'''Roo Island''' is a [[Mini-World]] in Neopia ruled by [[King Roo]], a [[Blumaroo]]. It is a small (approximately 50 miles by 100 miles) island situated 30 miles east off the coast of [[Neopia Central]] and connected by a rainbow.

==Blumaroos==
Roo Island is heavily populated with Blumaroos. According to a survey done for an old Neopedia article, 95% of the population of 275,000 inhabitants are Blumaroos (4/5 Blumaroos are born there). Several of the buildings are designed to resemble Blumaroos, particularly the palace of King Roo (who is obsesed wih dice-a-roo), and the [[Colouring Pages]] building is reminiscent of a Blumaroo tail. For those non-Blumaroos, all buildings in the shopping district are shaped like little huts.

Roo Island's [[Altador Cup|Yooyuball]] team consists of also-rans and inexperienced rookies, but received a huge boost when [[Lilo Blumario]], one of the game's top players, decided to take a pay cut and sign up with his hometown club. In what was considered improbable and the biggest story of [[Altador Cup 2006]], Roo Island managed to reach Round 3 of the tournament, being defeated by [[Darigan Citadel]] and placing as number four. After a voting of fans and players that Roo Island had the ugliest jersey. Fans hoped to do even better this past tournament,with a new uniform and the team's signing of [[Maraqua#Colour|Maraquan]] forward [[Jair Tollet]], who was traded to Roo Island for [[Dayla]], the red Lenny (She got injured in the first practice and never played again). This helped Roo Island make it to the final match, losing to [[Darigan Citadel]], and overall placing in second. Third time proved to be the charm, when in [[Altador Cup III|2008]], Roo Island beat Krawk Island in the Altador Cup final, claiming the cup.

==Yooyuball==
Tyrannia's [[Altador Cup|Yooyuball]] team, the "Forsaken Five" was a assembled a few years before 2006 from a group made almost entirely of players whose original teams had given up on them. After a series of trades and waiver wire acquisitions, Tyrannia began to transform its motley bunch of castoffs into a selfless squad of warriors. Driven by a desire to show everyone how wrong they were to write them off, Tyrannia's "Forsaken Five" have gone on to become one of the most successful Yooyuball teams.

After their defeat in the first round playoff by [[Roo Island]] in 2006, many expected Tyrannia to retool their lineup in 2007. Rather than act on this, Tyrannia's managers believed they were simply unlucky, due to the fact it was hard to imagine anyone defeating Roo Island was playing at that time. They kept the tight knit "Forsaken Five" together, believing it would be a horrible mistake to break up one of the best Yooyuball teams in Neopia over a single playoff loss. However, their minds may change after the 2007 season.

Originally, Tyrannia had three maps to its name: the Jungle, the Plateau to the North, and the Volcano even further north. After [[The Tyrannian Invasion]], the volcano map was removed on the August 15, 2001, and the volcano's shops and games moved down to the Plateau. The '''Virtupets Space Station''' - later referred to as Virtupets Orbital Space Station #4 - is an [[Wikipedia:Space station|space station]] brought into Neopia [[wikipedia:orbit|orbit]] by [[Dr. Frank Sloth]] during the course of the [[Arrival of Virtupets]] [[plot]], from which he intended to fire a mutation rare in order to [[Morphing Potion#Transmogrification Potion|transfigure]] [[Neopets]] into his slaves.

After Dr. Sloth's plan was thwarted, the Space Station remained in orbit, abandoned. It was re-inhabited by Neopians where it became much like a futuristic arcade. It became a popular tourist destination, despite the re-emergence of one of Dr. Sloth's old projects, [[Neopet Version 2]], which kidnapped four visitors until the machine was deactivated.

During [[The Return of Dr. Sloth]] plot in 2008, the Virtupets map was revamped and divided up into three levels, accommodating links to many Space Station-related games that had been released since the map was last updated, in 2005.

