In NeoQuest I, the NeoQuest Hero sets out to solve the mystery of why Ancient Neopia was overrun with monsters.
Trivia
*Uncommonly, new Neoquest I players with a Lupe as an active pet will sometimes get confused whether the protagonist changes depending on what active pet you have, leading to the false option of changing the hero's species being interpreted and accidently restarting the game. This can be an annoyance if you have gone far into the game.
NeoQuest II is a role playing game within Neopets created by Mr. Insane, sequel to I. In this version, a new battle system was implemented, along with the use of more party members (a total of 4). It also introduced places to rest, meaning that the player no longer has to respawn in a single location when they die, making the sequel actually easier than the last.

Plot summary
Following the same medieval and "in the past" feel, users control the role of Rohane who is presented as the son of a knight in Trestin of Meridell, but in actuallity is a captain of a spaceship who is stuck in a hologram simulation. While playing, Rohane travels through 4 other lands (Terror Mountain, The Lost Desert, The Haunted Woods, and Faerieland) meeting his other crew members (Mipsy, Talinia, and Velm) along the way, who are locked within simulation booths as well. Together, they try to regain control of the hijacked space ship which is heading towards the sun.

Chapter 1
Ramtor, King Skarl's advisor, takes the throne of Meridell from him and puts him in his tower's dungeon, and slowly begins to take over the land. In Trestin, Rohane notices this change in the land and decides to head out on an adventure with his Father's sword. Along the way he encounters his shipmate Mipsy and adds her to his party. The two venture together and eventually defeat Ramtor, saving Meridell. King Skarl thanks Rohane (and presumably Mipsy). However, not long after, it is revealed that Rohane and Mipsy were actually in a simulation. They discover that they have been mysteriously trapped in the simulation booths. They decide to go to the next simulation.

Chapter 2
Rohane and Mipsy arrive in Terror Mountain, where the paths across the mountain become clogged with snow, making it difficult to traverse, and monsters are swarming all the passes. After defeating Leximp and helping a city of Chias, they meet Talinia, who joins them. After defeating Kolvars they eventually come to the Snowager, who was trapped by Scuzzy. After defeating Scuzzy the Snowager is released, and he's revealed to be the overseer program and, and the snow the clogged data routes of the space ships computer.

Chapter 3
A sandstorm rages in the Lost Desert, and Princess Vyssa seeks a relic, the Medallion of the Wind, designed to control the weather. First, the group defeats Siliclast and retrieves the Celestial Talisman, which points to the direction of the Medallion. Then, they defeat Gebarn II and retrieve the first piece of the Medallion. Then, Velm joins the group and together, they defeat the Renevant and rescue Lifira, the librarian, and another computer program. Lifira tells the group a password. When the group tells the hermit the password the hermit reveals information about the 2nd piece of the Medallion. After finding the 2nd piece, they defeat Coltzan's Ghost who reveals the 3rd and final piece of the Medallion. Then, the group finds a gemstone, which makes the Medallion complete. After that, the group goes to Zakharukh's Pyramid, where the Medallion must be taken for the weather to be restored. As it turns out, the sandstorm was random data, and by removing it the ship's computers are now accessible. The heroes discover that the ship is heading towards a star, and that they must enter the other simulations quickly before the ship's hull melts and they are boiled alive.

Chapter 4
Rohane appears in the Haunted Woods, where a spell has been cast on the sun, keeping it stuck in the sky all day long, making it difficult for the residents as ghosts began to live in their houses, and keeing other such creatures in seclusion. Residents of Shadow Gulch say it was Count Von Roo who cast the spell on the sun, but it turns out he was trying to cast a counter-spell, and was being held hostage by Meuka. After they defeated Meuka, the Count explained Balthazar, Hubrid Nox, and the Spider Grundo worked in collaboration to cast the real spell. After defeating the Spider Grundo, he said that Balthazar casted the spell, but Balthazar said Hubrid Nox casted the spell. So they defeated Hubrid Nox, but he explains that it's actually Edna who casted the spell.

After defeating the Esophagor which blocked the path to Edna, Rohane confronted her about the curse, and she said she was trying to keep the sun down, but messed up, possibly from too much Kadoatie Fur. When asked if she could reverse the spell, she said no and dropped her ruse, revealing herself to one one of the AI in the ship's computer. The spell was meant to slow down the virus, but having got it backwards, the virus was more powerful than ever.

Mipsy then figured out how to access the ships computer through the simulator, and discovered they were not far from the sun, and a new simulation of Faerieland opened up, which could be seen through the clouds. Taliania noticed there was something wrong with it, and Edna wished them luck, and told them to hurry as there wasn't much time left.

Chapter 5
Coming into Faerieland, Rohane and company discovered it was overrun by mercenaries and monsters after The Dark Faeries rebelled. Many of the cloud paths were destroyed, including The Bridge of Mist by a giant Devilpuss. Traveling through what remained of the clouds, Rohane defeated the Fallen Angel and giant Devilpuss on the way to the Faerie City. Once inside, they defeated The Faerie Thief who was coordinating monster attacks, and learned the Faerie Palace was overrun by the forces of a dragon calling himself King Terask, who had taken the throne from Fyora, the path to which was locked by two Pant Devils. They eventually are freed fom their simulation booths after defeating King Terask twice. Then, they manage to steer their ship away from the sun seconds before they would crash into the sun.

Difficulty
Normal
Basic gameplay, where the boss's hitpoints and difficulty are lowest.

Evil
Monster hit points are raised 50% and Boss's 25% of those in Normal, and their strength and defences against certain skills is also increased, requiring the user to be a level or 2 higher to defeat monsters than they did in Normal.

InSaNe!
The ultimate challenge, monster hit points are raised 100% and Boss's 50% of those in Normal, and strength and defences against certain skills is raised even higher. If a user should be defeated at any time during the game, they start over from the very beginning of the game, losing all progress.

Rewards
Should a user play through any of the difficulties of NeoQuest II, the user receives a set sum of 14,100 Neopoints for defeating all the bosses. It's also possible to receive the Weakling, Devilpuss, and Bionic Cybunny Avatar through gameplay. The rewards for completing each gameplay are...
Trivia
*As of August 2006, there are a total of 61 NeoQuest II related items, 25 of which are Stamps specifically for the NeoQuest II section of the Stamp Album.
*The slogan of the game is "Live in your world. Get devoured by a Vampire Bearog in mine." This is similar to PlayStation 2's slogan: "Live in your world, play in ours." Also, there isn't a vampire bearog in any of the NeoQuest series.
*The lost city of Phorofor: Phorofor sounds a bit like 404 (which is the HTTP error code for "not found").
*The phrase for Phorofor "ad ro un ta en" is made up of syllables from "En taro adun", which happens to be from the game Starcraft.
*Mipsy says "I wish I didn't have these stupid shoes" throughout the game but doesn't have shoes until near the end of the game.
*There are circuit tiles showing up occasionally and randomly in the Act 1 map, giving hints that this is a simulation within a spaceship rather than the actual Neopian world.
*Prior to finishing the first chapter of the game, the user is led to believe defeating Ramtor is the game's only task, and is given no clue (except for the circuit board tiles) the world is a simulation within a spaceship. The revelation surprised many users, as many were expecting a simple story set in a medieval land.
*Chiaoscuro is spelled like chiarocuro, a technique of using light and dark in a work of art. It can also be translated from Italian as Dark Chia.
*Before getting the Wordstone, The Chias in Chia Oscuro don't "talk". They spew out random letters which replace the actual letter for each word which appear after you get the Wordstone.
*The hermit's password, Alpha-three-seven-tango-echo-nine, translates to A37TE9 (phonetic alphabet).
*Anubits serves both as a reference to Anubis, the Egyptian god, and the bit, a eighth of a byte (a single 0-or-1 switch).
*Nox's Fortress: Various tiles (pillars / walls / boxes) on the 9 maps of Nox's Tower spell HUBRID NOX (one letter per level, without the space).
*Faerie Palace, Level 1 has a very high number of staircases leading up, but there's only one downward staircase on level two.
*Mr. Insane looks remarkably like The Architect (Matrix).
*According to Mr. Insane, Rohane was named after a character on EverQuest Test Server, while Mipsy, Talinia and Velm were named after members of his guild.
*In NeoQuest II, all the married pets that have children are different species. For example, an acara and a wocky can have a child that is a cybunny. However, Rohane's "mother" is, like him, a white blumaroo.
*Mipsy's red robe appears in the Terror Mountain, Lost Desert (background) and Haunted Woods cut scenes. In the game, however, she has no such robe (dressing up for the occasion, huh?).
*Velm, like Mipsy, has a fancy outfit in the third cut scene we don't see in the game itself.
*Rohane says "We emerge victorious!" regardless of whether there's really a "we" or not.

NeoQuest I is a web based role playing game on Neopets created by Mr. Insane and released on October 15, 2001.

