They were to be sent away for mutation and recruitment into Dr. Sloth's army, but their prison transports were hijacked at the last minute by the Resistance - a group that had been founded following the Arrival of Virtupets plot to defend Neopia in the event of Dr. Sloth's return - and sent to safety.

Dr. Sloth and his scientists had been experimenting with the mutagenic properties of Kreludite, planning to use it as a weapon. He manipulated the civil war between the Orange and Purple Grundos on Kreludor in order to secure his supply of the mineral, but after the Resistance united them by exposing Parlax as Dr. Sloth's agent, Dr. Sloth moved his battle fleet out to destroy the Orange and Purple factions.

Although the Grundos adapted their mining lasers as artillery against the battleships, they were severely outmatched by the armada, and would have been sorely defeated if not for the actions of Gorix and Cylara. They managed to sneak on board Dr. Sloth's own ship and get to the Space Faerie's token, which Dr. Sloth had acquired in his first conflict with the faerie. Commander Gormos, who had become dissatisfied with Dr. Sloth reducing him to an errand boy instead of sending him to the front lines, let the two Resistance members past to Dr. Sloth's atrium, where, using an incantation the Space Faerie had told her, Cylara was able to trap the doctor in the token. His ship's self-destruct sequence activated automatically, and after the explosion the token imprisoning the evil mastermind drifted silently through space.

Trivia
*It is implied in the Neopets.com T&C FAQ that Dr Sloth's full name is Francis Q. Slothberg Esq.
*Random Events which Sloth is part of...
**A robot flies past you on fire! Help! Help! Dr. Sloth is after me!
**Dr. Sloth has deemed you worthy of using his image on the NeoBoards! (Awards the Sloth! avatar.)
*Being one of the most famous Villains of Neopia, he has many items created in his image, There are also a few avatars for Dr. Sloth:
*It is uncertain if Dr. Sloth is a Neopet or not - in the editorial of issue 239 of the Neopian Times, it was asked what Neopet he was, and the answer was interrupted by Dr. Sloth himself, angered that someone would consider such a thing.
*He has also apparently been involved in various catastrophic events in Neopia, such as the Ski Lodge Murder Mystery.
*The Halloween Moehog is designed to resemble Dr. Sloth.

74.222.223.113: /* Trivia */ Edited a sentence so that it made more sense and added that the bride and groom in the Curse of Maraqua plot are only thought to be Hannah and Kanrik.

This article is about the plot Hannah and the Ice Caves. If you are looking for the game, see Hannah and the Ice Caves (game).

After Hannah was tricked into finding a long lost tomb by Kanrik, an amazing adventure began.

The Plot
In a thieves' guild somewhere, an old Korbat tells Galem about a special gem in Terror Mountain called the Heart of the Mountain. Galem sends Valin on a special mission to retrieve the gem.

Meanwhile, Hannah was dancing around in a dojo. Kanrik found her, and asks Hannah to save his sister, who is dying. He tricks her into finding a lost tomb, which he says where the cure for his sister is found. His only clue were symbols, and Hannah said she has seen those symbols before-- it was a long time ago which was in the Lost Desert.

Kanrik gives Hannah some gems and they set off to the Lost Desert. Hannah asks Kanrik how his village got infected, and he told her that it was first just one or two people-- then it began to spread.

http://images.neopets.com/images/frontpage/hatic_3a_qdn3ydna.gif
He started to fall off, so Hannah helped him up. She asks Kanrik about what his sister is like, and he tells her that Hannah reminds him of his sister-- she (Kanrik's sister) loved to sing and dance. Kanrik starts to worry about her, because his sister now barely has the energy to whisper. Hannah tells Kanrik not to worry, and that they'll find it.

Hannah says to Kanrik that the markings are very old, while walking in a tomb. Hannah examines the markings and found out it said "A demi-god of awesome power lays within."

Then Hannah was dodging arrows and escaping booby traps with ease. Hannah says she heard something behind her and Kanrik, but then she guesses it was nothing. Hannah steps on a secret button, therefore giving her the Mark of Ta-Kutep, a cursed mark. Hannah begins to fall off a cliff, and asks Kanrik to help her. Kanrik looks at her evilly. Then, she screamed while she did fall.

Hannah was lying on the ground, at the bottom of the cliff. Hannah stares at a wall with markings, and then touches the wall. She reaches for the gem. Then she put the Keystone around her neck.

She was wandering around a desert village and finds a doctor Cybunny in a stall. The doctor dresses Hannah's wound, and Hannah says it's just a burn. Then she thanks the doctor, and tells her that she must leave for Terror Mountain at once. The doctor gives her a snowsuit because of this.

