Has anyone else left the Yooyu ball game end screen (with the two reporters) up too long? They comment on your lack of attention skills.

I'm pasting links instead of putting up my screenies - they're funny.

Heh, yeah. Sometimes a spyder will drop down, too. I've also gotten messages to the effect of "the altador cup only lasts so long" and "you'd better get playing if you want good prizes", etc. They amuse me while I take breaks.

Thanks for the handy screenshots, everyone! For the first time I'm able to score semi-reliably with the Darigan ball - the 2-2 formation does my head in, but I figured out a way to do it with 1-3 by running parallel to the white diagonal line on the pitch (instead of right along it, as there's a defender in the way in my formation). I can't believe it took me so long to figure out that that line is at 45 degrees, which takes all the guesswork and maths out of the Darigan angles!

Inspired by this, I made a couple myself. The first is the basic diagonal kick that forms about four in five of the goals I score:

Note that I found that actually clicking IN the goal - clicking the mesh netting pattern - will not work. The game doesn't register it. You need to click right in front of the goal line instead, or somewhere else on that blue line but within the court.

The second screenie is the passing strategy I use for Snow balls, which people seem to be struggling with still. The positions of the players don't have to be exactly there. When you miss with the basic diagonal kick, just leave the player somewhere near where my little green-ringed Rooligan is, grab the ball with another player and approach from the south or north, then follow this three-step pass. How it works: The ball moves fastest right after it's been kicked, so using two players in this way gives it a boost of speed as well as getting it around the goalie. I hope it makes things clearer.

I run right upto the goalie, double back and shoot it straight in.

I shoot most of my goals from the half way line (either from the far top or the far bottom. This is for the Fire Ball, Mutant ball, and Regular ball. I run past the goalie from top to bottom or bottom to top in front of the goal then abruptly turn for the Faerie Ball, Bomb Ball, Darigan Ball, and Ice ball.

Is it really better? According to this link, any win is a win. http://www.neopets.com/userlookup.phtml?user=biggirl123_6_6

I didn't compete last year though, so I am not sure how the extra points benefit the players in the end.

What exactly are these rankings for?

For your team win, it is your goals minus opposition goals for a total that is added to your team. So 3-0=3 but 9-1=8, which means 8 is a bigger tally for your team.

For personal wins - it is games played and the Ranking levels are basically bragging rights. The shield changes as your level increases. I am assuming that we will get the shield we finish with on our lookup after the Cup is over.

Ah, thanks. That clears it up. It's like knowing what your trophy will be before you win it. Thanks bunches.

1+3 all the way! It is also less stress on my mouse hand to go left to right.

I like to use the 2-2 formation going right to left. I remember trying it differently last year and failing miserably.

Im so mad at things right now too. I purposely set aside about two hours in the evening to really play the game and get some wins. Then I ended up spending all two hours fixing spyware and viruses that my brother somehow got everywhere. I managed to squeeze exactly 2 games in before 12am rolled around.

The stickied tips and hints thread here says, "Every play, even losses, count positively for your team," but that's not true. I guess they'd count for your personal game total (although that is listed as "number of wins" this year, so I'm not sure), but they don't help your team any. The rules page says:

Your contribution to your team's standings depends upon how well you play Yooyuball, with the calculation being based on the goal deficit for each game you play. If, for example, you send a winning score of 4 - 2, you will contribute 2 Yooyuball points to your team's daily score. If you send a winning score of 8 - 0, you will contribute 8 Yooyuball points to your team's daily score. Draws and losing scores are counted as zero Yooyuball points, so you definitely want to try to win.

Basically, you want to get as many goals as possible and let your opponents get as few as possible, because if you win 6-4, that's just as bad as winning 2-0. I think it worked differently last year, with effort counting for something, but this year you NEED to win to help your team.

But this disagrees with what one of the Editorials said while PPT was down. The question was whether 'freeloaders' - people who join a team but never play - pull down their team's average. The answer was that they do not, with TNT saying this is 'completely untrue', and that it is not possible to harm your team, only help it. I don't see how that can possibly be true if the scores are being weighted to team membership as we are told they are. My best guess is that they misread the question. I submitted a question of my own to the Editorial about this, but it wasn't answered.

It's rank bragging time... I hit Rank 4 today  though I'm sure you beat me, lately I haven't played a lot at all.