==Yooyuball==
Virtupets Space Station's [[Altador Cup|Yooyuball]] team is a solid team of role players, though they are unspectacular in play. But due to star forward [[Keetra Deile]], she uses her brilliance and talent to elevate the play of those around her, making the team seem better than one would initially think. During [[Altador Cup 2006]], winning the tournament was viewed highly unlikely by the fans, but they believed an "upset" in the first or second round of the tournament wouldn't be out of the question. With their defeat by the [[Lost Desert]] in Round One, they failed to live up to the hype.

In [[Altador Cup 2007]], the Virtupets is once more led by up-and-coming superstar Keetra Deele, who vowed to take on much more responsibility for the team's scoring needs that year. With Deele picking up the scoring slack and newcomer [[Sela Pretore]] stepping in for underwhelming defender [[Kerib Vickers]], it was hoped the Space Station could rise up and surprise the experts.

Here, he demanded his annual 'protection money' from the then King Koi, who refused to pay (giving reasons such as a 'poor Kelp Harvest'). From the tone of this conversation, it can be presumed that Captain Dread regularly came for this money. The whirlpool is believed to be the result of a curse from this Pirate. The whirlpool, said to be ten miles wide, lasted until the 31st May 2002, where is finally subsided to reveal the Ruins of Maraqua.

Maraqua once housed the Underwater [[Kitchen Quest]]s, later relocated to [[Mystery Island]], and was the sole supplier of [[Utility Fish]], which are now all retired and very expensive. [[TNT]] stated once that they originally planned for Utility Fish to be used as [[NeoHome]] utilities. Maraqua also sold Aquatic [[PetPet]]s (most of which were [[Old Neopets|redesigned]] and are being sold on Mystery Island). The Aquatic Foods Shop also disappeared, retiring the shop items, only to be replaced by [[Kelp]] in New Maraqua, with new foods.

After the whirlpool ruined the city, the Ruins began to be populated again, first by a gigantic [[Slug Monster]], then by a [http://www.neopets.com/water/statue.phtml Mysterious Statue] (believed to be of the [[Darkest Faerie]]), then by a Bubbling Pit (listing all the available Maraqua-coloured Neopets), then by an [[Underwater Fishing]] area. The discovery and open trade with New Maraqua has promoted people re-entering the ruins, and it remains to be seen whether more will be made of this area.

==New Maraqua==
After the whirlpool destroyed the original city, [[King Kelpbeard]] set about building a new, more splendid city, with a strong army to protect it from its enemies. However, information of this was learnt by an armada of pirates, who set out to [[Curse of Maraqua|conquer the nation]].

As part of the [[Curse of Maraqua]] plot, Maraqua was rebuilt with the intention of being stronger than its predecessor so as to withstand any future Pirate attacks. New Maraqua has a standing army lead by [[Swordmaster Talek]], something Old Maraqua didn't appear to have. When [[Captain Scarblade]] learned that there were surviving [[Maraquan]]s, he lead another attack (this time with an army of pirates). They were fought off, however, in the plot.

The Curse of Maraqua plot introduced the mineral [[maractite]], capable of travelling effortlessly through water as though it was in air. Information provided in the CoM plot suggests that supplies of maractite are running thin. According to the ''Maractite Axe'' card (of the [[Neopets TCG]]), maractite slowly decays when exposed to air.

In addition to having shops selling [[Maractite Weaponry|maractite weaponry]] and [[furniture]], Maraqua is also the sole supplier of collectable [[Sea Shells]]. There is a shop selling Maraquan PetPets, although, interestingly, none of the PetPets that were sold in Old Maraqua and now Mystery Island are being sold.

The restaurant [[Kelp]], much like the [[Golden Dubloon]] on [[Krawk Island]], sells highly priced meals, and an avatar is obtainable from it. It is frequently very busy, making entering the restaurant difficult.

==Maraquan Architecture==
Visually, Old Maraqua's structure was very different from New Maraqua's. Old Maraqua was built out of ''transparashield'', and had the look of a futuristic ocean colony. The smooth, bubble-like windows seemed to imply that there was an atmosphere inside the buildings. New Maraqua has a very coral-like appearance, is made out of [[Maractite]], and is open to the oceans.