Meanwhile, Valin was travelling around the snow, and then he knocks on Taelia's door. Taelia opens the door, and takes Valin inside. Taelia wraps up Valin in a robe, only to find out that Valin jumps out of the robe.

Then, Valin broke a vase and jumps on a dresser. He then throws Ice Dice and a snowball at Taelia, who tells him not to touch it. The snowball hit Taelia-- SPLATTT!

Taelia squints her eyes, while Valin holds up a wand. Valin then zaps Taelia with the wand, who is now a frozen block of ice. Valin jumps out of the window, and escapes.

Meanwhile, Hannah is in a snowstorm, and asks herself what is happening to her. Hannah falls in the snow, and then her Keystone necklace starts to glow, along with the Hearth of the Mountain.

A Bori finds Hannah's unconcious body in the snow, and drags her to a cave. He introduced himself as Armin, and proceeded to explain the history of the long lost Bori race.

He explained that long ago the Bori lived on the mountain, but a monster known as the Bringer of Night arrived and desired their treasure. In order to protect them, the Keeper of Time, leader of the Bori, used the magic of the Heart of the Mountain to freeze them in ice. Armin revealed he had woken from his sleep a few days earlier, and did not know where the rest of his people were.

The next morning, Kanrik was visited in his dreams by Masila, a cunning thief planning to betray Galem. She urged Kanrik to release the Bringer from the coffin he recovered, and in a dazed state, he complied. The Bringer proceeded to attack the Thieves Guild camp, creating soldiers made of ice. The power of the rising sun melted the ice army, and Galem was able to forge a deal with the Bringer. However, enraged at the creature's early release, Galem banished Kanrik from the Thieves Guild. The wandering thief soon came across Hannah and Armin, and during the ensuing fight, a secret passage further into the mountain was revealed. The three made an uneasy truce and continued deeper into the caves, hoping to wake the Bori and warn them of the Bringer.

http://www.jellyneo.net/images/guides/plot_ice_03.png

Both parties reached the Bori's chamber at once, and Kanrik instructed Hannah and Armin to hide. Both the Bringer and Galem located the Heart of the Mountain at once, and the Bringer double crossed the thieves, summoning his ice soldiers once more. As the battle raged on, the Keeper of Time began to wake, and instructed Hannah to unite her pendant with the Heart. Kanrik challenged and bested Galem, while Hannah restored the Heart of the Mountain with her amulet. The magic of the Heart freed the remaining Bori, and they too joined the battle against the Thieves Guild. As Masila ran from the battle, the Bringer struck and smashed the Heart of the Mountain. The magic however froze him solid, and Armin took his chance to shatter the monster with a single pebble. Without their master, the ice army melted, and the remaining thieves elected to run. Hannah meanwhile collapsed from the power of the curse. She was immediately rushed to see Taelia, and the Keeper of Time freed the Faerie from the ice. Taelia succeeded in lifting the curse, though the mark remained on the Usul's skin.

With Galem gone, Kanrik assumed leadership of the Thieves Guild, while the Bori returned to Neopian life. Hannah meanwhile returned to telling stories of her adventures in Krawk Island taverns, all the while watched from the shadows by a vengeful Masila...
Trivia
*A game under the same name was released along with the plot. However, none of the characters in the plot showed up except for Armin and Hannah.
*In the Curse of Maraqua plot, what are thought to be Kanrik and Hannah are seen marrying in chapter 2 of the Curse of Maraqua plot comic.
*According to the plot comic, Hannah is originally from the Lost Desert.
*An alternate ending of the plot showed Hannah dancing as in the original only for Dr.Sloth to appear sitting behind her (where Masila sits at in the original ending) and zaps her with a laser turning her into a mutant Usul, several orange and purple Grundos and Sophix II barge in causing a brawl while Sloth says "Cancel my plot will you?" This can be seen <span class="plainlinks">here</span>. <small>(courtesy of jellyneo)</small>
*Despite Galem being the leader of the thieves guild and the main antagonist of the plot, he was never an opponent. He did have a Battledome image that was never released, though.
*The Skeletal battle dome opponents are Ice-coloured
*Hanso used to be a member of The Thieves Guild

The Bug Brothers are an unknown species of Petpetpets which has been stealing small amounts of Neopoints from Neopians since the year 2000. The amounts they steal are always below 100, and while they are small in themselves, but due to the number of Neopians they stole from over the years, their collected stash can only be guessed to be in the millions. They are very smug, and instead of retiring with their fortune, continue to steal for the mere enjoyment of it.

Trivia
*The Bug Brothers were originally known just as a Random Event, and didn't have any real characterization until the release of Smug Bug Smite on March 14, 2008.
*The Neopedia article The Bug Brothers was released on March 15, 2008.
