The '''Ruki''' is an [[wikipedia:insect|insect]]-like [[Neopet]] resembling a [[Wikipedia:Praying mantis|praying mantis]] released on July 29, 2004. Like all insects, Rukis have antennae and 3-part bodies divided into the head, thorax, and abdomen. Unlike insects which have [[wikipedia:Eye#Compound_eyes|compound eyes]], Rukis possess vertebrate eyes complete with sclera, iris, and pupil. They have six limbs: four attached to the abdomen, and two to the thorax which have been adapted for use as arms, ending in three finger-like pincers.

Originating from the [[Lost Desert]], Rukis have [http://www.neopets.com/tcg/displayCard.phtml?edid=8&id=21 adapted] to the hot climate of the desert. Their outer armour protects them from the sun and also enables them to [http://www.neopets.com/tcg/displayCard.phtml?edid=8&id=72 travel] great distances, even in broad daylight, without getting tired. They were the 48th species to be created.

Although called a ''Magic Item'', a '''Nova''' is considered a Mote due to it's ability to hold all elements of magic within it, and not just a single one as regular Motes (a fact established in [[Neopets: The Darkest Faerie]]).

Magical Novas have a different degree of power in each form. They are:

These Novas can be used in the [[Battledome]]. Most are single-use (also known as ''bombs'') and will disappear after being thrown at an opponent. Wands, Staffs, and Rods will create Novas of the corresponding type in the [[Battledome]]. For example, a ''Staff of Dark Nova'' will produce 2 Dark Novas each round it is used. Rods are considerably more powerful, because in addition to producing three Novas, they will also heal, attack, and defend, and they will not break. There is currently no '''Rod of Ultranova''. Due to their relatively high price and low power, only Ultranovas and Rods tend to be used in the Battledome.

There are seven more kinds of Novas that serve as minions for Dr. Sloth: Mecha Novas, Fire Novas, Pulsar Novas, Dark Nova, Light Nova, Pink Novas, and Attack Novas. They are featured in the game [[Nova Defender]].

The ''Scarabnova'' is unique, because it can be considered both a Nova and a [[Scarab]]. It is [[retired]], obtainable only from the [[Brucey B and the Lucky Coin]] plot. In the Battledome, it either steals a Nova from the opponent or destroys them all.

==Staff Tournament==
The annual staff tournament, which was added as a Daily Dare activity in 2010, returned in 2011 with a brand new format. Every Friday afternoon, Neopets users were presented with two teams, each of which were composed of two [[TNT|Neopets staff members]]. Users were then asked select the team that they thought would score higher on that week's selected game. When the winning team was announced on the following Thursday, users who correctly selected the winning team were rewarded with an exclusive prize, while users that picked the wrong team received a less desirable ''booby prize''. Something I noticed when you were creating the articles for [[Starry]] and other such articles for colours. You're mentioning that the morphing potions in the list are a particular colour and that they are morphing potions. That's one of the reasons that I've been diligently adding the BTY information each week right after the challenger is released.
:The information that I've been adding to the wiki about past challengers comes from various fansites, including this [http://www.neopets.com/~Vruyk pet page] and this [http://neopetsgaming.blogspot.com/search/label/Better%20Than%20You personal blog]. The '''Darigan Citadel''' is a large floating fortress that hovers in the sky over [[Meridell]]. It is currently ruled by [[Lord Darigan]]. The Darigan Citadel was introduced on November 20, 2002, as part of the [[Champions of Meridell]] [[plot]]. In this plot, it is revealed that the citizens of the Citadel used to have a plentiful kingdom of their own. However, after [[King Skarl|King Skarl's]] knights stole the magical orb that allowed their kingdom to flourish, their once peaceful land fell into ruins and the citizens themselves took on monstrous forms.

The Darigan Citadel has waged war against the land of Meridell twice. The first of these two wars took place during the Champions of Meridell plot, and the second took place during the [[Battle for Meridell]] plot, for which time it was known as the [[Lord Kass|Kass]] Citadel. Since the end of the Battle for Meridell plot, the two kingdoms have had an uneasy but stable truce.

The annual staff tournament, which was added as a Daily Dare activity in 2010, returned in 2011 with a brand new format. '''Dueling Decks''' is a [[game]] which was part of the [[New Game Challenge]] starting on December 4, being the 10th game in the New Game Challenge.

==How to Play==
There are 40 Neopian character cards in the game in total, but just 20 cards are played in each game. You start out the game with 10 cards, and your opponent, Zenco the [[Mynci]], also has 10 cards. A player plays one card at a time, and for each character card, they have three categories: Courage, [[wikipedia:charisma|Charisma]], and Intelligence. Choose a category that you think that your card will beat Zenco's card in. Then, when you both show your cards, the player with more points in the chosen category wins the other card. The person who gets all the cards at the end wins the game.

