When Sloth was [[Arrival of Virtupets|defeated]] by the [[Space Faerie]], however, the project was shelved, only coming to light as part of the [[Neopet Version 2 (plot)|a plot]] in 2001.

Neopet v2 was deactivated as part of the plot, but would return to star as the antagonist of the puzzle game [[Spell-Or-Starve]].

===Neopet Version 2===

Neopet Version 2 was the antagonist of the eponymous plot. After activating and finding nobody to play with, it took control of the Virtulift system in the [[Space Station]] to hold four Neopets who were holidaying in the Station hostage, and forced them to play with it.

With the lift jammed, the four Neopets were running out of fresh air. Dr. Sloth himself was contacted, who although was not very helpful, did explain that the program required ten deactivation codes, two of which were known to each of four programmers, and the final two of which were only know to the program itself.

After tracking down the programmers and acquiring their codes, and interrogating the program itself for its codes, Neopet Version 2 was shut down, and the lift resumed and the trapped Neopets were rescued.

'''Dr. Frank Sloth''' is an evil scientist bent on the destruction or conquest of [[Neopets]] and [[Neopia]]. After the [[Space Faerie]] destroyed his mutation ray in the [[Arrival of Virtupets]] plot, and left his prized space station, [[Virtupets Space Station|Virtupets]] drifting in orbit, Sloth went into hiding, distributing [[Transmogrification Potions]], only occasionally getting involved with the rest of Neopia - most notably during the [[Brucey B and the Lucky Coin]] plot. Despite hiding in whereabouts unknown, the Neopians were still able to contact him - and [http://www.neopets.com/space/neopetv2.phtml?part=5 receive a reply] - during the [[Neopet Version 2]] plot.

The mastermind's return, originally anticipated for 2004, but delayed until 2008, is featured in the ongoing [[Return of Dr. Sloth]] plot.

Dr Sloth sometimes masquerades around Neopia as '''The Happiness Faerie'''. Like [[Jelly World]], this is an inside joke in that despite The Happiness Faerie being poorly disguised with cardboard wings, no one can quite put their finger on who the [[faerie]] is similar to.

His greatest achievements were the enslavement of the [[Grundo]]s, an alien race, and his creation of the Transmogrification Potions, which change a Neopet into a mutant version. He has also created many futuristic machines, vehicles, weapons, and robots.

===Arrival of Virtupets===

In August 2000, [[The Neopets Team]] ran a plot in which Dr. Sloth came to Neopia with a giant, orbital [[Virtupets Space Station|space station]] and mutation ray, with plans of taking over Neopia and repopulating it with his Virtupets. In an encoded message, however, it was revealed that he actually intended to mutate all the Neopets on the planet. He was stopped by the Space Faerie, who reversed Dr Sloth's mutation ray and caused it to explode, leaving the abandoned station in orbit.

===Brucey B and the Lucky Coin===

Having watched [[Brucey B]] play in the 3rd Annual [[Cheat!]] Championships, Dr. Sloth recognised the coin Brucey was using to win every game. Setting up a high-profile Cheat! game, a [[Jetsam]] working for Sloth won all of Brucey's money, and betted it against Brucey' Lucky Coin. He played one four, and as Brucey had already played four fours, he declared the Jetsam cheating. Somehow, Jetsam had cheated at Cheat!, and did, in fact, have the last four.

Dr. Sloth then used the coin to gain entrance to one of the pyramids in the [[Lost Desert]], and raided the tomb. Loading the plunder on-board his space ships, he used the artifact he had found there, the [[Staff of Alhasutek]], to wage a war on [[Sakhmet]] with his Grundo army. Although the attack started well, Dr. Sloth soon had to use the staff to summon the [[Rock Beast]] to hold off the defenders, and when it was defeated, did not have time to reanimate it before Brucey B destroyed the staff.

The weapon's destruction reversed its curses, and Dr. Sloth made his escape in a space rocket built into one of the towers of the city.