==Plot Replacements==
In the [[Curse of Maraqua]] plot, several replacements were made to the characters from the original destruction movie. [[Captain Dread]] was replaced with [[Captain Scarblade]], Captain Dread's unnamed sidekick [[Blumaroo]] was replaced with [[Benny the Blade]], [[King Koi]] was replaced with [[King Kelpbeard]], and ''The Revenge'' submarine with a boat of the same name.

Maraqua's [[Altador Cup|Yooyuball]] team could be described as "a house divided," due to the antics of their star forward. [[Elon Hughlis]] is more concerned with his personal accomplishments than actual wins and losses, making him a headache to the team. He looks down on his teammates who aren't as talented as him, and they endure him due to his tremendous ability. Maraqua would love to trade Hughlis to another team, but no other team would give them as equal a player in return.

After getting beaten in the first round of [[Altador Cup 2006]], fans thought Maraqua would cut its losses and get rid of Elon Hughlis. When it became apparent that Hughlis wasn't leaving, they decide to trade other foward, [[Jair Tollet]] for [[Roo Island]]'s [[Dayla]] (injured first practice). Considering Hughlis insisted on scoring most of the team's goals, Maraqua decided having three defenders in the lineup worked best for them, adding hefty defence man [[Oten Runeu]] to their starting unit. As a result, Maraqua now has one of the toughest squads in Neopia to score against.

The '''Lost Desert''' is an [[wikipedia:Arid|arid]] region in [[Neopia]]'s [[wikipedia:Southern Hemisphere|southern hemisphere]]. It was discovered by the rest of Neopia as part of the [[Brucey B and the Lucky Coin]] [[plot]], when [[Brucey B]] managed to travel south through the [[Haunted Woods]]. The Desert is shared by two kingdoms, the second of which was introduced following the [[Lost Desert Plot]].

For the most part, the Lost Desert has an [[Wikipedia:Ancient Egpyt|Ancient Egyptian]] theme, but also shows [[wikipedia:Arabian Peninsula|Arabic]] and [[wikipedia:Persian Empire|ancient Persian]] stylistic elements.

==The Kingdoms in the Lost Desert==
There are two cities in the current Lost Desert. There is the city of Sakhmet, capital of the most prosperous area of the Desert, and the newly rediscovered city of Qasala, which is in ruins but currently being repopulated. Shortly after its discovery, [[Dr. Frank Sloth]] invaded the Lost Desert and attacked Sakhmet, succeeding in taking the [[Sakhmetian]] palace before his forces were beaten back and the magic [[Staff of Alhasutek]] was destroyed.

===Sakhmet===
A city of spires and domes, Sakhmet is constructed predominantly of sandstone. It was occupied by Dr Sloth when he invaded, and he managed to build a space-worthy escape pod into one of the towers. The [[Royal]] Palace of Sakhmet is one of the most stunning structures in the [[Neopian]] World.

The Sakhmetian Royal Family went through a time of turbulence after the Lost Desert was discovered. Following the poisoning of [[King Coltzan III]] in a move to usurp the throne, and the Royal Family held an investigation in which it drafted in the users to analyse the case, with the promised reward of items from the Royal Treasury (priceless Battle Scarabs). After the case was closed, a shrine was erected in the King's honour, in which was placed his Crown, which was said to be inhabited by the ghost of Coltzan. As the shrine was unveiled, however, it emerged that the cunning [[Malkus Vile]], a [[wikipedia:Organized crime|crime lord]], had had the crown stolen - [[The Hunt for the Crown]] was on. Since the crown was returned, the Ghost of Coltzan blesses Neopets who mourn at his obelisk.

The Royal Family of Sakhmet went under another turbulent time, when the [[Princess Amira]] (who had inherited the throne from Coltzan III) received [[Prince Jazan]] IV of Qasala who demanded her hand in marriage based on some document of betrothment he had gathered from somewhere. He believed that marrying a Sakhmetain Princess would restore his lands and people, so when the Princess refused, he stole the City away with dark magic, where it became plagued by his demons. When he fell in love with [[Nabile]] (who could be seen as a princess of thieves, though her mother was Princess Neera so technically she is a real princess, as a matter of fact, she's Princess Amira's cousin), they married and Jazan restored Sakhmet, but his land did not prosper again and in fact the prophecy he fulfilled brought back to life his wicked, power-mad father [[Razul]] who attacked the Lost Desert until he was stopped.