Gameplay
Users are put in the role of the Neoquest Hero, who is called by the name of the users current main Neopet (allowing each Neopet to have their own game). Users control his/her quest to stem back the tide of evil in the world of Neopia 1,000 years ago.
Users are given an overhead view - the size of which varies depending on the light level: in a cave, one has a smaller view than outside - as they move about Neopia via clicking on the compass arrows provided. Each time the user moves in an area infested with monsters, there is a chance at a random fight with one of them. Should the user win, they receive experience and items (if they are allowed them). Experience is collected to gain levels, which make the user stronger and gives them a skill point to use. Level 50 is the max.

Skills
There are many skills a user can use to fight against monsters. They are selected with skill points (to a maximum level of 10), and once spent they cannot be taken back. A skill point in a weaker skill must be spent before it can be spent on a more powerful skill.

Fire Magic

This is the magic of violence and destruction, harnessing the powers of flame to burn your opponents down where they stand. Fire Magic focuses entirely on causing offensive damage.

*Fire Weapons - Normal attacks have an increased chance of doing a single extra fire damage attack each time you hit. A higher skill means a greater chance of gaining the extra hit, and a greater amount of damage done with the hit. If you are wielding a Fire weapon, the chance increases even more.

*Firepower - The Firepower skill causes your successful fire-based attacks to do more damage. This includes ALL fire damage attacks, such as attacks done by the Fire Weapons skill, Fire Ball, weapons with fire-based special powers, and fire-based damage shields. A higher skill means more damage.

*Fire Ball - Every several rounds, you can cast a Fire Ball instead of attacking normally. The higher your skill in Fire Ball, the more damage the Fire Ball does, and the more often you can cast it.

*Wall of Flame - Every time your opponent hits you, they take fire damage from a wall of flames. A higher skill means the wall does more damage.

Ice Magic

This is the magic of freezing and slowing, bringing the forces of frost to bear on your opponents in order to strike them and slow them down. Ice Magic focuses mostly on causing damage, with some disabling ability.

*Ice Weapons - Normal attacks have an increased chance of doing a single extra ice damage attack each time you hit. A higher skill means a greater chance of gaining the extra hit, and a greater amount of damage done with the hit. If you are wielding an Ice weapon, the chance increases even more.

*Heart of Ice - Your attacks have a chance of 'freezing' your opponent, preventing them from using their regular attack that round. Special attacks and abilities are not affected. A higher skill means a greater chance of success.

*Snowball - Every several rounds, you can cast a Snowball instead of attacking. A higher skill means that you can cast the Snowball more often, and it will do more damage.

*Glacier Strike - A Glacier Strike is a charged attack that takes three rounds to execute, but does several times normal damage! If you attack while a Glacier Strike is charging, the Strike is canceled (you can still use special abilities). A higher skill means a greater chance of hitting once the Glacier Strike goes off.

Shock Magic

This is the magic of stunning and disabling, using the power of lightning to disable and confuse your opponents. Shock Magic focuses on stunning and disabling opponents, with some defence.

*Shock Weapons - Normal attacks have an increased chance of stunning your opponent each time you hit. The stun lasts for 1 round. The higher your skill, the greater your chance of stunning your opponent. If you are wielding a Stun weapon, the chance increases even more.

*Disable - Your attacks have an increased chance of reducing your opponent's defensive ability. A higher skill means that your opponent's skill is reduced by a greater amount.

*Fortitude - You become more resistant to heat, cold, and stun. The higher your skill, the more resistance you get.

*Shockwave - Your attacks have a chance of doing a Shockwave, causing your opponent damage and stun. The higher your skill, the greater your chance to hit, the more damage the Shockwave does, and the longer the stun lasts.

Spectral Magic

This is the magic of defence and protection, increasing your ability to avoid taking damage and mitigating the damage that you do take. Spectral Magic focuses on defence, with some counterattack.

*Spectral Weapons - Your defensive ability is increased. If you are wielding a Spectral Weapon, it is increased even more.

*Evasion - You have an increased chance of evading physical attacks entirely.

*Absorption - When used, this skill causes your opponent's next successful melee attack to, instead of damaging you, heal you slightly. The higher your skill, the more damage you heal. If you do not absorb within 5 rounds of using the skill, it wears off and you will take regular damage, so keep track!

*Reflex - This causes your opponent's damage to be reflected back on them. The higher your skill, the higher your chance of success.

Life Magic

This is the magic of regrowth and healing, continuing the cycle of life as you make your way through the world. Life Magic focuses entirely on healing.