===Neopet Version 2===

When Dr Sloth left the Space Station, he had left behind an experiment called [[Neopet Version 2]], which took hostage several Neopets on vacation, in a lift. When the Neopian Population wrote to Sloth, he briefly discussed how NPv2 could be deactivated, but didn't think the Neopians would actually be able to do it.

===Hannah and the Ice Caves===

A mock ending was made for [[Hannah and the Ice Caves (Plot)|Hannah and the Ice Caves]], where Dr. Sloth appeared and changed [[Hannah]] into a [[Mutant]], claiming revenge against her for cancelling his own plot in favour of hers. A few users were able to catch it before it was reverted to the true ending.

The '''Battledome''' is the place where a user's [[Neopet]] can fight against other Neopets and other opponents. Only pets with at least one [[HP|hit point]] and that are not hungry or sick may battle. Fights may be [[1-Player Challengers|one-player]] - against challengers that are unlocked as [[Random Event]]s - or two-player -
against the pets of other players.

Battling is a very popular activity on the [[Neopets]] site, and the most powerful battle equipment can cost millions of [[Neopoint]]s to purchase. There is a full [[NeoBoard]] section dedicated to the past time, and it is a common theme for [[Guild]]s. Frequently, [[plot]]s require participation via the Battledome - although less so in recent years - and it is not uncommon for two similarly trained [[Neopet]]s to act as ''battledome partners'', being used by the two owners to try out different weapons and techniques.

==Overview==

Battledoming is a turn-by-turn based affair. In each round both players may use up to two [[item]]s and choose a stance or ability - with the exception of a Neopet who has run out of [[Battledome Equipment|weapons]], power to use [[abilities]], or has been [[frozen]].

After both players have made their move - in two player matches, there is often a delay while one user waits for the other to complete - details of the round are shown, illustrating the weapons each player used and their effects, their abilities, and the total damage performed to and healed from either pet.

Attack damage is gauged in 'icons': a more powerful attack is indicated by a greater number of icons. Icons come in seven varieties - Air, Darkness, Earth, Fire, Light, Physical, and Water - each represented by a different symbol. Certain armaments may also defend against specific types of icons should they be used during a turn it is used in. Certain weapons may also ''reflect'' a portion of the icons used against you back at the opponent.

Certain items may also have additional effects to damage and defence, such as being able to generate specific items within the battle, steal an opponent's weapon for the duration of the match, heal the user - or in rare cases, the opponent - inflict an illness, or be usable only by a select species. There are a few extremely rare items that can permanently remove statistics, alter an opponent's [[Petpet]], delete weapons permanently, or change the opponent's species, colour, or gender. Some weapons will defend against 100% of a type of icon used against you, instead of a specific number of icons.

Many weapons have a ''variable'' attack, where a few additional icons may be inflicted. Items also have varying reliability in the Battledome. Certain items can be used repeatedly throughout the rounds (''Multiple Use''), whereas others may break randomly - or in response to a specific stimulus - either for the duration of the battle (''Semi-fragile'') or permanently (''Fragile''). Others may be used only once (''Single Use'') or once in a battle (''Once per battle'') - these are often referred to as ''bombs'' if they have a high attack.

Some attacks may ''freeze'' an opponent for a round (or in rare cases, several) during which they cannot attack or defend, but can be attacked.

==Battledome Arenas==
There are a total of 7 different arenas to fight in (the normal Battledome, the Stone Dome, the Ice Arena, the [[Mystery Island|Island]] Arena, the Space Arena, the Water Arena - which was removed after the destruction of [[Maraqua]] but returned with the [[Curse of Maraqua]] plot - and the [[Tyrannia]]n arena), though the only differences in battle it makes are the colour schemes of each individual Battledome. [[1-Player Challengers]] can also only be fought in certain arenas, which reflect the theme of where they come from. This is done during those [[plot]]s which involve fighting, which were:
