The '''Tombola''' is a free daily chance game on [[Mystery Island]] that was released on June 9, 2001. To play the game, the player chooses a ticket, and if it ends in a 0, 2, or 5 then they win a prize. Otherwise the player has lost, though they may still be given a consolation prize. Occasionally, the [[Tiki Tack Man]], who runs the tombola, will run out of money, and will appeal to the Neopian Public for funds (usually approaching a million [[Neopoints]]) before he can resume allowing users to play.

When a user creates a Neopet using the ''Create a Neopet'' feature, they can choose one of four basic colours for their new Neopet: Blue, Yellow, Green, or Red. Players of the site must sign up for a free account. This allows them to own Neopets and participate in the world. Each account can own up to four Neopets, a shop, a [[gallery]], and a Neohome each. A large portion of the site is given over to community interactions. Users can view other users' profiles (called [[user look-up]]s) and their Neopets and trade with them. ===Rule breaking===
The Neopets Team have several systems in place for dealing with rule breaking. Minor infractions may often receive a warning at the discretion of the staff, whereas repeated or more serious infractions can be dealt with by suspension: this prevents a user from accessing their account or anything associated with it - e.g. its Neopets, its Neopoints, its shop - until the suspension has elapsed. Suspensions can be issued for different lengths of time, and subsequent suspensions tend to be longer.

For very serious or continued rule breaking, the player can be frozen. This permanently locks the user out of their account, and any other user who searches for that player will just receive a message that the account in question is frozen. If a player believes they have been wrongly frozen, they can submit a frozen account ticket in the Help section to have the case reviewed and submit extra information about what happened. All the details of the account remain saved, so if the review finds in favour of the player the account can be restored in its entirety.

For rule breaking specifically relating to the Neoboards or contacting other players, a user may be silenced for a period of time. While silenced, they can still play the site but cannot communicate with other players at all, nor modify their user or pet look-ups.

None of these actions are carried out by automatic systems: an employee of Neopets reviews each case before acting.

==How to play==
*To win a round, you have to get rid of all the cards in your hand. Once you beat a round, you can continue to the next highest difficulty.
*On your turn, you can play 1 to 4 cards of the same value. Pick the cards you want to play by clicking on them; then you have to select what you want to tell the other players. It's okay to cheat!
*If someone guesses that you're cheating, you have to take all the cards from the pile and add them to your hand.
*When the computer players take a turn, you can accuse them of cheating (if you think they are!) or you can let them get away with it. If you accuse them and you're wrong, you have to take the pile! But if you're right, then THEY have to take the pile, and you get some Neopoints for catching them!

The Down for Maintenance Pteri was originally an unnamed Pteri, but became known as the Pteri seen when Neopets puts up the "Down for Maintenance". The Pteri was shown as a normal crying Pteri to show what Neopets being down does normal users. After users began to ask to fight the Down for Maintenance Pteri in the [[Battledome]] for a sense of revenge due to the annoyance the Pteri caused (most notably an editorial qustion in the [[Neopian Times]] on [http://www.neopets.com/newnt/index.phtml?section=editorial&week=146 May 11, 2003]), The Neopets Team released a [[Random Event]] on July 27, 2004, in which it would challenge users. Neopets can be fed with any [[food]] item, of which will lower its hunger (though it can sometimes be in the same state of hunger even when fed, which is random). Should a user not have enough Neopoints to buy food for their Neopet, they can go to the [[Soup Faerie|soup kitchen]] which will feed a users Neopets if they have under 3000 NP. They can also gather food by going to [[Dailies]], visit the [[Healing Springs]] which will sometimes make a users active Neopet bloated, or complete an [[Earth Faerie]] [[Faerie Quest]] which will make a random Neopet bloated. Also, Jetsams can eat Aquatic Petpets and Grarrls and Skeiths can eat any non-food items, allowing a user to save Neopoints and other food items while feeding them items they don't want.

Unlike a Neopets mood, hunger has a direct affect on how Neopets is played, because Neopets who are hungry (or not hungry, if it shows up red) cannot fight in the [[battledome]]. However, despite the name of the most desperate hunger level, dying, a Neopet cannot actually die of hunger.

Besides the species and colour of the Neopet, there are many other characteristics which can show the difference between each of them. Among all the statistics a Neopet can have, there are also those which can be raised in the [[Training School]] for use in the [[Battledome]].