*Life Weapons - This skill causes you to have a greater chance of healing as you walk around. The higher your skill, the greater your chance to heal, and the more damage you heal. In addition, healing potions are more effective if you have this skill. If you are wielding a Life weapon, the chance increases even more.

*Field Medic - This skill gives you a chance to regenerate hit points every combat round. The higher your skill, the more points you regenerate.

*Lifesteal - Every time you hit with your regular attack, there is a chance that a fraction of the damage you do is returned to you as health. The higher your skill, the more damage is healed.

*Resurrection - When your health reaches zero, there is a chance you will be returned to life at 50% of your full health instead of dying. The higher your skill, the better the chance of being Resurrected.

Difficuty
NeoQuest I can be played in 3 different difficulty levels, which are unlocked upon beating progressivly harder diffuculties. Normal is the first difficulty level available, and involves the basic gameplay, which ends upon defeating Jahbal. Beating Normal difficulty unlocks Evil, which gives stronger enemies and a second final boss to defeat directly after Jahbal, Mastermind. Beating Evil unlocks Insane, which gives even more difficult enemies and one more extra boss upon the the second one from Evil, Xantan Reborn. If a user should die while playing Insane, they will start the game over from the very beginning, and not retain their level, skills, or items.

Users are rewarded with Neopoints during gameplay for gaining levels and defeating bosses. A total of 30,625 NP can be gained from gaining all levels, and 13,250 NP is gained from all 12 bosses in regular play. And extra 7,500 and 17,500 NP can be received from the extra bosses in Evil and Insane difficulties due to the extra bosses. A trophy is also rewarded for each difficulty defeated.

When NeoQuest I was first released, a contest was held to reward the first 5 users to defeat each difficulty. These users were rewarded special Battledome Equipment and a special second set of tropies.

Although it is not listed under the highscores, Neoquest does in fact have its own version of a highscores table. When in the game clicking on Leader Boards will take you to a list of the first people to beat NeoQuest I, the fastest wins and those with the most wins. New entries into these lists do not gain a user rewards, but it allows them to at least lay claim to a certain task.

Plot summary
It all dates back to the old days of the Neopian Empire - once great and proud, it's cities lived prosperously.

There was magic in the land, and that is real magic - not the faerie one we have today. A group of powerful magicians, called the Circle Of Twelve was once assembled - and for a time it was good. Featuring Jahbal and Xantan, the group was set out to wreak havoc in Neopia some time later, as the group's leader, Jahbal, grew mad with power.

Xantan was exiled by the Circle Of Twelve, with most of his power stripped away. He has, since then, made a cave near Neopia City his home.

Being Mad, Jahbal decided to start a war against all others. Some of Empire's cities fell... others stood up to face Jahbal. So did the city of Kal Panning, and it's leader Faelinn.

Eventually, Jahbal defeated Kal Panning's defenders, and turned the city's population into zombies. The other members of the Circle seen the error of their ways (and who they were allying themselves with), and decided to get rid of Jahbal. Jahbal, however made spyed on the Council members, and decided to flee to the Two Rings Castle.

The group of wizards decided not to hunt Jahbal down, for noone knew what arterfacts of power there were in his castle - and cast a sealing spell on the entire Two Rings Range. Nothing is supposed to make it throught that barrier - and at that, they settled.

Somehow, Jahbal has found a way to break through the barrier. Although he himself could never pass the barrier, his magic reached out to the outside world, and created monsters. The monsters, in turn, were ordered to hunt down The Empire's leaders - disabling the empire. Many fell, far more suffered; the seeds of destruction were sown.

Jahbal continued to create monsters... and soon the Empire collapsed. Only the most well defended cities were still standing.

So the Hero begins his quest of determining why Ancient Neopia has been overrun by monsters, beginning in Neopia City. After hearing from Eleus Batrin about Xantan the Foul, he goes to the Dank Cave to the west and defeats Xantan. After that, he explores to the west to Neopia City, going into a jungle and entering the Jungle Ruins.

In the Jungle Ruins, he meets a teacher in a dungeon, and helps by defeating Kreai who captured the teacher. Then, the NeoQuest Hero goes down lower into th second dungeon, and enters Gors' garden. He meets the teacher's student who is trapped in a classroom by Gors the Mighty. So he defeats Gors, and after hearing more, he goes down to the lowest dungeon level, and defeats Rollay Scaleback.