A once-beautiful city that fell on hard times and is now mostly in ruins after being obliterated 200 years ago by a sandstorm. Amongst the ruined buildings lie caches of histories and magic. One of the more notable buildings is the '''Temple of 1,000 Tombs'''.

This once thriving city had a very well respected Royal Family, until Razul cursed his own people, and his own son, Jazan, and laid down a prophecy that would enable him to live again after his death. Both Razul and Jazan controlled considerable sorcery.

They managed beat the [[Virtupets Space Station|Space Station]] in the first round, but were beaten by [[Roo Island]] in Round Two. When the time came to assign blame for the improbable loss, most of the criticism was aimed at defenseman [[Wyett Tuggins]], who was repeatedly put to shame by the brilliant play of Roo Island's [[Fenny Vail]]. As a result, journeyman [[Luvea Trivon]] took his place in the 2007 games.

The Deserted Fairground is a part of the Haunted Woods. It hosts a few shops, as well as many games to play (like [[Test Your Strength]] and the [[Wheel of Misfortune]]), although many of the games are rigged, and almost unplayable.

The Haunted Woods [[Altador Cup|Yooyuball]] team subscribes to the old saying "defence wins championships," and has built its team to shut down forwards and force mistakes which create easy scoring opportunities for them, requires plenty of discipline and determination from the other team to defeat them. The Haunted Woods won the Altador Cup of 2006.

With the retirement of veteran defender [[Chelo Binary]] in 2007, it was questioned whether the defensive unit of the team would be as good as last years. If the playing of newcomer [[Autrey Fulse]] was any indication, Haunted Woods fans with hopes of back-to-back titles wouldn't need to worry. Faerieland is inhabited by the faeries and the place users go to when they need to report a success on a [[Faerie Quest]].

Faerieland is also the home of the [[Hidden Tower]], Fyora's secret stash of collected magical relics, where all the most powerful weapons for the [[Battledome]] are sold.

==Yooyuball==
In 2006, Faerieland's [[Altador Cup|Yooyuball]] team featured one of the most potent offensive attacks in the game, consisting of three forwards, making for one of the biggest stories going into the Altador Cup. Their trio of quick, undersized forwards had a tendency to wear down against larger and more physical opponents, however, and their fans were stunned when they were defeated by such forwards from Mystery Island in Round 1. In 2007, Faerieland decided to switch back to two forwards, adding defender [[Elbin Towse]], who showed vast improvement in practice and then in the regular season the past year.

Brightvale's Yooyuball team is known for being the most crooked line up of cheating and rough players, despite being the land of wisdom and learning. Their reputation of rough playing is even greater than [[Darigan Citadel]] and the [[Haunted Woods]].

After being defeated by the Haunted Woods in Round Two of the 2006 games, Brightvale claimed to have learned the error of their ways for many different reasons (not wanting to shame King Hagan, their tactics were no match for the tournament's better teams, increased popularity means more merchandise sales, etc.). Taking a cue from [["Squeaky" Tressif]], they turned over a new leaf and decided to play fair. While their playing style during the regular season indicated they have cleaned up their act, one cannot help but suspect that they still have a trick or two up their sleeves for the 2007 tournament.

'''Altador''' is an old relic of a city over 1000 years old which resides on the "other side" of [[Neopia]]. It was first explored in [[Neopets: The Darkest Faerie]], and released on the [[Neopet (website)|website]] on March 1, 2006.

==Overview==
Altador lies far from current Neopian society, all the way on the unexplored "other side" of Neopia. It has only recently made contact with the world, due to the fact it literally disappeared from memory over 1000 years ago due to time manipulation (similar to [[Meridell]]). Since its reappearance, it has begun trade with the rest of the Neopia.

The reappearance of Altador was shared with all Neopians on March 1, 2006, when two brave Neopets (believed to be [[Tormund]] and [[Roberta]]) discovered a strange portal in [http://neopets.com/faerieland/faeriecity.phtml Faerie City] (specifically [[Fyora]]'s chambers), which teleports to the Hall of Heroes.