There are 3 different mode types: Easy, Normal, and Hard. In Easy mode, after losing a card to Zenco, you still get to choose the next category. In Normal mode, after losing a card, Zenco chooses the next category by quickly moving his hand on the three categories, and when you click the button, he'll stop moving his hand and choose the category he's pointing to at that time. In Hard mode, when you lose a card, Zenco gets to choose the next card without your influence at all.

There's also a 41st card that serves as a wild card: you may play it at any time to replace your current card, but its use is limited to once per game.

They prefer hot climates like volcanoes or deserts. Scorchios can fly and breath fire - the [[Maraquan]] Scorchio can [http://www.neopets.com/tcg/displayCard.phtml?edid=7&id=13 shoot lukewarm bubbles] instead.

Their affinity for fire and hot weather leads to them being exceptionally resistant to fire attacks in the [[Battledome]]. They are also associated with fire in the [[Neopets Trading Card Game]].

'''Faerie Quests''' are [[quests]] about retrieving certain items for certain [[faeries]] without using the [[Shop Wizard]]. They first began on 21 April 2000.

Different faeries ask for different items, and give different rewards. Before [[The Faeries' Ruin]], these quests were given out by [[Random Event]], however on 7 February 2011 they were relaunched with an on-demand system, where the user could be issued up to one quest per day, until 24 February, after which they will return to being issued randomly.

There is no time limit for a Faerie Quest.

==History==

When they were first introduced, Faerie Quests were given on demand. This changed to a random event system from 2 October 2000 until the events of [[The Faeries' Ruin]].
During this time, certain elemental faeries (dubbed [[Uber Faeries]]), the [[Faerie Queen]], the [[Fountain Faerie]] and the [[Space Faerie]] would sometimes give quests out to players at random, where they asked for certain items to be retrieved without the use of the Shop Wizard, and gave certain rewards (see [[Faerie Quest#Quest types|below]] to a random one of the user's pets. The reason they needed these items was unclear.

During the events of the plot, however, [[Faerieland]] fell, and when Faerie Quests were relaunched on 7 February, Fyora explained that the faeries needed the items to prepare magical spells to restore the city. Between 7 February and 24 February, these quests were given out daily on demand. The faeries began to give stat rewards only to the user's active pet at this time.

After the relaunch, the Shop Wizard also began explaining why he couldn't aid the player - because of "[a]ncient laws of magic".

==Quest types==
There are eleven types of faeries that can give Faerie Quests. The six elemental faeries each ask for a certain type of item, and each reward a certain stat boost. Following the post-[[The Faeries' Ruin]] update, this stat reward is given to the user's active [[Neopet]] - before, it was given randomly to any of their pets.

*[[Air Faerie]]: asks for [[Grooming]] items, increases speed by two points
*[[Dark Faerie]]: asks for [[Toy]]s, increase hit points by two points
*[[Earth Faerie]]: asks for [[Magic Item]]s, increases strength, defence, or movement by two points
*[[Fire Faerie]]: asks for [[Clothes]], increase strength by two points
*[[Light Faerie]]: asks for [[Collectable Card]]s, increases level by two points
*[[Water Faerie]]: asks for [[Book]]s, increases defence by two points

There are five other faeries who can give out Faerie Quests. The [[Crafting Faerie]] was introduced on 7 February 2011. She is a Dark Faerie called Delina. The [[Battle Faerie]] had been introduced before the update, but only started giving out quests on 7 February.

Three other faeries also ask for items on rarer occasions. They are:

The '''Pile of Soot''' is a [[Petpet]] released on August 3, 2005 that is only available from the [[Petpet Laboratory]]. According to the item description, a Pile of Soot is the result of a Petpet Lab Ray malfunction. Because Petpets that have been zapped by the Petpet Lab Ray revert back to their original form when removed from their Neopet, the Pile of Soot can not be placed in a user's inventory and thus cannot be sold or traded.

'''The Hunt for the Crown''' is a [[plot]] regarding [[King Coltzan III]] and the completion of [[Coltzan's Shrine|his shrine]], his crown appeared to have been stolen by two [[Meerca]]s named [[Heermeedjet and Merouladen]]. The object of the plot was to work your way through a series of clues in order to finally retrieve the crown and get the shrine to work. Hunt for the Crown was a follow-up to the [[Usurper!]] plot and lasted only two days.

==Plot Summary==
In the Lost Desert, a crowd gathers to watch the grand unveiling of Coltzan's Shrine. [[Princess Vyssa]] gives a brief speech before revealing, to the shock of onlookers, that the ancient magical crown which was meant to be placed inside the shrine, has disappeared. The only clue is a poorly written note that reads: "Ha Ha! We have stolen your crown Vyassa! U smell and u have a spotty bum."

It is soon discovered that the culprits are the Meerca brothers Heermeejet and Merouladen. Following the trail of their secret meetings and encoded messages, Neopians find a Parrot who has recorded a conversation between [[Malkus Vile]], the plot's mastermind, and [[Princess Sankara]], King Coltzan III's murderer. A coded poem leads to another note hiding the coordinates of the crown.

The crown is found buried in the shores of Mystery Island. However, Malkus Vile escapes.