After all the bosses in the Jungle Ruins are defeated, the NeoQuest Hero moves west, crossing a swamp and entering the Desert of Roo, where he enters the Temple of Roo and goes through to defeat the Archmagus of Roo, and brings to Erick a clouded gem, which is transformed into the coruscating gem.

After that, the NeoQuest Hero goes through the Techo Caves, and enters the Mountain Fortress, where there are 5 bosses, which are the Guardian of Fire, Ice, Shock, Spectral, and Life Magic. After that, he exits the Techo Caves and goes east, and meets Eleus Batrin's former teacher Gali Yoj who tells him where to go next. So the NeoQuest Hero enters Kal Panning, where he defeats Faleinn, who gives him the key to the Two Rings Palace. So eventually, the hero goes through the Two Rings Cave, goes through the levels of Two Rings Palace, and defeats the final boss(es): Jahbal, Mastermind (only on evil & insane mode), and Xantan Reborn (only insane mode).

Time restrictions
Due to the large number of page views and popularity when the game was first available, Neopets' servers ran very slowly for some time. When it first opened, it kept bringing down the Neopets server, which was incapable of handling the game at the time. As a temporary fix, they only allowed users to play in the mornings (Eastern Standard Time), and prevented play during any other time. This ban was lifted on August 24, 2002. Since then, there have been no such restrictions and Neoquest can now be played at any given time during the day.

Trivia
*The avatar NeoQuest - Wise and Powerful can be gained by defeating the Archmagus of Roo and giving the Clouded Gem to Erick.
*There is a section of the Techo Caves which is locked off by a door, and as of September 2009 remains unexplored. The Neopets Team hasn't given any clues how it can be explored.
:*It was once rumoured that the door will become unlocked if you lose to Mastermind in Evil mode. However, this is now proven to be false.

Jhudoras Bluff is a quest game supplied by Jhudora, set in Faerieland. Released on (need date).

Overview
Users can choose to participate in a quest once a day to give Jhudora random items in Neopets. Starting at Level 1, users have 16 minutes to find the item, the rarity of which increases with each new level, before time runs out. If time runs out before the user returns with the proper item, the Level will reset to Level 1, and the user will have to start all over.

Should the user participate in Illusens Glade, Jhudora will become angry with the user and not allow her quests to be completed for the rest of the day. Jhudora's quests are more difficult than Illusen's, and require the user to find rarity 99 items starting level 21. Because of this, items in the later levels are more valuable and expensive than in Illusen's.

List of rewards
Level 1 - Poisonous Lollypop
http://images.neopets.com/items/darkfaerie_poisonpop.gif
The Poisonous Lollypop is a Candy item that, when eaten, will give your Neopet the disease Floppy Tongue. It is often used to "switch" a Neopet's disease, as the cure for floppy tongue is rather cheap compared to other sicknesses.
<br clear="all">

Level 3 - Noxious Nectar
http://images.neopets.com/items/darkfaerie_potion2.gif
Noxious Nectar is a one-use Battle Magic item that deals 2 earth icons and 2 dark icons. Due to its weak power it has a very low price on the shop-wizard.
<br clear="all">

Level 5 - Jhudoras Brush
http://images.neopets.com/items/darkfaerie_brush.gif
Jhudoras Brush is a grooming item that can increase your Neopet's mood.
The Portable Cloud is a Battle Magic item, dealing 5 air and 5 light icons of damage, while defending 5 earth and 5 physical icons. It may also give your opponent the disease watery eyes. At its high price though, it is debatable whether or not it is worth it.

The Wand of the Dark Faerie is a wand used among the Dark Faeries and Jhudora, which is said of that it can only be used by creatures of evil. Because it is virtually impossible and always very expensive to complete a quest at level 50, very few of this item exist, costing well over 400 million Neopoints.

The Wand of the Dark Faerie is one of the ultimate weapons in Neopia, but because of its rarity it is hardly seen in the battledome. For the price of the wand, one could buy a top-level battledome weapon set. It deals 22 dark icons and 1-10 physical icons of attack, for a maximum of 32 icons, and reflects 75% of light damage. The wand will heal 25% Max HP when you have 25% or less of your Max HP when you use the wand. Although this weapon does heal, it does not take up a healing slot, which alone makes it a great weapon to equip.

Users of the weapon, precious few, should be wary of the Ghostkershield, which blocks all dark icons, making the wand into only a 1-10 physical icon weapon. The Ghostkershield is a commonly seen shield at this level of the battledome because defense against dark icons is useful against items like the Sword of Skardsen.