It's currently ruled by 11 [[Gallery of Heroes|heroes]], the head of which is [[King Altador]], from which the city gains its name.

==History of Altador==
Much of the history of Altador is shrouded in mystery, while pieces of it have been revealed in The Darkest Faerie video game and in the [[Altador Plot]].

Altador was originally a peaceful and prosperous land, ruled by 12 protectors, one of which was a [[Dark Faerie]], now only known as [[The Darkest Faerie]]. As the other leaders aged, The Darkest Faerie believed she should be the sole ruler of Altador because of her immortality, and began plotting against the other protectors to take over. [[Jerdana]], the one of the 12, banished the Faerie from Altador when she learned of her plot. Outraged at her banishment, she planned against Altador from afar, and returned wreaking havoc on the city. To protect the city, Jerdana placed it within a spell of slow time. [[Fyora]] then used ''Jerdana's Orb'' to trap The Darkest Faerie in stone, and where she fell to the bottom of the [[Maraqua]]n ocean.

1000 years passed for the rest of the world, while little to no time passed in Altador, and The Darkest Faerie eventually broke free, forcing the remaining 11 (who blended into the world of Neopia) into action to find two heroes to fight against her. [[Tormund]] and [[Roberta]] were separately selected, and eventually came to Altador to discover a way to stop The Darkest Faerie and release Altador from the time spell, both of which were accomplished.

==Yooyuball==
The [[Altador Cup|Yooyuball]] team of Altador boasts an airtight defence, allowing them to usually win with only one goal per game. During the 2006 season, they averaged the least amount of goals allowed per game coming into the Altador Cup, though it is question if they could generate enough scoring to stay in the tournament.

Having lost in Round One of the 2006 tournament, many were lead to believe Altador was out of practice after the thousand year hiatus, which prompted them to work hard during the following year's practices, exhibitions, and regular season matches, making them fighting fit and ready to prove the loss was a fluke. Team Captain [["Trapper" Remis]] cautioned the "so-called experts" that picking against them was madness, and was quoted telling the press, "After all, let's not forget who invented the game. No one's gonna stop us from taking back what's rightfully ours."

'''Darigan Citadel''', which floats in the air thanks to many engines of an unknown mechanism, was once part of its own land of plenty, until King Skarl's knights stole a magical orb that kept the kingdom prosperous. The Citadel came to the [[Meridell]] region as part of the ''[[Champions of Meridell]]'' plot to wage war on King Skarl and his kingdom. During this time, the Citadel was ruled by [[Lord Darigan]], who vanished at the end of the plot. [[Lord Kass]] took over in Lord Darigan's absence and waged a second war against Meridell from above as part of the ''[[Battle for Meridell]]'' plot, during which time it was know as 'Kass Citadel'. Darigan returned and took back his kingdom in the course of the plot.

Attractions include the [[Darigan Toys]] shop and the [[Petpet Battledome]], along with the fortress' many dungeons and the [[Cellblock|games]] that have developed in them.

Darigan's Yooyuball team have few major weaknesses, although they have been criticized in the past for playing too easy a schedule during the regular season, and as a result are unprepared when the tournament comes. To fix this, Darigan Citadel relented and added more matches against a few of the better teams for the 2006 season. Due to this they didn't finish as high in the standings as they normally did, but it gave them the toughness to play in the games which mattered the most (or at least this is what the fans hoped). Their tactic paid off, and they managed to place 2nd in the [[Altador Cup]], ending their reputation as post-season underachievers.

Rather than rest, however, the Citadel's team made an upgrade for the ''Goalkeeper'', replacing the less-than-mobile [[Mungo Lifler]] with promising netminder [[Reshar Collifey]] for the 2007 season. And due to the success of the previous year's tactic, Darigan again faced a string of difficult teams for their regular schedule. Darigan was from the start considered the favourite of the [[Altador Cup 2007|2007 Altador Cup]], maintaining a position at the top of the leader-board for the round robin. In the finals it faced off against [[Roo Island#Yooyuball|Roo Island]]'s team and finally won the Cup on July 9th.
