The '''Altador Cup''' is a yearly sporting event that takes place at the [[Colosseum]] during the month of June. During the event, eighteen teams, each one representing a different [[Neopia]]n land, compete in the sport of [[Yooyuball]]. Unlike other events on the [[Neopets.com|Neopets website]], the outcome of the Altador Cup is not pre-planed by [[TNT]] writers. Instead, the winning team is determined entirely by user participation.

==User Participation==
In order to participate in the Altador Cup, each user must first pick a team to support. In general, users are not allowed to switch teams after they have chosen one. After choosing a team, users can earn victory points for their team by playing any of the four [[Wikipedia:Adobe Flash|flash]] [[Games Room|games]] listed below and getting at least the minimum score required for the game. These four games are only available during the Altador Cup.

For the first four years, the Altador Cup Tournament consisted of sixteen teams representing the lands of [[Neopia]]. Following the introduction of [[Shenkuu]], one team sat out each year to keep the numbers even, until the discovery of [[Moltara]] allowed a full roster of eighteen teams to play in Altador Cup V. Users could only support one team at a time, and could only switch between teams in the first competition, between rounds.

The first team to cancel participation was [[Kreludor]] for Altador Cup II - in a statement by [[Derlyn Fonnet]], this was due to a malfunctioning gravity generator leading to [[wikipedia:Spaceflight osteopenia|reduced "muscle and bone" density]]. The following year they returned to the competition, but [[Kiko Lake]] could not participate due to travel issues. [[Brightvale]] was unable to participate in Altador Cup IV as [[King Hagan]] thought it would make the country harder to govern.

An additional team is available each year as the practice team, from [[Jelly World]]. While the members of the team are unknown, it's known the ''Goalkeeper'' is a Jelly [[Kougra]] and the forwards a Jelly [[Kau]] and [[Usul]].

So far [[Lutari Island]] has not participated in any of the Altador Cups, though two [[Lutari]] have.

*The first Altador Cup appeared to coincide with dates and times of the [[Wikipedia:FIFA World Cup|FIFA World Cup]] in Germany [[Wikipedia:2006 FIFA World Cup|of 2006]], and the golden orb, seen in the preview trailer, of the trophy bore a remarkable resemblance to the actual World Cup.
*Noted advertisements shown in [[Wikipedia:North America|North America]] within the 2006 tournament were a new [[Wikipedia:Dragon Ball Z|Dragon Ball Z]] game being released in July 2006 and a new [[Wikipedia:Garfield|Garfield]] movie. For 2007, [[Wikipedia:Evan Almighty|Evan Almighty]] was advertised.
*During Yooyuball game play when the [[Ixi]] and [[Grarrl]] [[Altador Cup Commentators|news presenters]] are making their remarks about the teams, were a user to refrain from clicking the "continue" button, they would begin to ask the user to carry on, mention they see [[Tarla]] and need to hurry and catch her or reminding the user that sitting and watching them does not earn them points. *Because there used to be 17 possible Altador Cup teams, and only 16 spots available for participating, every year, TNT had to choose one team to not participate, and choose a clever reason for it. The addition of Moltara City in 2010 made for an even total of 18 and thus no team was left out on the sidelines.
